Simple & EasyI bought this for my significant other, she was having a bit of trouble with my old 400D I had given her: she was more concerned with lens setting dials and controls than just shooting photos. This SX10 IS is simple to use and lets her concentrate on the photo, not the gear. It works well for still shots and for video, and the zoom is surprisingly sharp across the range.Buying Canon refurbished is probably better than buying new[...]

Needed to buy a better camra to take upclose and very clear photos for items in my online store. My sister has this camera and takes unbelieveable photos of her kids. I fell in love with hers and wanted my own! It was just what I was looking for- great quality without the bulk size. Easy to take on vacations/sporting events and for everyday use and also good enough for the professional side of things I do. [...]

Very nice camera, and I'm enjoying taking wildlife photos from my canoe--the great zoom and image stabilization really help. Love the EVF.But I find it irritating that it did not come with a lens cap tether and I had to go looking for one--$4.99 at [...].And I HATE that it didn't come with a hard copy owner's manual. Reading the PDF has been necessary but tedious and inconvenient. I'd like to have the manual with me when I'm using the camera.

This is a big advance from my S3IS Canon which I have had since it was introduced. It is very similar in terms of use so I had an easy time learning to use it. Controls are better placed and easier to use/more intuitive. The in-depth reviews of the SX20 you can read on the internet pretty much cover everything you need to know. I haven't found the "cons" in those reviews to be any problem for me or the way I use the camera.[...]

A really nice camera, with a lot of good features. Debated between an SLR and this, and ultimately got this because of the cost (to match the zoom on this baby with an SLR would cost quite a bit of money in lenses). Pictures look great. Lag time is not too bad, though still has a bit. I love the swivel LCD screen. Best feature of all is the zoom. One other cool thing. With photos, the zoom moves rapidly. With video (which is up to 720p HD) the zoom moves slowly. This makes the image smooth, and doesn't create audible noise in the recording. All in all, a great camera.

@Marv.... please take some time to read the owner's manual for the SX20is. Right beside the viewfinder is a small knurled knob. This knob will adjust the focus of the screen inside the viewfinder so it's nice and sharp. ;)

Indoors, using the screen, the refurbished SX20IS demonstrated great low light sensitivity, stabilization, and telephoto capability. Outside, in bright sunlight using the viewfinder, the camera was barely usable. The viewfinder was blurry making it impossible to tell if a person was smiling or if things were in focus. I cannot comprehend how this refurbished camera passed inspection with a blurry viewfinder. The quality control on this camera was extremely negligent and with respect to the inspector who passed it, an updated eye exam would be appropriate. Overall the camera, if it were working properly appears to be a fine unit. For that reason and the fact that my two previous cameras that I liked were Canon, I am returning it for a replacement, hopefully without any defects.

With the classically stylish PowerShot SX20 IS, you can produce magnificent HD movies and dazzling photos. Loaded with features, it's got a high-powered 20x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, 12.1 Megapixels, a big 2.5-inch Vari-Angle LCD, Blink Detection and more
The PowerShot SX20 IS is equipped with a 20x Optical Zoom lens with a focal length of 5.0 - 100mm (35mm equivalent: 28 - 560mm) thatallows you to shoot any scene from wide-angle to telephoto. The camera uses a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for high-speed, quiet, energy-efficient lens movement with precise control. Focal length is conveniently indicated on the lens barrel.
The lens is optimized to fully exploit its zoom length and wide shooting angle in concert with the camera's high 12.1 Megapixel resolution. UD glass effectively suppresses chromatic aberration, while enhanced negative refractive power ensures that distortion at the wide-angle is also corrected. Further aberration is controlled with the inclusion of a double-sided aspherical glass-molded lens and ultra-high refraction index lens
The SX20 IS is equipped with Canon's acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake-one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer Technology is convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.
If you long for the convenience of an advanced still camera that also creates superb movies, the new PowerShot SX20 IS lets you record video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor. You'll enjoy the HD experience with no degradation of image or audio in the signal, plus the ability to display up to 130 thumbnails at once.
Just set the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS to Smart AUTO and you're ready for maximum enjoyment from your picture taking every time. It's a relaxing and satisfying way to shoot because you can completely concentrate on your subject knowing that the camera has the technical details covered. Advanced Canon technology intelligently analyzes your situation and shooting conditions. Then it automatically selects an appropriate setting from 22 specially defined settings. So whether you're photographing flowers, a captivating sunset, or your friends at the park, you can be confident that you're getting dramatic, memorable images.
Advanced presets for the best possible photos under certain conditions. With 24 Shooting Modes, you're ready for whatever shot comesyour way:
