Great Beginner Camera

This was my first digital camera. Really, this was my first camera ever. I learned EVERYTHING through this lens. Highly recommended if you're just starting out!!! The ISO could not reach over 400 before it got noisy, so shooting weddings and event photography was a problem. During the day time, this camera could do anything a full frame could do.

Great way to get started

I purchased this camera as a way to prove to myself that I was serious about getting back into photography. Snapshots on a phone are just not good enough. It worked. I still use it today with great results. It was a stepping stone to a full-frame 6D Mark II. What are you waiting for?

Love My Camera!

I bought this camera about two years ago and I love it. I used the auto setting at first. Now I use the manual settings after taking a class from a local photographer. I am still learning, but it's getting easier.

Great Camera for a beginner

I've had my camera for about a year and as it's my first dslr, I have found it to deliver some great quality photos and the videos are actually pretty good as well. The strap does get cumbersome at times as it gets in the way when I'm trying to shoot a video but, overall, this camera is a great buy for it's functionality. I'd recommend this camera for anyone whom has any passion towards photography and making short videos.

very nice!

i bought this about two and a half years ago and it has worked perfectly! the photo quality is great and i am very glad with my decision to buy this. However, i was a little surprised when i went and filmed a video and the sound wasn't great. Of course its for photos but i was hoping i could start my career as a videographer too Overall i loved it!!

The camera is great except the strap

There is a group called "Meet Up". There all sorts of hobby/interest groups such as photography. I attended a couple and it was a lot of fun. It was interactive and the instructors remained realistic about the the fact we were all beginners. My only disappointment is with the strap. Given that all the weight of the camera on the neck, I wish more thought was put into the design. I just think there could be a better way. But the camera itself is great.

Great quality for the price

Simple, yet effective. It gets the job done for the price. There are of course improvements that could be made, but that would require a steeper price. It has everything an entry level photographer needs. I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. I have had no problems with it and enjoy it greatly. Thank you, Canon

Awesome for a beginner

My girlfriend knew I wanted to get into photography so she bought me this for a christmas present. I went into this not having a clue what I was doing but I am slowly learning. The T5 is an excellent entry level camera because it is simpler than the higher end ones. So far I've added a 75-300mm zoom lens and just yesterday and 18-135mm to my camera bag. I plan to use my T5 for at least a year until I can confidently say I know what I'm doing, then I'll upgrade to something better and will be able to take my lenses and accessories with me.

Excellent camera and lenses - worth the price.

I have owned the Rebel T5 for slightly over a year now and did not rate it before until I felt I had sufficient time to use it. I am still learning and expect with the numerous features the T5 includes the learning curve is still in front of me, however now the curve is not nearly as steep and for quite a few months now I actually feel I know what I am doing. For the absolute beginner using the auto mode or auto mode without flash is the best way to start taking pictures and get the satisfaction of being a photographer. Next step is the image zone modes where you actually see differences from strictly automatic. For example sports or moving scenes appear clear, portraits exhibit bokeh and the pictures look as if you know what you are doing. The computer brain behind the T5 is amazing even while the picture taker is still learning to be amazing. Next I went to creative modes; this becomes more challenging but is where you start really learning how to take control. Now I shoot in manual because I have become aware of the basics, and I'm taking more control over the settings and the resulting image. I'm practicing now with different light, additional lenses, speeds, apertures, exposures, focusing techniques so I can learn the T5. The T5 is an excellent entry level camera and I definitely recommend it. If you can afford more money the T6 is newer than the T5 and the T7 is coming out with some newer technology. It is likely if you buy the T5 you will start to wish you spent a little more but then if you buy the T5 and learn all about its capabilities, the money you save now can go to a better upgrade Canon camera beyond entry level. It has been work but is has been fun. The lenses for the entry level cameras (EF-S are very good also. Canon has developed lower cost lenses which you will be pleased with. They are not the optically better L series lenses (professional) but they work very very well. Buying the L series lenses is definitely an option since they will fit on the T5 but there is no hurry- learn the camera and the initial lenses you get. Support from Canon is great. You can speak with a person and they are available until midnight. Email Canon and you get a quick answer even on a holiday. They are knowledgeable and want to help - and they will help. Training videos are offered by Canon, you tube has many specific learning videos for Canon cameras and lenses. There is a wealth of information out there on the internet. Put your time into it, expect to get frustrated at times and YOU WILL LEARN/TEACH YOURSELF to be a photographer. Good luck and ENJOY.

I still cannot figure out how to use it

I watched the videos, I read the booklets. Sorry but none of it made sense to me. But I still have no idea how to take a picture. My last Camera was a Cannon 35mm, easy to use, lovely photos. But with this one I am lost. It is hard to rate because maybe I am just too stupid to use it.

Needed a new camera

I needed a new camera, the last camera I had was a Canon film SLR I bought in 1971. I bought this camera in 2015 because I knew the name and the quality would be there. This is the first digital camera I've owned and it works just fine. I live near Disneyland in California and have taken tons of photos with the Canon. If a 68 year old can take photos, with this camera, that look ALMOST professional then anyone can.

Great camera at a great price point!

My teenage daughter is taking photography classes and loving it. She told us all she wanted for Christmas was a good DSLR. We bought the Canon T5 for her and she has already fallen in love with it! Great camera: versatile, functional and affordable! She will be using this one for many projects! As a film editor I was pleasantly surprised with the video quality as well!

Cannon fan and keeping it that way

I've always been a fan of cannon cameras. Had a couple of film cameras in the past. I got this one for my girlfriend for Christmas. The bundle was probably the best deal on the market at the time. Got close to 600$ worth of stuff for 400. The body is solid and the lens is excellent. ($) for this camera was a deal in itself (everywhere else was at least ($) the carrying case was a great addition most of all. Everything included fits right into it!

The camera I need

Bought this camera about 2 months ago to record life events and to take pictures of my Scroll saw art. Before buying I read other reviews and still found this camera to exceed my expectations. The pictures come out sharp and clear and the battery has a long life...
