Works as advertised. It was very easy to replace the stock screen. It is now much easier to focus manually opening up the potential to use vintage lenses with ease. The few focusing points on the 5D classic no longer poises a problem.

After beginning to use older manual Nikkor lenses I ran into a problem: it was really difficult to see if something was precisely in focus through my 5D's tiny viewfinder. After quite a bit of research I found that there weren't many options to help make focusing easier. I really wanted to find a focusing screen for the 5D that utilized the old-school split image mechanism, but there really isn't anything out there like that (currently being made/sold). This focusing screen is a decent alternative. It makes the difference between in-focus and out-of-focus objects more drastic in the viewfinder, so you're not turning the focus ring a long distance in either direction, barely able to see a change in focus. It does definitely make the images appear darker in the viewfinder, and in order for the camera to properly expose the shot you have to set the custom function for the new focusing screen (a quick google search will show you how to easily do this).

This is so much better than the split-circle focusing I used back in the day with my manual-focus film camera. With this, you can focus anywhere in the screen. So, I can constantly be adjusting my composition and focus at the same time, instead of going back to the center (or other) focus point as the subject moves and then recomposing. In many situations, this is actually faster than the camera can pull off, even though manual focus. It has gradually changed the way I shoot for the better.

Changing the screen out wasn't difficult, just read the instructions carefully. I was expecting a larger improvement, but the modest gain was welcome. It works very well with my 85/1.8 and 70-200/2.8. The 24-105/4 is distinctly darker, but still usable with this screen. It is tough to use the LensBaby at lower settings (f/5.6 and f/8) because the screen is so dark. But it can be done, and I use the faster lenses much more. Remember to change the camera custom function for the focus screen, or the light meter will read wrong.

Very easy to install and it makes it so much clearer where the focus is. Also gives a better idea about the DOF. It even works fine with my f/4 lens. I doubt I will ever swap in the standard again.

This screen works great - much easier to confirm visual focus or manual focus. The warnings are true though, you need faster maximum apertures to use this screen.

I just put this in my 5d and testing with an 85 1.8 shows it is very easy to confirm exact focus, something that was not true with the standard screen. Very easy to change out and a huge improvement for very little money. I have not tried any slower lenses yet to see how that is but I also don't own any and am not planning on buying them. I truly appreciate that I can now control where I put the focus point with precision and confidence, despite poor vision and glasses. Highly recommended!
