Questions & Answers

Shopper : can the grip be used with a tripod?STEVEN C : Hi, Yes, the grip can be attached to a tripod. It's well made and fits tight.ROBERT A : YesSTAN F : Absolutely. I bought an L bracket for an Arca Swiss type mount. It'll work for both Landscape and portrait mounting. I 'm sure there are also Manfrotto mounts. too. Both type of mounts screw onto the bottom of the battery gripJEFFREY L : Yes it can.CAM M : Yes.STEVEN V : Yes, it has a tripod socket on the bottom of it.GLENN W : Yes. There is a tripod mount at the base of the grip that can be used for a tripod or other accessories. I have an L-bracket attached to mine. Since I use this body for wildlife, and usually with very large and heavy lenses, I attach to my tripod via the lens rather than the body. But for light lenses, you can surely attach to a tripod via the battery grip.DON S : Yes.
Gary M : I recently returned my 2nd BG-E13 grip by another manufacturer because the twist lock for the battery compartment did not lock securely, just kind of flapped in the breeze. I was worried that it would open and fall out when I wasn't looking. Does the lock on the Canon version lock securely?ELENZER D : I also tried some aftermarket copies but ended up returning it. I decided to get the Canon grip and it is much much better and to answer your concern, the locking tab even though made of high quality plastic holds the batteries securely and not much wobble compared with the imitations.KURT B : Yes... it does lock very nice. Have had no problems at all. The quality of the grip is very nice. I could recommend this to a friend.CARL R : Yes, It's always better to buy Cannon acessories. I love the extra battery life that this grip offers. I can shoot a whole wedding without charging batteries.LESTER T : The battery compartment locks securely. No problems when using the canon BGE13MARLON MCNEILL S : It has been my experience that all of the grips with screw locks back out at some point or the other (not to the degree it is flapping loose). Normally, you can feel when they began to separate from each other and just tighten it back up. Another accessory you may want to invest is the grip support. It offers two benefits, the first it will keep both, camera and grip together with each other and the other, it's an excellent hand support for extended hours or long shootings. As in most situations with photography equipment you get what you pay for... rarely have I seen third products out perform the original manufacture.JACK Y : I haven't had any problems with my Canon battery grip on my 6D. It's worked exactly as I expected, and locks securely.WARREN W : I noticed the same problem and find that one needs to mnake sure that the battery tray is securely inserted, flanges mate up, the knob is twisted into lock position and make sure that the flip tab on the twist lock is in the down position. In any event I'd check it often but have not experienced it falling open during use as I have it installed for sort of permanent use on the 6D.JENNIFER S : I always have mine on and every once in a while I need to tighten it but never ever worry about it falling off! I have read of complaints about generic brands so I always stick with canon! Good luck. JUSTIN W : It sure does - it locks securely and I never have to worry. I have tried third-party grips before and will only buy Canon from this point forward. The way I look at it, it's worth it to buy the Canon version since it is interfacing with the electronics where the battery connects. Just like with anything gear-wise: buy it right the first time, never have to buy again. Best of luck!GRETA S : Hi there, I just bought my 6D and the battery grip. It secures perfectly and stays tucked in. I am so pleased with the longer battery life I have while shooting!!! Hope that helps!RONALD L : I found the lock to the battery compartment to be secure and haven't had any problems with it coming loose. I'll add the caveat that I haven't used the grip extensively (as I've only had it a short while), but I have been pleased with its features and how its built.LAWRENCE W : I have been using Canon battery grips since the 20D. The BG-13 grip is the most improved of all that I have tried. Well made and you won't have to worry about the lock not closing securely. I highly recommend this grip.THUAN B : Yes it does appear to lock securely. Admittedly I have not been using it every day, but for the weeks I did there had never been an occasion when the lock would turned insecurely.JACK O : Yes it does. If you go the expense to buy a Canon Camera you should buy the Canon Battery grip, not an off brand grip. you can void the warranty just like if you buy off brand batteries.JOEL H : Hello, I take a lot of photographs outdoors in rough condition and I can confirm the twist lock for the BG-E13 battery compartment locks securely.CHAD M : I have taken mine through some rough travels and harsh environments and have not had any issues.
Shopper : is this grip compatible with 5d mark II?MARLON MCNEILL S : Unfortunately, I have not owned a 5D. Canon's tech support should be addressed directly with this question. They are the ones whom are best informed when it comes to what equipment is interchangeable.BOB F : No, this item is for the 6D only. JACK Y : Sorry, I got this for a Canon 6D and it works great for that. I do not know if it would work on a 5D Mark II.LAWRENCE W : I doubt if this grip is compatible with the 5D Mk II. Canon USA would know the answer to this or probably Adorama, I think they still have some Mark II bodies for sale.ROBERT A : Not compatible THUAN B : I don't think so. The BG-E6 is.ELENZER D : No. Use BG-E6 modelELENZER D : NoTHUAN B : Not having a 5Dmk2, I am not sure. Having spent a minute in Amazon, I doubt it. 6D uses BG-E13, whereas 5Dmk2 BG-E6.

Get a Grip

I bought this grip and installed it on my 6D and now I wish I would have bought this sooner. Portraits are much simpler to shoot with the easy to locate shutter release button. I would recommend this to a friend.

Great for Portrait shooting and long jobs

I have a tendency to shoot in portrait orientation a lot, so a good grip is a must for me ,and you can't beat the quality and reliability of this Canon grip. Additionally, I can get through an entire wedding without having to change out my batteries and potentially miss shots because this grip allows for double your normal battery capacity.

best option

This is the best option for several reasons. It is the best quality. I looked at a number of cheaper 3rd party alternatives and none of them meet the quality standards of Canon. Some come close, but not close enough and the ones that come close are also more expensive, which makes the incentive to go 3rd party less attractive and really not worth it. The other thing is warranty. if the camera and the grip are both Canon, only Canon can be blamed if something goes wrong with one or the other. If the grip is 3d party and something goes wrong, they might start blaming each other and you might get caught in the middle. You don't want that.

You get the quality for what you pay for

I love using battery grips which is particularly useful on potraitures. It is also very useful if you are using a heavy zoom such as my Canon 70-200 f2,8 IS II. I originally purchased non-canon grip taking chances because it has some pretty good reviews. I returned it the same day due to quality concern. I should have purcased the Canon Battery Grip in the first place.

Great Product

Great for portrait photography, gives good balance to my heavier lenses so that my camera feels more stable. Tad bit on the heavy side over a longer period of time and adds some bulk, but that extra shutter release is great. Takes some getting use to the extra button and looking through the view finder what seems to be lower than before without the battery grip.

Feels like the 6D

This grip is a great accessory and much needed for the 6D when you use wifi or GPS. I would give it 5 stars, but it just feels a bit plasticky... Much like the 6D does. Match? Yes. Perfect. Battery trays are nice, functions good, fits great and does the job far better than a knock off brand in my opinion. Just a little less chunky feel than the grips I have for the 20D and the 7D...

Perfect!

The grip is great! Very well built design, solid, the grip material on the battery grip is great. Would definitely recommend to anyone else that needs a battery grip. In the past I bought the cheaper versions, but wanted something more durable and went with the EOM grip.

Works how you'd expect it to

Feels like an extension of the 6D. It is built very solidly and makes the camera much more comfortable to hold when shooting portraits. For heavier lenses, the grip's weight helps to balance out the camera.
