About Fujifilm X-T1

The Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens features a 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor to produce high-resolution imagery with an expandable sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 as well as a top continuous shooting rate of 8 fps. Fujifilm's proprietary X-Trans sensor uses a unique randomized pixel array in order to avoid the use of a resolution-reducing optical low-pass filter, therefore providing images with the utmost sharpness and clarity. This imaging system is benefitted by the Intelligent Hybrid AF system, which uses both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly and accurately. Enhanced manual focusing capabilities are also a result of these technologies; Digital Split Image and Focus Highlight Peaking are two methods for quickly and precisely determining focus using intelligent focusing aids for improved control and optimized efficiency.

For image monitoring, review and menu navigation, both a 2,360k-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3.0" 1,040k-dot tilting LCD screen are available. The body design extends this versatility through the implementation of manual, physical control dials on the top plate of the camera as well as customizable buttons and a Q Menu button for expedited access to some of the most useful settings. This control scheme further enables an intuitive built-in Wi-Fi system for direct sharing of imagery to an Android or iOS mobile device for instant sharing online.

Full HD 1080p movie recording in multiple frame rates is possible and a 2.5mm microphone input permits the use of an optional external microphone for improved audio quality with recordings. Full-time continuous focusing is supported while taking video, also, as well as the use of Film Simulation modes. Film Simulation modes make use of Fujifilm's history of producing both negative and slide films and allow you to apply those films' characteristics to your digital imagery to better suit your intended look.

Included with the X-T1 is the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens; a standard zoom lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-84mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. This lens integrates optical image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake to benefit working with longer shutter speeds or greater focal lengths and a linear motor-drive AF system provides fast, smooth focusing capabilities.

The EVF makes this possible by showing you exactly what your image will look like before you snap the shutter. Never again will you waste a shot by fiddling with the exposure triangle. When you raise or lower a setting the results are shown immediately, before you press the shutter. All the other perks you have read about are there and are as advertised. No need to retread that ground. My pictures are better looking and I feel more connected to them because I have complete control. The reason is the X-T1. Just make sure you get a spare battery.

Sure, the Fuji has some compelling features, like a rotating settings view in the viewfinder, among others. But not enough to overcome the glaring differences in shutter release sensitivity and auto focus speed. From the few images I made, I thought the image quality indistinguishable from the Oly. Granted, I did not make a very exacting comparison, just the side-by-side with both cameras for the same subject. I also could tell that the in-camera image stabilization on the Oly seems to be better than the in-lens system on the Fuji. I returned it for a refund.

Overall a very good camera

By

from Las Vegas  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

I sold my Fujifilm X100S and bought this X-T1. I was sick of waiting for Fujifilm's next-gen sensor/processor body and their current- gen sensor/processor combo isn't that bad, so I picked this up as a bridge camera. I really wanted to start using Fuji's lenses and this body was currently the best option. This camera, like the X100S, captures fantastic images the IQ is amazing. You just have to remember that it isn't "DSLR Fast". That's fine for me because I'm a more deliberate photographer and at least 90% of my shoots are planned, staged or prepared for in advance. Now having said that this isn't a slow camera, you can get most of the shots you want with it. Another big plus is, like the X100S the X-T1 is great in Low Light. I guess even better because you can use Fuji's awesome fast primes.

I carry this camera everywhere!

By

from NYC  -  Photo Enthusiast

I lightened up my kit by moving to the Fujifilm X-T1 and am very happy. Living in NYC I wanted a camera that I would want to always have at my side - the X-T1 is the perfect city camera. It's light, does not stand out and is as capable as my DSLR. Actually, it's more capable, because it is my go-to camera! I use it for street photography, nature and family photographs. I have taken several portraits and look forward to taking more! The firmware update late 2014 took care of many of the issues/complaints that were floating around. I would have to dig a bit to find any substantial criticism, or complaints. I highly recommend the X-T1 and am stoked to be a part of the Fujifilm X Family!

Makes the wonderful X-T1 even better

By

from Trevor, WI  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

The X-T1 is an amazing camera. The only issue was the grip for me. I added a Lensmate thumb grip to the hotshoe, it helped, but still felt like I needed more. The X-T1 battery grip might add something for portraits, but I got this camera to NOT be my Canon 5D Mark III. Don't want to add too much to it. That said, this grip did not add much weight and made it PERFECT for what I needed. I wear a 2XL glove. Hands big enough to palm a basketball with ease. Adding this large grip is just what the doctor ordered. The other bonus is the arca swiss plate built in. Worth the cost to me. Fujifilm is making some great products.

Not a Good Match

By

from Phx, AZ

I bought the XT1 to use as my primarily kit to take family pictures instead of carrying around my Nikon D800 and uploading 36mp size files. But after about 1K frames, the Fuji just does not meet my expectations for the way I shoot. I tend to use flash almost as much as do available light and the Fuji has been a disappointment. I knew coming in that the flash sync speed of the XT1 was slow, but the real issue for me is the XT1 will only fire the flash in Single drive mode, so no flashes in C high or C low drive mode. All my cameras are always set to continuous. Also, the XT1's slight shutter lag and slower focus acquire in lower light means more throw aways than I'd like. I'm disappointed because in brighter available light the XT1 IQ is fantastic with few adj in post, form factor and feel is great, fast to use, Wifi to my Android phone is convenient, and the 18-55 kit lens is nice.

Nice Results: Poor Battery Performance

By

from Arlington, TX

The camera performance is very nice and it is a good size to carry about. I took a short trip which was the first time that I had an opportunity to really use it for an extended period. I liked the results. I didn't have grand expectations regarding the battery performance to begin with, but I was surprised and disappointed that I got only 75 shots on the first battery. I was using the view finder rather than back screen to compose shots, no video, no wireless, turned off everything that was optional. This was a laid back, casual shooting day not a sporting event. Replaced the battery with a fresh, charged one and had the same experience with getting a total of 149 shots on two batteries over the span of two days. I had hopes that the X-T1 would be lighter, smaller camera to use for travel but the battery performance makes it a brick. Disappointing.

Wonderful camera

By

from Lacey, WA

After using Nikons for 25 years. It took me 2 days to get use to the EVF. Now that I understand how it works. I really like it. Camera ergonomics. Has the handling qualities of the OM-1 and Leica M3. I paired the camera to the 55-200mm Lens. Only faults so far, battery life (get a spare). Wi-Fi to PC. Will not connect. Cannot change in camera password for designated PC.
