It features an F/4.5-6.7 maximum aperture, with an f/22 minimum aperture range. Integrated optical image stabilization (OIS) helps minimize the appearance of camera shake works to produce sharper images when working in low-light conditions throughout the zoom range. One aspherical element and one extra-low dispersion element is integrated into the optical design of the lens to help minimize chromatic aberrations while also contributing to high overall image sharpness and clarity. A Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating) has also been applied to the glass elements to further minimize flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast and color neutrality. This lens is value for money. Considering it's price and it's above average performance it is worth an investment. Low light performance isn't the greatest but still acceptable and beyond the focal length of 135 mm sharpness decreases.
I have only used it for three weeks in the Northwest where the sun rarely comes out, so slow shutter and higher ISO was required. Hand held the IS really worked well. I also have a 35mm f1.4 that I use with my X-E2, so comparing edge sharpness should have been distingtly better with the 35mm, but it was not. The IQ is way beyond what I was expecting. Amazing! It's a keeper and I really recommend it.
What a surprise! I was not expecting this XC lens to be so good. I got this lens for my X-E2, which came with the XF 18-55mm f2.8 lens. I also got the XF 35mm f1.4. I found it interesting that the XC 50-230 set at 35mm produced photos that were very close to the more expensive 35mm f1.4. At 100%, they are equal. The difference at 400% enlargement is noticeably falling off on the edges, but I really don't care. My photos are not for wall-size enlargements. It would be rare if I used it for night shots, so daytime use at f6.7 is fine. I do not find the absence of an aperture ring a limitation. I do find that the image stabilization works quite well. I really can't say enough good things about this lens. It is very light and small considering that you get the effect of a 350mm lens. My friends with their Canon/Nikon 300mm lenses are carrying a lot of unnecessary extra weight for amateur photographers.
