Great camera

dont use 17-85 at 17mm.To get great photos go higher than 17mm.no problems at 85mm though.

Excellent kit. No need to upgrade body.

The 17-85mm equivalence of a 28-to-140mm lens (in 35mm terms) is good and useful for most of my photos, however I also use the 60mm f/2.8 macro lens for close-up and low light photography and a 70-200mm or 70-300mm focal length lens for longer telephoto applications. I find multiple lenses necessary to meet my photography needs.

Worth the money

I've owned this camera for approx. nineteen months. Total images exceed 10,500. I'm a bit of a cheapskate, and spending the money was hard. From the enjoyment I get, I'd do it again. (and plan to when a 60D comes out)

Best slr on the market per dollar spent

I did a ton of research befor I bought this and Im glad I did the leg work. Here was my logic. I origionally wanted the nikon d90 but after my research and trying this out in the store, they really just arn't in the same class. I thought about going up to the 50d but it just doesn't seem like you get much for the extra money. At least not features that would be that important to me. The extra image data required the new processor but the image quality looked to be the same for a "normal" size print. The battery lasted longer on the 40d too since the lcd is a lesser quality but there again, that wasn't a critical element for me. The 17-85 is lens is PERFECT. That was a good choice for an all round lens. Its a bigger body camera but the feel is sheer quality. I couldn't be more pleased. My friend baught the Nikon at the same time and Im still happyer with my buy and the price was cheeper with adorama than what he got his for at the local shop.

Great Package Deal

The speed to get images in focus is exceptionally fast and the images are sharp. Looking forward to testing out the capabilities at future sporting events. Great value in this package deal.

Perfect!

I love this camera! Made in Japan quality. Most other brands seem to be made in China. Great lenses.

Great Combo

The opening procedure of the built-in flash is a little loud. When not using the flash in fairly low light conditions the 40d performs significantly worse than the Rebel XTi. Though this package performs great in sports photography. Last week I have been using it on a ski trip to take pictures of my friends while going down the mountain myself. Every picture was well focused. I was even able to get good portrait like pictures while skiing down the mountain.

A Winner

I use the camera for sports events (cross country, indoor and outdoor track), business social and meeting events (for posting at organization's web site and in a magazine), real-estate and landscaping promotions, travel and family occasions. The camera is an excellent value, solid performer and produces great images. What more could one want? Maybe a 200mm lens in a few months.

So far SO good.

This camera has not revealed anything about itself, to me, that I dislike. The thumb wheel is wonderful. The rapid fire is wonderful. The images that it yields are wonderful. The LCD is wonderful. I marked the 'cons' box for heavy. It's not particularly heavy- but it is a DSLR. My ex has a 400d, and that camera was also very good. It suited her smaller hands. The 40d is perfect for me.

Amazing Camera

I almost purchased a Nikon! I have broken-away. I'm sailing in new waters. This camera is truly fantastic. It fits like a glove. The operation of this camera is so well laid-out - it's a joy. I can't say enough about the 17-80mm USM IS zoom. Sharpness of a prime with the flexibility of a zoom. I recommend a 266x CF, as this baby can handle it. I have added the following lenses in the past two weeks: 50mm 1.8; 60mm macro; 55-200mm IS. Have fun with the best camera on the market for pros and hobbyists under [$] with kit lens.[...]

17-85mm Kit. Superb!

A complex camera that's a joy to use. Ergonomics are really excellent. Menus are easily accessible and easy to understand. Optics for the 17-85mm are better than expected. Best camera under $1500. Period.
