Shopper : is this camera compatible with the mac os 10.3.9 operating system?CATHERINE S : Yes. It works seamlessly with iPhoto. HOWEVER, it has leaked on me TWICE, so be careful when deciding to buy...STEVEN Y : yes! Go to the canon web site and review the tech specsREBECCA R : I bought this for a granddaughter, she just down loads on a windows operating computer.FRANCIS T : I use this camera with a Mac. I have used it with all versions of OSX 10. The camera works just fine when you plug in in to the USB port and works with iPhoto and Aperture. The Canon software, which I don't use often, also works.CATHERINE S : Yes, with no issues. HOWEVER, I have had many problems with this camera. I've returned it once for repair (under warranty) because water somehow made its way inside, and now it will not shoot still photos, although the videos work just fine. More accurately, it shoots the photos but they come out either black or white.
Carrell E : the screw in attachment for the wrist strap on our Canon Power Shot underwater camera is getting corroded........ any hints on where we could get another one? what is this piece even called! thanks..... Marty and CarrellELISABETH H : I had a difficult time finding this part even with calling Canon directly. I love Canon cameras and currently have a Canon 7D but their Customer Service is really lacking at times. This tiny screw piece was also expensive ($18.00) when I did find it through a local camera vendor who had more in roads at Canon Customer Service.DANIEL M : I had two of PS D10 and loved them. First didn't survive impact of large metal tool and second was lost. Now we have PS D20 and just geting familiarised with it. As about corroding screw I had no experiance. We had problem with sticky spring in the plastic attachment of a wrist strap. We added some petroleum jelly and wigled it a few times and it resolved our problem. Bought two, both failed to work very long.

We bought one of these for a trip to the Florida keys. I had read reviews that it was having issues with the LCD screen messing up or video footage having lines through it and being messed up, but I figured it didn't hurt to try since there were also great reviews. Basically, while it worked, it was great. During our big trip to the reefs though, it started having all the same issues everyone else mentioned. It was such a bummer! That day we ordered a second one with overnight shipping so we could use one for the rest of the vacation. It continued to work for the rest of that vacation all the way through our second vacation 2 years later. By the third vacation though, it also ended up with the same problems. This year we are again headed to the beach, so instead of buying this one, I am trying the newer D30. Here's to hoping it doesn't have any problems : My thought is that maybe the salt water causes problems that Canon hasn't thought of? If you decide to purchase the camera, just know that it would be good to purchase it with a warranty. The first one broke a few months after purchasing. The other lasted about three years and then started having issues.

Best little camera!

I've owned this camera for about 5 years and I have to say this is the Best multi use point and shoot. I can't even image going back to a regular point and shot (I hope I never have to). When I first got the camera, I did have a problem once with all of my pictures being erased after a fun trip to the keys snorkeling. So that was a little upsetting. But I learned my lesson to always download my pictures right away. However, I haven't had any issues since the incident. This camera is always in my purse, I'very taken it around the world. Its been in all kids of water including saltwater and now that I'm a parent, this camera is tons of fun with the kids in the pool. I would suggest this camera to all of my friends. I hope Canon keeps a camera like this in their line of powershots.

10,500 shots

After 10,500 shots I am ready to say the D10 works :). River trips, snorkeling, backpacks, camping, hikes, it did it all with no failure to fire. Nice colors, decent resolution. It outlasted three other small cameras. For GPS I just noted coordinates from a separate unit and added geotags later if needed. Some cameras won't work at low temps or even below room temperature but this one goes skiing and gets up early on hunting trips. I stepped on several other cameras and broke the lens covers, some fell off dashes, some dropped on pavement, but so what with the D10. Best is that it still has no dust in the lens where others have flare and spots from debris collected quickly. Nice not to fumble with lens caps in a hurry. I clean it with a shirt tail and no scratches or fingerprints that stay for long.

Love it

I love this little camera. I bought after reading Consumer Reports review and user reviews on Amazon. It's a perfect size for me. Fits easily in a purse. It was hard to find a case that fit.

Stay away from this one

I bought this camera when preparing for a trip to the Caribbean. Everything looked great when I got the camera and tested at home. As soon as I got in the salt water the rear display quit working. I got back on the boat and tried a few things to determine that the camera was still taking photos even though I couldn't see them. This brings new meaning to the term Point and Shoot. After a day out of the water the display came back on but but quit again as soon as I got in the water again. I sent the camera back to Canon when I got home and they sent me a refurbished camera to replace my new one. The new D10 did work well on a trip to the Grand Canyon but it also died when I took it on a rafting trip in Idaho. I think I took a total of 500 photos with it.

Works good

I bought this camera specifically for snorkeling because the disposable film cams are terrible. It works well for us! HAs survived two trips to Mexico with daily snorkel trips. I often dive to 15 ft to get pics and have had no problems with my D10. I've gotten some good pics with it form those trips. I was pleasantly surprised to find it takes nice pice out of the water too! FWIW, it's also survived a number of trips to rivers where it's been dunked repeatedly as well as a couple swimming pools. My only complaints were no HD video, and the body being a bit bulky. However, the bulky body does make it easy to handle underwater.

Great camera in or out of the water.

Our family loves this camera. Took video while scuba diving (shallow dives, snorkling and playing in the surf. Takes great pictures under water or above. Have taken incredible pictures in the surf, in water caves, etc. that I never could have gotten with my 7D.

Display stops working

I was very pleased with this camera until I used it under water (snorkeling, so not very deep). It takes good pictures and has good features. However, the first time I used it under water the display stopped working. The camera still takes pictures, but you cannot see what you are taking a picture of and cannot change any settings, so the camera is essentially worthless now.

You won't believe this!

I bought a D10 because I spend a lot of time outdoors, and I wanted a camera that could handle winter weather. After using my D10 for several years I have been very happy with the picture quality as well as the movies I make. On 1/27/2012 after ice climbing I discovered the camera came out of the case while walking down a canyon. Unable to find it in the snow I went home. Last weekend 6/10/2012 I went back into the canyon to look for it. To my surprise I found it laying next to a bush. I picked it up turned it on and took a picture. Not only did it take the picture but it downloaded all the pictures from my ice climb 5 months before when I got home. It still works perfect. The camera has been at 7,000 feet for 5 months, through 4 snow storms, 2 rain storms, single digit tempertures and now laying in the sun for several months. I don't know what more anyone could put this camera through. If you need a camera that can take the weather this camera has been tested.

Great Underwater Camera

I researched underwater cameras to use on my trip to Puerto Rico and looked at some other brands besides Canon (to give them a fighting chance). I chose this one because of it's range (up to 33ft underwater), 12.1 megapixels, durable design, wide temperature range, and shock resistant abilities. This camera made a great companion as I climbed waterfalls in the rainforest, and snorkeled off the coast. It has a great battery life and takes amazing pictures in and out of the water. Its range of settings lets you take full advantage of many different scenes, from low-light to bright. It not only functions well as an adventure camera, but it is also great to carry with you anywhere you go. Due to its underwater abilities, you can take it to the beach even if you don't plan on going in the water (no worries about sand and salt spray), or where ever you want (no worries about getting caught in a rainstorm!) The only drawbacks are its slightly bulky design; it won't fit in your pocket as easily as others can. Also, the outer case scratches easily- this is only a cosmetic problem. I do wish the zoom was better, which seems to be available in the D-20 model with a 5x zoom. One word of advice is to soak it well for a few hours in fresh water immediately after exposing it to salt. When you do soak it, make sure to take off any wrist lanyards attached to one of the 4 corner attachment sites. (I didn't, and the little attachment at the end of the lanyard became corroded because the fresh water could not get in to wash out the salt, and it almost became permanently attached.) If sand gets on any outside part of the case, rinse it off rather than trying to wipe it with your hand- this could lead to scratches. If sand or moisture gets into the compartments, remove it with a q-tip. MAKE SURE the rubber seals are lint and particle free when you close the battery and computer attachment compartments. I suspect the failure to do this is how some people end up with 'leaky' cameras. Water pressure will take advantage of any gaps, no matter how small. Besides the superior designs which have made me appreciate Canon, their service department is the best I have ever encountered. They are very quick, honest, and if you have a legit problem with their product, they will fix or replace it quickly.

A very good camera for Water Lovers

My Wife and I are kayakers. I was shooting very good camera and it started raining. $300 down the tube. My wife could not use this camera anyway. So we looked and said we would try the d10.. It can rain on us all day long and a little water from the paddles don't hurt anything either. For us it is a very good water sports camera. My wife can even operate it. Thank you cannon.

Shock proofed by me !

Today I fell hard on cement taking pictures of my daughter & baby with her digital camera & my canon powers-shot in my hands, I have to replace hers, but mine works after that hard hit ! Just why I went the extra mile & bought this camera, I knew I wanted to snorkel & boat without worry. I'm still learning how to use all the extras of this camera.

Versatile Camera

I really got tired of using separate and expensive water proof casing for my P&S cameras. The D10 solved the problem. Whether fishing rivers or snorkeling I know I can count on this baby to do the job!

Best little camera I own

Best little camera I own. My main camera is an advanced Nikon DSLR system. But I always have this little Canon with me. I have used it in water, mud, on my bike, etc. It is great. Takes great pictures and is virtually bomb proof. If you are active and always want a camera with you, this is the camera for you.

Awesome underwater camera

Bought it for taking pictures underwater. This will also be great for skiing and kayaking. My Canon EOS digital Rebel is too heavy and bulky for those activities. Love the macro. Have not tried all of the different features and can't wait to try.

Great shots, but clunky.

I bought this for kayaking. It takes excellent photos for a point-and-shoot. It also starts much faster than the Pentaxes I used before. The one drawback is that the lens bulge makes it difficult to pull out of the pocket of my PFD -- or any pocket, for that matter.

All that it claims to be

I just got back from a long weekend in Yosemite National Park with my Canon Powershot D10, and it's all that it's cracked up to be. I've had this camera for almost two years now, and it does exactly what I want. It is a little large, not quite comfortably fitting into a pants pocket, but I'll deal with the inconvenience. I travel extensively, and I don't baby my gear. If it can't handle my lifestyle, I don't want it. Among other things, I'm a long distance backpacker and a scuba diver. I go to cold, dusty, rough, remote places, as well as the standard spin around town. I need a versatile, high-performing camera to fill in the gaps where my SLR is too bulky, too heavy or too fragile to go. I've taken the D10 diving (down to 12 meters, oops) and gotten amazing pictures that were the envy of my peers (even compared to someone shooting with a G12 in an underwater housing!). I've been dunked in a stream overflowing with snow melt, and the camera hasn't missed a beat. I throw it in my backpack for three days in the backcountry, and it takes amazing pictures. The startup time is negligible and the features are all familiar from my Canon SLR. I shoot on program mode, and modifications and settings are quick and easy. It's not as customizable as I'd like (can't manually set exposure time or aperture). I'd love to be able to attach a remote to it for some time-lapse or super-long exposures. The zoom range isn't too impressive, although it does have digital zoom (I usually ignore this feature, since I think quality dwindles). Battery life does leave something to be desired, especially in the areas that I take it. I need to get a second battery. I'd love it if this camera could charge off USB. All that being said, I've taken some truly amazing professional-quality pictures in places that don't welcome professional-quality gear. I love my Powershot D10 and don't go anywhere without it.

rugged!

I wanted a rugged point and shoot to use when there was time to use my dslr. It was handy in the downpour I experienced in Uganda while trekking to mountain gorillas. This year I intend to use it in Devil's Pool at Victoria Falls!

GREAT!!!

I bought this camera and we use it all the time! The kids love playing with it underwater, pictures (especially outdoors) are truly awesome, especially for a point and shoot!!!! Highly recommended. The kids drop it sometimes (it happens) and it is truly made very well. I have a fancy 40D which is big and heavy, so more times than not we grab the D10 beach, pool, skiing you name it.

Excellent

I take this into bad weather and salt and fresh water and has performed very well. Good IQ for the size. Good for close ups underwater as well. Don't like the design too much, but it contributes to the ruggedness and I can get it easily out of my pockets when sailing since it has nothing which can snag on things. Can take a fair amount of abuse snowboarding and skiing as well. Overall brilliant.

Extremely satisified

I must tell you I am more impressed with Cannon than I am with the camera and here is why. I purchased this camera a couple of weeks prior to a trip to Jamaica. The camera functioned perfectly for our needs throughout the course of our trip, but on our 3rd day we went snorkeling, and I was excited to take this camera with me. I can assure you I double checked all the "covers" were closed (at the battery enclosure), but when we jumped in to the semi-rough seas for our snorkeling, I noticed the cover was open, and the camera completely saturated with sea water. We washed it out, dried it out, recharged the battery, etc. etc. did everything we could and it would not work. I was devistated as I just purchased this camera. We took a chance and sent it to Cannon for repair (knowing that it would be easy for a company to say it was operator error, or that we had not filled out the warranty card yet, I was expecting the worst). To my surprise, Cannon immediately responded. No charge, complete replacement. I was absolutely shocked at the fact there was no resistance. I typically feel like I have to "gripe" at companies for issues such as these, and quite honestly I felt this was a lost cause at the start. Instead, I have been nothing but impressed at the highest level of the customer service we recieved, no questions asked. Now, for the camera - it is awesome. It does all we asked and more. I have been very happy, and I would strongly reccomend that if this is not the camera for you (should be - it's versatile and fun), I would stick with the Cannon brand out of principle. Good luck!

Good general purpose in moist conditions

I researched and finally got this camera for taking phootos while fishing and outdoors in a saltwater conditions. Good camera to take on a boat in saltwater and not worry about damage. Also good general purpose camera for all other conditions. Excellent sound for video and picks up sound. If you can hear it so dos the camera only you can increase volume on playback.

Worked for a year then sporadic

We have two of these cameras, mine worked fine for the first year and now, I get a lens error often and this morning it will turn on then off immediately, with a full battery charge. We bought this camera hoping it would last more than a year, especially for the price and we are VERY disappointed. I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a long term camera.

D10 -- Love it!

I bought the Powershot D10 and took it to the Caribbean- beautiful shots. I adore the versatility of the camera and it is very convenient to go to the beach in a storm and take great pictures without worrying that the water is going to ruin the camera. I was looking for a camera to snorkle with that also took good night shots. I really wanted something that performs well in low-light conditions and I've found it. This camera is simply awesome. It takes great underwater pics. Just choose the underwater mode and get yourself the legendary point and shoot Canon quality shots.
