I have been using this camera for about 8 months and have been very pleased with it. It takes great pictures for a compact camera, is easy to use, is versatile, and has good battery life. In short -- it does exactly what I bought it for. I've used it under a wide variety of conditions (cold, hot, wet, dry, indoors, outdoors, etc) and it always seems to come through. The controls are easy to use and the menus lend a lot of flexibility to the pictures. It has a solid feel to it. All in all, if you're looking for a compact digital camera I don't think you can do much better than this one.

I was looking for a small camera with all the features the Canon SD 990IS has. I no longer need to take a large camera with me anywhere I go. Just the perfect camera for great photography, easy to use, small , compact and easy to carry around.

I use this camera recreationally and it takes superb pics! Great features, easy to learn and use. My finacee especially enjoys it. Can't wait to start using all of the programmable features and even for diving. Good job Canon!! Suprised it does not take HD video...but got a great videocam for that anyway!

I bought this camera for 2 features, continuous shoot mode and red eye correction. Both features are awesome. Even when the camera is not in continuous shoot mode the shutter lag is much faster than my old powershot. No more missing the good shots. The rechargeable battery is just an added bonus and holds a long charge. With previous powershot it felt as if I had to change the batteries every time I used the camera. I learned to use many of the features just by playing with the camera. Easy to use. The picture of the black version does not do it justice as it is very sharp looking in person.

I upgraded from an older digital Elph and really like this camera. Great picture quality. Does well in low light. Image stabilizer is a nice feature. My only complaint is the on/off button is really small and flush with the body, making it hard for me (arthritis) to turn on and off. I really like the looks of the black camera. Dials and settings are easy to navigate and well placed. Lots of extras packed into this little camera. It's everything you need in a compact, attractive, convenient point and shoot.

When I was researching point and shoots, I wanted to get a camera that had a manual mode where I could adjust shutter speed and aperature. After reading several reviews and the specs on Cannon's web site, this camera was described as being fully manual. Here is the scoop: When in manual mode, you do have full control of the shutter speed, but can only adjust the aperature to 2.8 of 8.0. My other Cannon, which was the Cannon S80, had fully manual mode, where I could fully adjust the shutter speed and aperature. Am I looking for this camera to become a digital SLR? No, but shame on Cannon for misrepresenting manual mode with the SD990IS. Overall however, this is an excellent point and shoot camera for the money.

I have had many of the SD line cameras from Canon and have liked them all and the newest of Canon's lineup is no exception. I enjoy the look and feel of the camera in my hand and is a great camera to hide in your pocket or hand to keep it on the down low! I really like the black body, the larger files, and is an overall very nice camera. I do like my G10 better, but this is much smaller and great for those shots that you are not so concerned about, but have something quality still to capture with.

The Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Compact Digital ELPH Camera features sleek, sculptured profile. It's the very first ELPH to offer you the contemporary cool of pure black - making the boldest camera contours seem even more dramatic. When classic style reflects your fashion sense, indulge in the satiny glow of silver tone. Both are the very image of photography at its best, featuring mega pixels of the highest resolution among Digital ELPH to capture every detail of the world around you.
There's never been a better time to think big, knowing that every enlargement will be sharper and more full-of-life than you've ever experienced before. The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH has 3.7x optical zoom. A zoom opens up a world of possibilities in your photography and thanks to innovative Canon engineering, it's housed in a camera that's sized to go everywhere with you. With many cameras, hand-held shots taken at the long end of the zoom can be marred by blur. The SD990 IS Digital ELPH incorporates Canon's exclusive Optical Image Stabilizer.
The technology detects and effectively cancels camera shake, for clear, sharp images every time. The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH gives you large 2.5-inch LCD screen for excellent control when framing your shots. Canon's PureColor LCD II offers spectacular color, resolution and contrast even when viewed at an angle. The screen is highly durable and easy to see in any light with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective coating. It also features Night Display for easy viewing in low light - a perfect feature for gathering friends and family around to see your images. Canon's proprietary DIGIC Image Processors have long set its cameras apart from the competition and the new DIGIC 4 sets the bar even higher. Faster, more accurate noise reduction delivers better image quality, even at high ISO speeds.
iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance. DIGIC 4 also makes possible the new i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark and more natural transition. The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.
