Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is this unit a ORIGINAL Canon product? Please advise MarioKARL P : Yes.NORMA P : Yes the BG-E9 battery grip is an original Canon product. NormaCAROL P : yes. You can buy other brands but have used the Canon in the past and I felt more comfortable using it.DYLAN K : The product that I received came in the official Canon packaging and both fit and work perfect. I would say that yes this is a Canon original product.
Shopper : Do you have to take the grip off the camera to replace the battery in the camera?GARY R : No, the grip does not have to be removed. there is a battery holder assembly that sides out the side, very easy too change. Another nice feature is that it can hold 2 batteries, the camera runs off 1 until power level depletes then automactically switches to second battery. I had battery grips on my film cameras (A2 and Elan IIe). The BG-E9 is a far supior design. Hope this helps. I would highly recomment this product.DARRYL A : the batteries are easily changed with the grip attached to the camers. The battery grip has prove usefull in using the camera. The extension of the body provides a useful grip area particularily with a longer lens, not to mention additional battery life with flash use and stabilized lenses.LELAND A : Dear Shopper; pardon my delay in answering your question re: the BG-E9 Battery Grip for the CANON EOS 60D Camera. I was trying to find out IF there was an internal battery that powers it and keeps certain settings when the external batterries are removed. It does not. So, the short answer to your question is that you DO NOT need to remove the grip to change/charge the batteries. The grip has a locking slide-out tray that holds all of the batteries, and it is easily removed for changing/charging.ANDREW M : No, With the grip attached there is no battery inside the camera. There is a removable tray inside the grip which holds two LP-E6 batteries. The grip also comes with a tray which will hold 6 AA batteriesTHOMAS M : HI Yes - since the electrical contact part of the grip actually inserts into the battery compartment of the camera, you have to remove the grip in order to insert a single LiON battery into the battery compartment inside the camera. This is useful if you want to make the camera smaller / lighter, but you lose the extra 'grip' and the option to run the camera on two batteries instead of one. You do not however have to take the grip off to replace / recharge the batteries in the grip. The batteries in the grip pop in to a cartridge that slides in and out of the grip. Hope that helps!CAMERON H : Nope, looking at the image theres a battery magazine insert on the bottom right of the grip you can slide in and out with ease. This thing is perfect and well worth it.STEVEN H : No. There's a latch that opens a sliding tray on the side. It's very quick to change the battery. Kind of like an ammo clip on a pistol. You can use one or two batteries in it. I use these on all my camera's for a professional job that shoots about 1000+ images a day, 7 days a week and I have not had one go down yet.LAWRENCE F : No you do not, there is a door on the side of the battery grip and you open that up and both batteries are stored in the sliding holder. The battery cover comes off of the camera is snaps off, but must be stored. Then the upright connector inserts into the camera battery holder. This is a much needed addition to the camera as you have twice the battery power and I doubt if you would ever have to recharge the batteries in one day no matter what you did. Movies and pictures will not drain both batteries. I never bought a battery that was not a Canon battery, the generic batteries just do not last very well at all. The extra weight is really only the extra battery the battery grip weighs nothing. It has several buttons on the battery grip so that you can access them instead of trying to find the buttons on the camera. I paid full price as I bought the 60 D right after the release and I paid well over $250 I believe that the Canon battery grip is under $150 now. A very good addtion to the camera and it causes no problems only serves the camera better.JOSH W : No a compartment opens on the side to replace batteriesCAROL P : No the battery slides in the side of the grip. You can use 2 batteries in the grip or you can use the attachment which allows you to use 4 AA batteries with the grip. Love this item. Allows you to grip the camera easier. Gotta have item!!ADRIANE H : No. The vertical piece on the grip goes into the battery slot of the actual camera. Then both batteries are housed in the grip. There is a "tray" that slides out (from the right on this photo) that is released by turning a dial. You change the batteries in and out of the tray and then slide it back in. The grip stays on the camera body the entire time. It really is a wonderful tool to have. I think it more than doubles the longevity of you batteries. It does make the camera too large for some standard cases though. It also is very heavy and causes some neck & arm strain on long shoots/hikes. Just FYI.RONNIE Y : The grip replaces the battery. The vertical shaft you see on the grip goes where the single battery does. The camera battery door is stored on the grip shaft during times the grip is installed. The grip itself holds two canon batteries or several aa's in the tray. No, you do not have to remove the grip to replace the batteries in the grip while it is installed. There are two trays which can be used separately. One holds two canon batteries. One hold aa batteries. NICK D : No, you do not have to take the grip off the camera to replace the battery. In fact the batteries (you can have one or two installed in the grip) fit inside the grip and not the camera when you have the grip on the camera. One can easily access the batteries while the grip is on the camera via a cartridge the opens on the side. Very easy to add, replace or remove batteries this way. HTH.
todd h : hello, can battery grip for t2i be used on a tripod?JOON P : Yes, but with the added weight, you'll need a sturdy tripod and tripod head.WILLIAM R : Yes it can.DOUGLAS B : Yes. It holds strong. No problems for my 60D on a Bogen ball head anyways.GARRY R : yes, it has a tripod built inJESS N : The grip for the 60D can be used. However, I don't believe that the grip for the 60D will work with the t2i.JEFF R : Yes, all the battery grips have the standard size tripod threaded hole on the bottom.STEVE B : TODD - YES I HAVE USED IT SEVERAL TIMES ON A TRIPOD AND MONO PODJODAKILA G : The Canon BG-E9 Battery grip can be used on a tripod. It has a mounting screw on it, that replaces the original mounting screw that is used to connect the grip.MATTHEW P : Todd, the battery grip on both the t2i & 60D both have 1/4" 20 taps on the bottom of the grip, just like the bottom of the camera. You can surely attach your tripod plate to it and use it on a tripod!CARMALLO C : I use my battery grip on a tripod to photograph my paintings very often. It is very stable and I have not had any problems with it.CHARLES N : Yes, there is a recessed threaded nut on the bottom of the battery grip that duplicates the one on the cameraJOHN L : Yes. The BG-E9 Battery Grip has a tripod socket just like the camera does. The finish and build quality is the same as the camera's. It also has a shutter button, AF-On, AE lock and AF point select buttons for vertical shooting. Spend the extra $ and get this one instead of a third party grip.

Very convenient

I shoot a lot of portrait format photos and I use the battery grip controls most of the time. I use the AA battery tray for a backup battery pack when I am shooting a lot of photos.

Great Product for my Canon EOS 60D DSLR when you need extra battery power for those long vacation photos when you don't have time to keep changing batteries.

Cheaper than other places, Exact same pr

Great way to improve battery life. Can use with 1 or 2 batteries installed and if one is completely dead, the camera will still function normally. Great product!

Get the Grip!

It helps to have extra weight for stability when shooting video. A pleasant surprise was the extra tray for 6-AA batteries that came with it. Nice to know it's there if there's an emergency situation - run through ALL batteries and no outlet. It comes with a bag to protect whichever tray you are not using at the time.

Completes the 60D

I just have not been able to use a camera body without a battery grip, ever. Camera bodies have always seemed to short to me, and I don't have big hands -- I always have at least my little finger left with nothing to hang to. With the BG-E9 my camera fits my hand so much better. It balances the body with a heavier lens beautifully.

A must for photographers/videographers

A battery grip allows one to double their effect shooting rate, as well as give the user more comfortable options for vertical shooting. However, this does give quite a bit of heft to the camera and will make things a little more difficult when carrying it around all day. Still a must have.

Very pleased with this item

This product makes my camera fit my hand so much better. The bottom of my camera no longer digs into the palm of my hand. Balances the body with a heavier lens wonderfully.

Well worth it

The name Canon pretty much says it all!! I bought a cheaper model first which didn't work, so if you can swing it, go for the Canon battery grip right off the bat!

Everything I expect from Canon

This is very well built piece of equipment. I was tempted to get one of the "knock-off" grips because they are a third the price. But once I put this grip on my camera, I had no reservations about paying full price. The quality and security knowing I have an authentic Canon piece are well worth the price.

great item, once I got one that worked

I purchased one of these when I bought my 60D. When I received it, the left LP-E6 spot in the tray would not recognize any battery I put in it, and I only have Canon batteries. I returned it for an exchange. The replacement I received had an altogether different issue. The shutter release button would not work properly. It would go the half way down to auto focus, but it took the strength of Hercules to depress it fully-which caused pulling of the camera to the side when taking picture. I returned that one for a refund. I received another grip from elsewhere and it works flawlessly. The weight balances larger lenses better than without and it just makes the camera feel "right". The huge gain in battery life is a great plus as well. I can shoot many vehicles at shows and not have to worry about going dead.

The Canon BG-E9 Battery Grip holds up to two LP-E6 battery packs or six AA Batteries to offer double-length shooting time. The vertical shutter release makes shooting with the camera in a vertical position just as comfortable as shooting horizontally.
