Questions & Answers

Shopper : does this hold a lens cap?CHRIS K : Yes no problem at allMARK S : Yes. No problem.IVAN T : If you're referring to a Nikon pinch lens cap, the answer is yes.FRED B : You should be able to put your lens cap over it. The outside of the ring should be the same as the outside of your lens.MARK U : AbsolutelyDANIEL S : The end of the filter is threaded, so it hold's a polarizing filter. It also holds a Nikon lens cap.STEVE G : Yes, it holds a lens cap and you can use a hood as well.KARL B : Yes.JEFF G : Yes, my Nikon factory lens cap works fine with this.JONATHAN H : Yep! The hold doesn't seem quite as strong, but especially if you're not the sort who carelessly carries their camera around in a jumbled bag full of non-photography stuff, that won't be a problem. It'll certainly be fine around your neck or in a case.ROBERT M : Holds my Canon lens cap just fine.MARIO M : Yes, it should. The filter has the same female thread as your lens on it's outer side. This allows for threading another filter on or for engaging the lens cap just like your lens does.HEATHER K : YupFRANK C : I used this on a Nikon brand lens and it does hold the standard pinch style cap that comes with the lens.
Shopper : Is this the filter to use to photograph the solar ecliips?MARK S : no- UV filters have almost no effect on your image, they are used primarily for protecting your lens. KARL B : No, it blocks UV only, not visible light. Therefore, you cannot use it to view a solar eclipse. You would need a ND-16 or ND-32 filter for that.MICHAEL S : Absolutely not! The primary use of this filter is simply to protect the lens from scratches and to provide very minor improvement in clarity in certain haze/UV lighting. For solar photography you need a very special filter specifically designed for and advertised for this use.HEATHER K : Nope, not that kind of filter. Many photographers and cinematographers today also use UV filters as a protection against lens damage. In the event that a camera is dropped, it is much easier and faster to replace the cheap UV filter than an expensive lens.MARIO M : Absolutely not. It takes a very dark Neutral Density filter so the exposure is within the usual normal limits for the film or sensor. Look that up because I don't know how dark the ND filter needs to be. I am guessing it's about four f/stops in density.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?MARIO M : Good price/quality ballanceJAMES M : I like the brandWILLIAM R : To protect the glass in my Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II

neutral and glare free

keep on camera at all times to protect lens-my old one (not a Hoya) was shattered when I fell on the ice, but the camera was unharmed Hoya uses optical glass, is truly neutral and this type has multipal coatings to reduce glare

UV super multi coated filter

A bit expensive, but it was a recommended lens, so I wanted it. Had a bit of a hard time finding one, but was pleased to find that Adorama carried it.

Forgot it was there!

Put it on, and I no longer worry about ruining my expensive lens. Hasn't effected image quality at all. Just what I wanted.

Best bang for the buck.

I bought this after reading other reviews. This lens filter offers much higher quality than the off brand I was using without the high price. The difference is clear........

What's not to like?

Pretty much, all I want this filter to do is protect the lens and not do anything bad to the image. It does this admirably. The optics are such that I do not know the filter is there. Well built and mounts so firmly that it seems like part of the lens.

Purchased for the 18-200mm Nikon, its a great fit. Did drop it once onto cement from 4 feet, not a scratch.

Excellent workmanship

I had been using a Promaster UV filter for my HD video camera, and I was disappointed with the quality of the glass. I couldn't get it to be clear...all my cleaning efforts simply resulted in a smear which resulted in lens flares and bright lights ruining the image. So far, the Hoya is far superior and provides a image nearly as flawless as the bare lens while protecting the camera against damage and UV interference.

•Absorbs the ultraviolet rays which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct.
•A muliti-purpose fine-weather filter for color as well as black and white films.
