What took me so long to go digital????

I was very skeptical about going digital. I have the Canon 35mm rebel with also the 80-300mm lens. A friend suggested the digital and I just didn't think I would like the quality of the pictures. Well, after lots of thought, I finally bought it and now I wonder what took me so long. I just used it and shot about 100 pictures at one event. When I got home, I was able to delete the pics that I didn't like, before going and having them all developed and then sifting through the ones I wouldn't use when scrapbooking the event. I can't wait to take this one to Disney in September. Great purchase and I am very pleased with the easy to use ability of the camera. Since I am not that familiar with digital, I was some worried, but it is very user friendly.

Flash only works with hot shoe

Purchased it because everyone said it had a flash PC connector, [...]. It does not have a flash PC connector and fires multiple shots from it's canon flashes that make it difficult to set up flash pictures. I gave it away to a beginner friend and went back to my 20D for digital.

Early Adopter - completely satisfied

Most pros know you have to calibrate your camera. This was true with film, and it's more true with digital cameras. The most common complaint I've heard about the XTi (flash exposure issues) is totally correctable in just a few minutes from the camera setup menus. Otherwise, it's been an amazing camera, saving me thousands over the professional version with all the same features I use and higher resolution. It's a no brainer.

Great Camera -

I have had little success taking sports pictures of my kids with a standard digital camera. On the recommendation of a friend, I purchased this camera along with a Canon USM 70-300MM lens. This combination has been terrific. I have also been taking advantage of Canon's online training to learn photography in general and the operation of the XTI specifically. Overall I'm pleased with the XTI and I think it is something I can build on and use for a very long time.

No disappointment!

This is my fifth Canon SLR, 2nd digital and like the others, it has not been a disappointment. It has a solid and sturdy feel. And the prints have been beautiful. Definitely worth the money!

I was skeptical of going digital

I have been waiting for an affordable digital canon with more megapixels. This is it! I love this camera.I am impressed with the clarity of detail and the fact that I can edit my pictures before investing time and money to print them. It will probably be a while before I take some film shots with my EOS rebel. This camera has rekindled the shutterbug in me.

Canon is the King

I bought the camera a month ago with an EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM SLR lens. Pictures are excellent and controls are easy to use. I'm exploring the advance controls of the camera and they are easy to setup and use. So far the experience is great. Even in auto mode camera takes excellent pictures. If anyone is looking for a professional digital SLR, Canon Rebel XTi is an excellent choice.

Couldn't be happier - a phenominal value

I love this camera so much I just insured it! Of all of the purchases I've made in my 37 years of life, this is one of the best values bar none. I considered the 30D and 5D but couldn't pass up on the value the XTi offered and the quality when paired with good lenses (especially the L lenses). I absolutely LOVE this lens and honestly I can find very few faults. I wish it could hold 30 RAW images in burst mode, and I wish the P mode would do a better job avoiding blurry images, but otherwise this thing is perfect. Oh, and it would be great if it had a full-frame sensor, but even if I bought the 5D replacement I'd still keep this one in my bag with my 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens as the results I get with that combo are absolutely incredible.

Very Impressive for Small $$$

This is my first digital SLR, and I have fallen in love. This camera does everything I need, and has plenty of extra features that I haven't even touched yet. I've had the camera for about four months, and it hasn't given me any troubles at all so far. My only complaint is that it is a little too small for my hands, but that will soon be fixed with a battery grip. Like all Canons I've used to this point, this camera makes anyone feel like a pro behind the lense. I especially enjoy shooting RAW and using the 10 megapixels to their fullest. Overall this camera is great, and I have used the Nikon D80 and I think the XTi is a perfect fit for me. Worth every penny.

sensor cleaning facility, bigger screen are the only attractions, If you own Rebel XT then I would not recommend XTi, as there isnt much in this version..

Awesome!

An incredible bridge from simple to more complex photography. If buying as a lens combo kit, I suggest upgrading to: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

is simple to use with excellent colour reproduction and unparalled sharpness

Using Canon AE-1 for many years,I finally took the digital plunge. I purchased the Rebel XTi as a "back-up" and a Nikon D200 as a primary camera. After shooting a few thousand pictures, I have decided to use the Rebel as my "fulltime" camera. It is simple to use with excellent colour reproduction and unparalled sharpness.

a great step-up.....

i like the camera body as i do have small hands and the fit feels very comfortable. i do wish that the body had the anti-shake feature but buying the lenses which do makes it great and the anti-dust on the sensor feature is a smart purchase too!

Great Camera, so-so documentation

I've been a Canon user for years, and one reason I purchased Canon again is that I already have some lenses. This camera takes great pictures, as would any camera with equal resolution and features. Being able to shoot in both RAW and JPEG is very useful if you are interested in using Photoshop. I don't think that this camera will disappoint anyone who purchases it. I do think that Canon needs to put some more thought into their documentation. I found the instruction book poorly organized and not very detailed. Once you learn Canon's menu organization on the camera itself, the buttons all make sense. I think that this camera is a great choice, and heads above the rest in this category. The only reason to spend more money would be to get a camera with a full frame sensor.

Excellent camera, excellent value

I bought the camera body without the (universally derided) kit lens, and with the Sigma 18 - 125 zoom. Together these work very nicely, and silently - contrary to some early reviews. Color rendition is generally good, but I found that the automatic white balance sometimes gets fooled - no problem if you set it. I'm getting extremely detailed, sharp, low noise photos even at ISO 800 and perhaps 1600. I'm not missing the absence of body-housed VR except at very low light levels, when I can use flash or a tripod. I miss the absence of spot metering, although the center weighted option is almost as useful much of the time. The autofocus, with this Sigma lens, had a tendency to mis-focus also in low light levels until I switched to the center-spot weighted option. I'd like to see the built-in flash be able to bounce - none of the competitors cameras can be used as bounce flash either. To the folks who say high megapixel counts are unimportant, I say that the extra detail becomes important when you crop and blow up small sections of an image using Photoshop or the equivalent - if there is not enough detail there you are limitied in what you can do.

A solid performer

A solid digital SLR. The controls are fairly straightforward, although some time with the manual helps. The automatic settings are good. It's pretty easy to adjust settings while shooting. The AF and metering are reliable. There are some excellent features available for those who are willing to get into the manual, but it's simple enough to use right from the box. Battery life is good and start up time is excellent.

She's almost perfect!

This is my first DSLR after giving up film. I've been loyal to Canon for years, but had a hard time closing the deal on the Rebel XT when Nikon just released the D80. Low and behold, Canon releases the XTi! I bought it on sort of a whim when it first came out...no reviews or anything. I went on the faith that there's no way Canon would release an upgrade that wasn't better in every way than it's replacement. Well, my faith came true! This camera is an incredible bargain for what you get. The polycarb body doesn't bother me...seems this is where they were able to cut the cost to make this such a buy. A few things to remember...from ISO 100 to 800 I usually keep +2/3 exposure comp when shooting in lower light and light colored objects outdoors. When shooting ISO 1600, be very careful not to underexpose the shot. ISO 1600 pics from this camera are very nice, just remember to turn up the EV comp. Spend the money for good, fast aperature lenses! You won't regret it and the performance will be even more stunning. I use the EF-S 18-55 F2.8 IS and the EF 70-200 F4L IS. Excellent lenses!
