I purchased this adapter along with the CA PS-700 AC power adapter for use with an XSi during macro photography. It is the size and shape of the battery and fits into the camera perfectly. The wire from the AC power adapter is plugged into this unit before it is inserted into the camera. A small rubber flap on the edge of the battery compartment allows the wire to protrude from the camera without interfering the the battery door. As expected, Canon designs its products to work together flawlessly. Just to be clear, this is a hollow shell, made in China, with a plug, wires, and contacts for the camera. It is neither rocket science nor a work of art.

The Canon DR-E5 DC Coupler When used in conjunction with a compatible AC adapter allows you to power your Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera directly from an AC Power source. This is a preferable means of powering the camera when shooting in a studio environment, when shooting tabletop product photography, or any photo situation where the camera may need to be powered up for long periods of time.
