JMJ Canon PowerShot sx50hs 3 or 4 years old. I bought this primarily for movies. Can hear the zoom in the audio. Daylight outdoors, sometimes loses focus while following a runner. Video indoors daytime light coming through windows, plus indoor lighting on, loses focus while moving. So far haven't found the lux rating. Since it's not for professional use, family, and price, it pretty much does what I bought it for. But it has it's moments. Operator error as well. Need a low light camera.

I am so in love with this camera. Have had it a few years now and have amazing wildlife photos now, shots that I mourned in the olden days because my little point and shoot could not zoom that far, or because cannot set up telephoto fast enough to catch. so easy to use, and super amazing zoom in a tiny package.

something like the fourth one I have owned in this series. I have been a photographer for 35 years. I have owned a lot more equipment. As one ages you have to make changes. This camera gives me the quality printed picture I like without a lot of extra weight. I have arthritis in both hands so manipulating a lot of lens is not for me. I actually entered the photography show at the fair this year. I entered 8 pictures and got ribbons on all of them. Several of them blue. They where all made with this camera. I have had several pics featured on the About website a few years back. I believe those where made with the 40. Which is also an excellent camera. My goal is to get the 60 and pass this 50 down to hubby. He wants to set a shutter release so he can take picture of wildlife. The 40 I will pass on to my budding photographer son.

I purchased the SX50 to take the place of my T2i as a general purpose camera. I have used it on game drives in Africa and fishing trips on the Amazon. It's next trip is to Kilimanjaro.

I have owned this camera for over 2 years and it has traveled to Africa, South America and Europe with me. The zoom range of 24-1,200mm is amazing, and the quality of the images are wonderful. You have to use good technique when shooting at the longer zoom range so sharp clean images are the result. I have found if I set my f stop to 7.1 when shooting at the 1,000-1,200 range, my images are nice and sharp. Once you learn the capabilities of this camera you will be very pleased with the results. I find the accessibility of the exposure comp and macro buttons very useful. I am very happy as well that Canon has kept the video button right where it is quick to hit with my thumb, along with allowing the feature of snapping a still shot while recording. And the image stabilization works very well. I have been very happy with the quality of images even at high ISO's (800 and at times beyond. The saturation of color is very nice as well. And one of the best features is the articulating LCD screen. Once you use this screen at all it's available angles to get interesting and creative images, you won't consider another camera without this feature! For the next generation of this wonderful camera, I would enjoy an easy panorama mode that didn't require post processing and a longer zoom range would be over the top amazing! In conclusion: this camera produces terrific results, it's fun to use, the zoom range is WONDERFUL, and the size and weight is such that you won't ever think twice about carrying it around at all times.

This camera has tremendous range. If, like me, you are a baseball, soccer, or football fan,, this camera lets you get shots of daytime games that you could only get from the sidelines 10 years ago. It focuses fast and almost always accurately. It is great for shots of the moon. It is pretty good for street photography. It is very good for bird watching. It is a very versatile camera.

My Canon SX50HS is frequently used with a handheld steadycam to take video in often low light conditions. The steadycam stabilizes the foundation of the camera, so as to minimize jerkiness of the hand while walking or turning. This accessory yields the flowing movement typically seen in movies and professional video. BUT - The steadycam requires a counterweight that is often twice the weight of the camera. It gets heavy! Consequently, it is desirable to get as much function - as much light sensitivity - as much flexibility in the lens and timing - in the lowest weight possible. At half a Kg for the SX50HS, this means 1 and a half Kg to potentially hold at arms length for minutes at a time during a long shoot. If it were the typical DSLR, the total weight could be 2-3 Kg or more. Purchased as a refurb, direct from Canon, at super discount, there is no other camera in it's price range that gives as much function per kilogram as the SX50HS.

This camera is feature packed, one must go online to study the manual in order to learn and try out the various functions. Been shooting with the 6D and 60D with L lenses for the past years and it is a totally different feel shooting with this camera. It seems to have a mindset of its own. The function dial is too closely constructed that the various functions seem to pop up at will if you are not careful with your finger placement. The zoom is tremendous but is difficult to shoot hand held given the lightness of the camera. The pictures' quality are no match for the DSLR's despite the RAW capability. In conclusion, it is still a point-and-shoot, no matter how well it is intended..

I have enjoyed this camera so much that I bought another one this year. I have another SX50HS, bought in 2014 and this one in 2015. and gave my son my SX40HS because I guess three similar cameras would have been too much ...HA! They take wonderful pictures and are as versatile as anyone has the right to hope for.

I have since used my Canon in Africa, Europe, South America and here in the States. It takes wonderful images, and with the proper technique using a tripod or bean bag - on the long end of the zoom range, my images are sharp. I also found that I need to set the F-stop at 7 to ensure sharp images at the 1,200mm end. I have always enjoyed the freedom the articulating LCD screens allow, especially for Macro work. It really allows you to be creative. The button for starting and stoping video capture at anytime is very convenient. Along with the quick access to exposure compensation and ISO. All necessary for keeping up with changing subjects and situations. The one thing that I wish could be improved upon in a future model is the range in which macro operated in. When dealing with insects, it would be helpful not to have to be right on top of them in order to fill the frame. A much useful working distance would be 4-7", then zooming in. This might be too much to ask from such a long zoom range, but it would be lovely if it could happen. Overall I am very happy with my Canon and look forward to the next model that will bring me from 24-2,000mm.

Product is by far the best. I wanted a second camera to shoot without spending tons of money reviewed this camera and just got great feed back, but was taken back at how great it is I believed the reviews but to actually see it in action made me put down my 7D for a moment. This camera is worth the money you spend I recommend it, it won't replace my DSLR 7D but for other angels while shooting with the 7D I see myself having it for a while.

Have been looking for an easy, point and shoot camera that takes great close-ups and produces good color, even when taking in direct sunlight! This camera has a zoom of 50X, and all the settings you could want, but I put it on automatic, set it, and have gotten the BEST pictures of flowers, birds, butterflies, AND long shots too. It adjusts to everything perfectly -- Hopefully I can keep this camera forever -- thsnks!!!

This is a fantastic camera. I take a ton of pictures and have used many different cameras, SLR and point and shoot. This camera rivals more expensive cameras. The ease of an all in one, the 50x zoom and the advanced controls make this a must have camera.

I was replacing another SLR Camera that I had for a long time and had paid 3x as much for when I bought it. I read a lot of reviews about the SX50 hs camera and compared to other cameras it had very high reviews. Watched some videos on its performance and features before buying this camera. Right out of the box it really surprised me with the quality of photographs it takes and transferring images is a breeze directly from the Memory card. loved the heavy feel of the camera to not like a cheap light weight camera. great photos from very close to long zoom. I Highly recommend this camera for any occasion I think you will be very happy with it. I am 70 years old bought a lot of things in my life

Photography is a passionate hobby of mine. I have owned Canon cameras for at least 35 years..since my first Canon AE1..I've dealt with carrying around different lenses and filters. This time I wanted a good "all in one " camera. I found it. This camera has an incredible zoom ( a "see the craters on the moon" zoom and great special effects to play with. The pictures are of excellent quality especially for what is considered a point and shoot camera. I love that it can be either fully automatic or fully manual. It's a nice size and comfortable to hold. I love my SX50 HS.

My son-in-law used this camera on an African Safari and I was very impressed with his imagery - this is especially true since he is an inexperienced photographer. I have been needing (wanting a small "carry everywhere" camera which produces decent imagery and has a fairly wide focal range. I visited a local cemetery for a Memorial Day dedication and did not feel like lugging a DSLR with a couple of lenses. I decided that this would be the camera I should have had and purchased the SX50 HS as soon as I arrived home from the ceremony... It is mandatory for my camera to have an eye level viewfinder and to be able to capture RAW imagery. This model fills both requirements. I realize that at longer focal lengths, the aperture is fairly small so I will use a tripod/monopod when shooting at those longer focal lengths. However for short to medium focal lengths, the IS capability is all I need. The HSS capability is another plus for this little camera. I plan to match this with a Canon 270EXii Speedlite...

I purchased one if these and you cannot tell the difference from the new ones. How do I know? Because I had bought new one a while back and paid hundreds more. I just could not pass this deal up! It is a very powerful camera with up to 200X combined zoom, 50X optical and 4X digital. With some practice you can really get professional looking pictures. Be sure to read and read and re-read the manual this has many many features and it might be easy to get overwhelmed...but then there is Auto mode! Seriously if your looking for a powerful camera at a fraction of the price do not pass this up. As a side note I also purchased the extended 3 year warranty so I have no worries for 3 years too.

I have been looking for an easy to use camera with a great zoom for documenting my bird sightings. After much researching I decided on the Canon Sx50 HS. It has done exactly what I needed it to do. Pictures are great and it is easy to review photos and to down load photos.

Great carry around camera
By jmistudio
This a great all in one carry around camera. I also own the older SX1 and SX40HS, and this camera improves on both. The SX1 has a 35mm equivalent 24-560mm lens, has great image quality, great video, and shoots RAW files, but the downfall in my view was AA batteries which had a very short useful life (relative to a Lithium Ion battery and always seemed to die at the wrong moment. There was no battery charge indicator other than an "idiot" light that would flash as the battery died. Then a few...

I wanted a great camera and bought a Nikon. Had it for a week when I realized I really liked some of the features and thought maybe I could get more features for the money I spent. I returned the Nikon and bought this gem. LOVE it. Since then I bought the 70d but still use this camera when I don't want to carry the larger one. Also my Grandson likes taking pictures so I let him used this one.
The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Digital Camera is the world's first compact digital camera with a 50x optical zoom lens. The impressive focal length range extends all the way from a wide-angle 24mm to a super-telephoto 1200mm (35mm equivalent). The camera has a 12.1MP CMOS image sensor and a DIGIC 5 Image Processor, enabling you to capture high-resolution JPEG and RAW still images, as well as full HD 1080p video with stereo sound. The 2.8" Vari-Angle LCD monitor features a resolution of 461,000 pixels and an electronic viewfinder.
Sensitivity up to ISO 6400 helps the camera produce clear, detailed images even in low-light situations. Optical image stabilization compensates for camera shake in these conditions for crisp, blur-free image quality. High Speed AF provides fast 0.19-sec focusing, improving upon the SX40 HS's 0.38 sec and a reduction in shooting lag time from 0.45 sec (on the SX40 HS) to 0.25 sec to ensure that you don't miss a shot. Zoom Framing Assist Seek and Lock functions make it easy to track your subjects and keep them centered in the frame until you capture the image.
High-Speed Burst HQ enables continuous capture at 13fps for up to 10 frames. Smart AUTO mode automatically chooses the best camera settings for the situation, selecting from 58 predefined scenarios. Face ID adjusts focus and exposure priority based upon up to 12 pre-registered faces. A variety of shooting modes are at your disposal as well, including Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Program, plus Movie Digest for combining a whole day's worth of clips into a video, Stitch Assist for panoramic shots and many more. High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode combines 3 different exposures into one evenly-lit image.
With the camera's built-in hot shoe, you can use optional Canon Speedlite flashes, such as the 270EX II, 320EX and 600EX-RT. Using the included USB cable and the PictBridge interface, one can enjoy the ability to print directly from the camera to a compatible printer without using a computer.
