I read that this filter was better than UV for protecting lens on digital camera. Photos look great so far. A little expensive but I prefer haing the added lens protection.

No issues that have diminished image quality. Factory case is made of hard plastic that can crack easier then pliable type cases. Cheap insurance for my lenses.

I bought this filter chiefly to protect the lens surface of my fairly expensive Zeiss 100mm, f/2 lens. It does not seem to adversely affect the quality of the images when I've used this lens. I've encountered no disadvantages to using this filter.

I've been using this filter on my 16-35mm II canon lens to photograph tons of professional interior architecture where I am consistently getting poor results with this filter attached. Because of the assignment that I being required to shoot I am having to shoot into rooms with bright lights on the ceilings and in the backgrounds where I am getting all kinds of added halos, rainbow colors, and added glare. I take the filter off and it's much better controlled by the lens. I guess I should have sprung for the higher dollar B&W true multi coated filters. My two filters I bought 82mm and 72mm said in their description that they had a multi coatings on them where they have the designation "MC" on the side but obviously not enough or not the right type. Highly disappointed!!!

I purchased this filter when the equivalent Nikon filter was sold out. I've been very pleased with its price and performance.

Currently using it to protect the kit lens of a Canon EOS 5D MkII. Works very well. I also had this filter on a SONY DSC-R1 which I dropped onto concrete from about 4 feet high. The Hoya protective filter shattered, but the SONY lens underneath was OK. It is very clear, and although I keep getting told not to stack filters, if you are in a hurry, it does take another filter ontop of it very well in terms of the threads.

Maybe it is a bit expensive but it replaced a cheaper brand and the sharpness difference is incredible - it turned out to be a good investment. I would never have thought a flat bit of glass could effect sharpness so much.[...]

I've tried the cheaper brands and the fit and finish just don't stand up to Hoya. I have Hoya on all my L series Canon lenses.

A possible issue: There really is no storage case supplied, just a reasonably well constructed store display that is larger then necessary and intended to hang on a peg. This could be OK for home or studio storage; definitely not the best situation for field work though. Were this one of the many correction filters, a different storage system would be needed, but, as this filter is just a protector, it should always be installed on the protectee. Right?

Works like a charm on my Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8. Very good alternate to Nikon NC-series filters. I'll be considering more Hoya in the future.

Very useful to keep away dust, oil or any other substance that may affect the performance of your precious glass.

One of the best filter I have seen, love the optics, very thin mount, very clear glass, multi-coating, Almite black frame, knurling frame. The finish on these babies is excellent, Can't say enough about them as I bought two for my 70-200mm lens and the new 16-35mm II series glass. Save you money and buy these instead of the 120 plus dollar apiece B&W MRC UV filters unless you just want to spend the money. [$] they are a steal compared to the other great filters.

Usually when I order something online where I don't get to hold it and inspect it before buying it, it usually turns out to be a disappointment once it arrives in the mail but not this one. I was very happy once I pulled it from it's package and saw the quality. Just touching it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Top notch build like the slim design (16mm wide full frame) which will still hold a lens cap, the finish which they call the black almite frame, awesome, and the MC coating which can clearly be seen when held next to a non-multi coated filter. I bought two, one for my 70-200mm and my 16-35mm II and it cost me [$] total. Originally I was looking at the B&W UV-multi coated thin mount filter and one regular UV-MC filter for general lens protection but I would have spent 296 dollars to do it. That’s a lot of money for general purpose filters and I'm not wealthy. The glass looks to be exceptionally clear where It's almost like its not there. Highly recommend. I will still end up going with the B+W 82mm MRC Slim Circular Polarizer Filter in the future as Hoya HMC coating is hard to clean so there you go.

I dropped my camera and the protective filter shattered - probably due to side impact on the filter rather than a direct hit to the glass surface. So, this HOYA filter is the replacement. It looks to be high quality and should do the job well. Main message is, get this filter or something similar to protect your lens!

The Hoya Pro1 filter is excellent quality and construction. It is somewhat on the pricy side but you get exactly what you pay for. I will be purchasing additional filters, such as a circular polarizer, and rest assured they will be Hoya.

The Ultimate in Clear Filters. It will not affect the color balance or performance of your lenses the slightest. However, constant use will protect your valued lenses from expensive front element damage which could be caused by dirt, knocks or scratches
