I bought this , mailed it back after 5 days. Did not work proper , shutter , menu ect. I love the Canon lens I bought from them which was very expensive / used item so disappointed that they would sell a camera that does not work

Takes a Great shot!

Casual use, wanted more durable EOS than the Rebel series. Always wanted a 40D, but went ahead and went with the more megapixels. Great camera with a little different menu system to learn.

Quality Buy

So far I'm impressed with the 50D. It has performed well the few times that I have used it since my purchase. I've only done landscapes but with my 50mm I'm sure portraits will turn out great. No real complaints.

Solid work horse camera.

I use this mostly for sports. I bought it because it has an APS-C sensor and the 1.6 crop factor and the burst mode are better than my 5D mark I for sports. I chose it over many of the newer models because it shares batteries with 5D mark I and because it feels more solid in my hand than some of the newer APS-C canon DSLR's have used. Image quality is outstanding, not as good as the a one series I use, but it is more than good enough.

Very good used camera

We bought this camera used for one of our newspaper offices. We already own two 50Ds. This was rated an E (or E-) on the used scale, but when we got it it was in excellent shape. Much less wear than the 50D in my office which was purchased brand new a few years ago. I would recommend used equipment from Adorama.

PERFECT FOR MY NEEDS

I shoot for another person on the weekends and they use the EOS Mark 2 for there stuff ,,,i was going to purches one but the price between that camera and the 50 D ,,well just a bit different if you have looked around ,,anyway i reviewed alot of cameras and everything kept leading me back to this one,,,,Great HI and LOW ISO,,Fast Shutter Speeds,,CF not SD ,,,I have to use CF for my work,,and many other options that seem to be a little more geared for the pro then just the every now and then photographer.

Just not good enough focus

I am a street editorial photographer I like the nice controls and the easy to use layout. BUT .... I have this body and the premium 70-200 EF L 2.8 lens, and also the EF 24 -105 and 24-702.8 EF L , etc ...eg the best glass canon makes, and I am so extremely disappointed with the lack of sharpness and the lack of dead on focus. So many of my images are just "off", Indeed I have sent the body and the lenses back twice and all canon says is adjust and clean.. etc. On the last return, I got back MY camera body and another persons sample dis of images and guess what, he was having the same problem that I had ... a photo of say a college yearbook shot ( girl sitting on bale of hay) and shot # 1 would be tack sharp and shot #2 would be out of focus. I switched to Nikon and do not have this problem any more. I do not hink it is the lens as ALL of them have this problem. I think it is the body.

Great camera

I actually got this camera to use for school photography but I realized I needed a camera with a full range zoom lens ready to go when one of my lenses failed on a wedding. I got this camera and a full range zoom lens as a backup so that it will be ready if anything goes wrong on a wedding or other shoot.

Worth the bucks

Good camera for those semi-serious about photography but can't afford the full-frame.

EXCELLENT camera w/ significant upgrades

As a replacemnt for earlier models, it provides some much appreciated upgrades in several areas. And, in retrospect, since my equipment needs are ONLY for stills, I don't have to burden myself w/ the movie mode of the 5D Mk II, 7D, or 60D. One other nice feature is that it us more closely aligned w/ previous models than the 60D, so accessories like the Battery Grip that fit the 30D & 40D are compatible w/ this body. The 60D uses a new style Grip attachment. Finally, the 50D is a magnesium frame, so IF you're using the camera in a serious way, that may also be a factor.

Good upgrade from the Rebel

I bought this as an inexpensive upgrade from my Rebel. I thought about buying the 60D or the 7D, but decided to buy this one since it is much cheaper compared to either one of those, and it has a more high end feel compared the plastic body of the 60D. I was not dissapointed. Picture quality is very good compared to the Rebel, especially in low light situations such as indoors. Very pleased with my purchase. The only negative for me was that this camera only takes Compact Flash cards, which are expensive compared to the SD cards (which I already had plenty of from the Rebel)

Fine Camera

This camera is very fun and easy to use. Fits my hands better than the Rebel series does. I also own a Canon 7D and like the 50D equally. The 15M vs 18M is a non issue.

YES AND YES

This camera is perfect for taking nature photos -We had bought this camera and loved it so much we now have two... It is wonderful to take pictures of birds flying, etc. and listen to the zip of the shutter......with this camera you do not miss any of the action... We travel quite a bit filming birds, bear, elk and nature--- I would recommend this camera any day of the week... We have always had Canon and love all the improvements. thank you.

I highly recommend this camera

I recently purchased this Camera as an upgrade from my Canon Rebel Xti. I've shot over 800 frames and I'm blown away by the performance of this camera. The 6.5 frames per second is awesome. I do alot of wildlife photography and it really helps catching the action. The high iso is fantastic with very low noise. The shutter is pretty quiet and the 3" lcd screen is a pleasure to view. All in all a fantastic camera and you can't beat the price. I want another one.

Not a great camera for indoors

If you shoot a lot indooors, look elsewhere. Poor high iso performer, but fantastic in every other way. Unfortunately, a lot of my shooting is inside.

Next logical step after the Rebel

For those who will use a video camera to shoot video and a DSLR for pictures this is the next move up from the Rebel line. For the $$ it is a great value. I give this 5 stars - no issues!!

Great body for sports!

I use this body mainly to shoot figure skating, and I have been so happy with it! I upgraded from a 20D. I often have to deal with poor lighting when I shoot small competitions in local rinks, and this camera has made such a difference. I can shoot up to ISO 2000 without much loss in quality. Sure, the 1D Mark III (or the new IV) would be even better, but since I'm not a full-time pro, this is the one that fit into my budget.

Well worth the money

This is my first DSLR and I haven't had it that long but I wanted something that I could use like my 35mm film cameras and this looks like it's going to fit the bill - and then some. Probably more bells and whistles than I'll really need. The camera has a nice comfortable feel to it and the controls are conveiently placed. Image quality is great, even with the 18-135mm kit lens. So far - no complaints. It's a joy to use.

I love the 50D

By srhicks

I bought the 50d a couple of months ago(an upgrade from my Rebel XT)and I'm glad that I did. I mainly do landscape and wildlife photography and have found the 50D to perform very well. The images are first rate(as long as I do my part)and the colors really pop. The burst rate is good when photographing flying birds or running animals but the camera shutter is rather loud. In the live view mode, it is virtually silent, but I don't use this very much when photographing wild- life. The con...

Perfect upgrade

By JAMES T.

My wife and I each upgraded from the Canon 20D to the 50D. We shoot a lot of motorcycle racing events and needed higher pixel counts so as to be able to crop more aggressively. The 50D has met out expectations. We like the brighter LCD which allows for better viewing in sunlight. I have read other reviews and some indicated more noise. We have not had this problem.

Canon's EOS 50D bridges the gap between the novice and the seasoned pro with a perfect combination of high-speed and quality. It features an APS-C sized 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor for tremendous images, new DIGIC 4 Image Processor for fine detail and superior color reproduction and improved ISO capabilities up to 12800 for uncompromised shooting even in the dimmest situations.

It features a refined 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots) monitor, supercharged Live View Function with Face Detection Live mode, plus a number of new automatic Image Correction settings and HDMI output for viewing images on an HDTV.

Canon EOS 50D DSLR Camera Body, 15.1MP, Black Features

  • DIGIC 4 Image Processor: The DIGIC 4 Image Processor offers finer details and even more natural color reproduction, compared with the previous DIGIC III Image Processor. It uses advanced signal processing technologies, which provides even faster operations, including write times to UDMA cards
  • 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) with multiple coatings for improved viewing and smudge-resistant protection
  • The EOS 50D features a bright, high resolution, 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor with 920,000 (dots/VGA) pixels and a broad viewing angle of 160° horizontally and vertically
  • The EOS 50D features Canon's most advanced Live View shooting thanks to the number of focusing modes available including Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection Live mode
  • 9 cross-type high-precision sensors for accurate target subject acquisition and diagonal center cross-type AF point with f/2.8 and faster lenses
  • The EOS 50D has a high-precision 9-point wide area AF that uses cross-type points at f-stops of f/5.6 or faster, enabling the camera to focus faster, more accurately and in difficult lighting situations
  • New Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction setting to automatically even the brightness across the image
  • Canon's exclusive Lens Peripheral Illumination setting takes into account any light falloff in the corners of the frame and corrects it, making for a perfectly exposed image
  • The EOS 50D's Self Cleaning Sensor Unit eliminates stray dust that enters the camera when changing a lens or when out in the field
  • Dust that may still remain on the front of the sensor can also be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional (DPP) Version 3.3 or later software. A simple test shot of a plain, white object can be taken, using a menu setting
  • Creative Auto goes a step beyond full auto with on screen setting display: The EOS 50D has a new Creative Auto mode and a quick control screen that helps novice users narrow the gap between fully automatic and manual control

  • The EOS 50D includes a new HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) output device that enables high definition display of your photographs on any HDTV with HDMI ports

  • The EOS 50D features the acclaimed E-TTL II flash metering system. With any of the flashes in the EX Speedlite line, E-TTL II provides reliable flash output whether shooting fill-in flash pictures in sunlight, or using flash in total darkness
