I bought this scanner to replace a 10-year old Hewlett Packard that finally failed. The Epson scans are much better than on the old machine, although I realize now, it's partly my fault for setting resolution too low on the HP. Still, I find the scans from the Epson to be excellent. I'd like to upload one here as a sample, but will not try because when I tried before, it crashed the upload. That much said, the file size needed to achieve these results is somewhat staggering. Scanning old film prints yields about a 5 MB file. I guess that's why the results look as good as shots taken on large format with a Canon DSLR. Same file size = same resolution. This is just using the scanner's default. If I go to the pro level and set the resolution much higher, I wind up with 20 MB files. That, to me, is not acceptable, so I am sticking with the default. What I really have a problem with is the occasional times I want to scan text files. (I mean, not technically text files - that is, .txt - but scanning some document I receive in the mail which I want to keep digitally so as not to clutter my paperless-as-possible home office. This Epson gives me a 20 MB file from a 1-PAGE DOCUMENT. It takes forever to complete the scan, and although the result is picture perfect, I really don't need that much quality and especially that file size for such document. I guess I could play with the controls and get the resolution down, but I haven't tried that yet. Anyway, if it does work, it's a hassle. So I recommend this scanner for photos, not for text. Maybe that's what Epson intended. After all, it's called a photo scanner. Just keep it in mind when you are considering a purchase. If you expect to use it solely or almost only for photos, then it will do a great job for a very attractive price. If you plan to scan much text, then this machine may not be for you.

I was looking for a good all around scanner. This one does more and better then I ever expected. Fantastic value for the price. Being able to scan in some of my old slides or 35mm negatives from the old days is wonderful. It takes a little time to scan those "extras" but I think the outcome is great! Remember always the price you start to compare!

On the up side the twain interface works quite well and I am surprised at how well scanned slides look. The light source doesn't have to warm up so it is ready to scan as soon as you turn it on. On the down side the software could be easier to use. I have not found out how to rotate images through the user interface.

This unit has a low profile and big features, including very good software. Plug and play if you wish or go to professional mode and get involved in the process.

Have used Epson scanners and printers for years. When my Father passed my Mother found nearly 2000 35mm slides taken by my Dad. I owned a Perfection 636U at the time. It still worked well, but had no capacity for slide scanning and was about 4 OS iterations back. I had to futz with the drivers to get it to work with Win7. I bought the V300 for it's ability to handle slides and scanned the whole lot in several days. The color and light corrections provided in the software worked great. Some of the slides were well over 60 years old and the V300 did an excellent job of reproducing them. Getting those slides digitized in the quality the V300 produced made the purchase more than worthwhile.

Used scanner for my wedding slide show. It was easy to use. I'm happy with the quality it produces for the amount I spent.

I use it on my desk's right half and the location of the control buttons at the right corner is a bit uncomfortable for me. The lid opens to the right and buttons are at the right corner. If you place the scanner in an area to the left of your keyboard, the buttons are OK but lid's hinges would be on that same side and placing documents on the glass is a challange. Every other aspect of this scanner is great. I love the quality and speed of the unit. My old Perfection 1200 worked for almost 10 years and had to be retired due to incompatability with Windows 7. I really hope this V300 to perform as well as my old scanner.

After almost 40 plus years,I decided to transfer/scan 900 plus slides and negatives into jpegs. I was quoted about .55 to .85 per slide by a pro shop. This EPSON v300 PHOTO SCANNER was a perfect choice, very simple to operate and much cheaper ..lol . Enjoyed memory lane of my youth
