I have had my PRO-1 for several years and this thing is impossible to break. It has been dropped (on concrete! during transport and still works perfectly. I have always believed in Canon printers but now - WOW - truly a remarkable piece of technology!

This printer is very slow, takes a long time to power up, and many times powers up with an error condition. The printing is dark so I have to lighten all my images to print them properly. After 4 years of minimal use, it just stopped printing in the middle of a photo page. There is no power in the printer, so I can't get out my ink tanks. I have tried ALL possibilities and nothing will restore power to this printer. There are only two repair shops in my state, and both are hours away. For all intents and purposes, the printer is too heavy and cumbersome to ship and too big to transport in my car. I have a very large, very heavy, very expensive paper weight!

Bought this about a year ago and have been happy to use it. The ink isn't cheap but it doesn't suck it up like some reviews here claim. You do have to learn to use this - I was new to printing my photos and the learning curve what's that steep.

I bought this printer a couple years ago. It prints good pictures very slowly. Every time I turn it on it needs ink, despite rarely using it, and the ink is extremely expensive. Every time I start printing a number of errors come up, usually for not closed doors or low on ink on one cartridge or another. Before beginning printing it goes through a series of procedures that apparently waste a lot of ink because this thing always needs ink despite having printed very few pictures. It prints good pictures, but you must be very patient and very rich to buy enough ink and to keep enough ink on hand for all the required cartridge replacements.

This is a great printer and a plus is that you can print CD. Just because you bought a great does not mean you will get what you are looking for. To get the most from this printer you need to profile you monitor and the paper you use.

I bought the Pixma as the printer I wanted to use of my small photography business - I've printed pictures for a few clients and they love them. The luster paper is incredible and the DVD label burner is absolutely amazingly quick and precise.

I think it's a good product and it's wireless;and once you connected to your network you are good to good and it was a good price and this was my first wireless printer best ever.

The Canon Pro-1 printer is great. Beautiful prints from the start. Canon delivers quality, as usual.

First, like some other reviews stated, you have to calibrate everything and understand printer profiles to get ANY printer to print correctly. Nothing works "out of the box". And the comments about excessive ink usage, remember that the printer comes with starter ink. These are not full cartridges, plus the printer will suck up half of the cartridge on initial setup and priming of the lines. Once you get past the initial cartridges you will see that this printer performs better than the rest. So with that said, I'm a photographer of 25 years and have used just about every possible ink jet photo printer since the very first ones. I was using the Pixma 9000 and thought that was great. This one blows it away. The prints I get are better than lab quality. My customers love them. Yes, this printer is large and heavy. I didn't have the desk space so I bought a roller cart and just wheel it around when I need it. So it's stored in a corner of my office and wheels over to my desk when I print. So in summary, all my other printers are in the printer graveyard in the garage since my purchasing of this one. It's worth the money and worth the time to get everything calibrated. You won't be disappointed.

This unit is very difficult to set up on on a multi subnet network. Printer and Print Server must be on the same subnet. This limitation was not advertised in the sales information..

The PIXMA PRO-1 is heavy and covers half of my computer desk. The PIXMA PRO-1 so far has eaten the ink cartridges very quickly which is not cost effective. Now, I have to say that I have been printing on 13X19 high glossy paper, so that might have something to do with it. The reasons why I would not recommend this printer is because of the size and the speed of the use of ink. It is also slow at printing, but the clarity of the pictures are of a high quality. Set up was easy and changing the ink was also easy.

Black and white images printed out of this beast is simply astonishing. Be aware! You must have an understanding of "Color Management" and "Printer Profiling" and "Monitor Calibration" to get this or any other "Photo Printer" to produce beautiful images. Once you have these factors setup, what you get out of this printer will blow you away! Well, it blew me away!!! I use Adobe photoshop and lightroom with this printer. Using Photoshop to manage printer settings, the printer produces beautifully printed images when settings are right. If setting are wrong, you will be disappointed in quality. Maybe that is why some people have given this printer low ratings... I Said MAYBE! So, don't hold me to my statement!!! I have an imac with mavericks os installed, and used canon Pro Luster finish, and selected that paper "Canon Pro Luster" printer profile in photoshop and stated that photoshop should handle printer profile, and it produced very close to monitor output. I'm ver satisfied with this product.

This is in reference to the PIXMA Pro 1. I cannot believe how useless this printer is. When I say useless I do mean unable to use. I was unable to get quality prints from this when it was working but now that I can't even get it to update to the latest firmware and drivers my computer wont even recognize it. This printer just sits there taunting me, reminding me how much I spent for this heap. I had high hopes for this printer but those have all since been squashed. There is next to no useful information online about the PIXMA Pro 1 and this includes the manufacturers own website. This product has been such a waste of time and money I actually spent time writing a review about it.

That's good stuff. I got this printer in a bundle with a Canon 6D + 24-105 F4 L lens, Adobe Premier Software, and a 50 pack of 13" x 19" Canon Photo Paper. This printer is enormous and it weighs quite a bit. Its shipping weight is 80 lbs and out of the box, the printer itself weighs a good 60 lbs. I need another body to help me move this printer around. Out of the box it takes a good amount of time to set everything up. About 15-20 min to take everything out of the box and insert the printer ink cartridges. It then needs about another 30 min to calibrate the printer head (I think that's what it's called). Finally, after installing the software, it took about another 45 minutes to print out 2 test pages for another calibration. All in all, you'll spend a good 2 to 3 hours going through setup and calibration before you can actually start printing stuff out. I've never owned a photo printer before, this is my first photo printer and what better printer to test the waters with than Canon's new flagship Pixma? I printed out a few 4x6 images without altering any print settings, just choosing the correct paper (Kirkland Pack of 300 4" x 6" Glossy photo paper). I have to say that the photos came out slightly darker than desired; the shadows were a little more pronounced than I wanted, but I'm sure there's a way to change the print settings so that my pictures come out brighter. Aside from the photo being generally darker than I wanted, the quality and consistency of the print is great. Uniformity throughout the photo and with precision. I have yet to print out a 13" x 19" photo (the max size this can print out). What I do use it for, and what my primary intended use for it, is to print out 4" x 6" photos for my photo booth at parties. As my friend pointed out to me, a printer of this caliber is a bit overkill for my primary use. I likened it to requesting the assistance of the military to deal with a shoplifter. My only gripes are that this printer is so big and heavy, but when you're after quality printing, that is the trade. So far I've used this printer successfully for my photo booth at 2 parties. I wouldn't mind the print speed a little faster, but I can get by with the print speed for my 4" x 6" prints. It takes about 3-5 min to print out a 4" x 6" at standard quality. Lastly, make sure to place this printer on a stable surface. I initially had this on one of the lifetime folding tables, and it would sway the table when it would print, due to the printer head action going back and forth. satisfied overall.

I could not, in good conscience, recommend this printer. Ink use is excessive and reliability is questionable and the cost per print is outrageous.

No support at all for 11x14 inch prints. If you started with photography with a dark room you know how important 11x14 inch prints are to your business. Canon does not sell 11x14 inch paper. You have to "fool" it by printing on 13x19. In a business this is a waste. The front load is a joke at best, and time consuming. Picture quality is great, but does not make up for the paper issues. can not print borderless on fine art papers. The margins are not even around the border and I've tried for hours to correct this to no avail. Going to sell mine and get a printer that supports all PHOTO size papers.

Upgraded from the 9500 Mark II even though I loved that printer, too. The Pro1 is even better. Great images and nice large cartridges (although pricey. But worth it so that I don't have to change them as often and the price/ml is less. Even with the first cartridges draining faster, they still lasted a while. And they go for quite a while even after getting a warning from My Printer that they are running low. Never had one go out in the middle of a printing, so they must have a sensor or something. Images are outstanding and discovered my new favorite paper (Canson Platine). Paper handling is nicer than the 9500 for large sheets (no more front feeding). No complaints. Footprint isn't an issue as I have space for the beast. Takes a while to get primed sometimes, but most times I'm not in a hurry...it is worth the wait!

A big foot print but it replaced two printers, a i9900 and Epson 1400. To get the most out of this printer you need to be able to profile all your papers and your monitor. Color Munki is OK but with the Xrite i1 profiler you will see what this printer really can do. Like I said "I have owned this printer for a year" and have no regrets.

Retired my Canon Pro 9500 and bought a Canon Pro 1. Loved the Pro 9500 and didn't think that the Pro 1 could get all that much better but the professional reviews tempted me. Print image quality is the only thing that interests me so I will avoid discussing the printer's weight, large footprint, speed, etc. All of the above work for me. I ran a few test prints and had the following observations. "Printer Manages Color" actually gave some very acceptable results where my old Pro 9500 didn't. The shadows in the "Printer Manages Color" Pro 1 prints did tend to block up a bit. I ran a few prints using canned OEM ICC profiles printing from Photoshop and I got surprizingly terrible results (just the opposite on the Pro 9500). I actually got better results with the Canon downloaded profiles for these other paper suppliers. I guess Canon is more meticulous. I had custom ICC profiles made for the Pro 1 with a third party service (all the professional reviews suggest custom profiles) and got exceptional results as expected. You really need to get some made or make your own ICC's. Big difference. Color prints are exceptional but so were color prints on the Pro 9500. Black and White prints are where the real difference is. I never realized how much of a magenta cast my B&W prints printed from the Pro 9500 had until I compared them with the Pro 1 whose B&W prints are about as dead neutral as you can get. My only complaint about Canon printers in general is the forced 35mm margin when using the "Fine Art" print media. Although, being able to print up to 13"x26.5" or 14"x23" on the Pro 1 compensates for it. These sizes are a very nice touch. If you do get custom ICC profiles made for Fine Art paper use the "Matt Photo" media setting when printing the color targets. The forced margin goes away with no loss of image quality. Wonderful printer. This is as good as it gets with an A3+ printer.

As a former owner of a 9500 I researched other printers but went back with the Canon because if you send canon your own picture they will send you back a print to view while other companies will send you a print of their choice not yours. If you are looking for a simple printer to print the occasional photo then save your money and buy a cheaper version but if you are looking for a printer that produces professional results the Pro 1 is a great printer. As with any photo printer you need to be familiar with using ICC profiles and driver settings to obtain the best results when printing. The included profiles are great and when compared to other prints are superior but if you have the capability to create your own profile then the Pro 1 just keeps getting better matching skin tones flawlessly. Once profiled the Pro 1 prints consistent colors across all of the print media that I have tried while the stock profiles seem to perform better with canon papers. Pigment based ink printers are designed to be used frequently and I imagine that the Pro 1 is no different so again if you plan to use it occasionally a cheaper printer may be better suited and even the dye based inks will dry in the printer head if not used for a long period. A lot of negative reviews about ink usage but I cannot see that the Pro one is using any more ink than other printer models of this caliber. If you are familiar with print driver settings and profiles then the ink usage is kept within reason but the wrong driver not matching the paper can cause some additional ink being used but like stated ink usage is no more than other printers in this class. I have noticed that my print cost has gone up .01 on a 4x6 and .03 on an 8x10 but the cost is minimal compared to the quality that you get. When getting into printers of this quality they get large in size and this one is no exception with it being substantially larger than my old 9500 so make sure you read the specifications to verify you have adequate space for this printer. I would highly recommend this printer and as of now I am pleased with the Pro 1, if you are an experienced user I would not hesitate to purchase one, if you are new to printing then start reading up on software, driver settings and ICC profiles and purchase the Pro1.

The printer came new with scratches, small cracks in the case - this was not from shipping, but the way it was built and shipped like that. The printer uses a lot of ink. I already replaced most of the inks once, and the inks are getting low again. I print a few sheets a week. This printer will cost you more in ink and paper supplies per month than the most expensive iPhone plan. The printer wants to cycle its head after a dozen prints, which uses up a lot of ink. Think twice before buying - this printer is very heavy, too. I would not buy this printer again.

The quality of the prints is excellent. Just superb. As good as anything one gets from a professional printing house. Now for the bad news: One, the printer is half the size of my first car, the VW Beetle, and Two the price of the ink cartridges is out of sight. To replace all twelve cartridges is almost half the price of the printer.

This is a tremendous printer, and printing results are astounding! I am disappointed with the ink usage that seems to be inordinately high with this printer. There must be a problem here, or else I'm doing something wrong, but after very little printing, I am already having to replace all of my ink cartridges. This isn't good and I hope this problem can be resolved.

The PIXMA PRO-1 Professional Inkjet Printer is the quintessential tool for the professional photographer that gives you the ability to print the images you captured with your Canon EOS Digital SLR, exactly as you envisioned it. The 12 LUCIA pigment ink system expands the color gamut with improved saturation of colors and darker, deeper blacks. This system allows the professional photographer to achieve new levels of skin tone reproduction, accuracy and quality, so your prints exhibit stunning detail. The 12 LUCIA Pigment Inks also assist in reproducing the vibrant colors of life captured by Canon's well respected EOS Digital SLR cameras.
An essential element to the 12 LUCIA pigment ink system is the use of five monochrome inks. These inks, which consist of Photo Black, Matte Black, Dark Gray, Gray, and Light Gray, deliver enhanced, deep black density to raise your level of professional print quality when creating the dramatic expression of grayscale photography. Your printed photographs will also realize smooth tonality and gradations to retain the original vision of your captured image.
Since conventional inks do not inherently sit evenly on paper, bumps are formed between the droplets themselves. The Chroma Optimizer reduces the difference in ink droplet height to form a flat and smooth ink layer. The result is evenly reflected light, deep blacks, and bright, saturated colors.
The new PGI-29 Color LUCIA Pigment Inks are approximately 155% larger than previous Canon PIXMA Pro printer ink tanks, and almost 40% larger than the ink tanks used by select competitors. Larger individual ink tanks means less time is required replacing inks, that way more time can be spent printing, for a more productive and streamlined workflow. To further support a more efficient workspace, the built-in Ethernet port allows multiple users to seamlessly print from several networked computers in any environment.
The Optimum Image Generating (OIG) System utilizes two major technologies implemented in the PIXMA PRO-1. The first is a sophisticated mixing balance of inks determined from numerous ink combinations and advanced analysis, the second is the balancing of color reproduction, tonal gradations, and uniform glossiness. The genius and power of the OIG System is truly showcased when your image is printed, exhibited, and is seen exactly as you envisioned it.
For media support, the PIXMA PRO-1 proudly supports professional photo printing on a variety of Fine Art and Glossy Photo Papers. Its two-way paper feeding provides a rear tray for most supported media types, and a dedicated manual feed in the back of the printer for easy loading of thicker papers. Canon also offers an assortment of specialty photo papers, each with specific characteristics to meet your dynamic photo printing needs. Exactly.
