I finally made the jump into digital underwater. Prior to this I was using a Nexus housing for a N90 and Nikonos RS equipment. Even though I had a collection of ports for the Nexus system I went with the Ikelite Housing. My reasons were the ability to do TTL with the Nikon system which Nexus does not offer. And while the housing does that, I am also very happy the provision of a very well thought out set of controls, a easy to use viewfinder and a housing that is well balanced and a joy to use underwater. I was also impressed by their new 8" port system which allows the using of one dome port with different lens by providing inexpensive "port bodies" or spacers for different lenses. A real nice housing that is also very attractively priced.

This housing is an expensive housing for an expensive camera. I would not recommend it if you are just wanting to keep your camera dry. It is too big and bulky for that, however if you are serious about underwater photography and you have a Nikon D200 camera then you need this housing. It is clear so you can see if it is sealed or not and the walls of the housing are 1 to 1.5 inches thick so it is extremely sturdy. Also you are able to control 99% of the functions of the camera with this housing so you can make changes to setting to suit your shot extremely easy.

The heavy duty thick wall dSLR housing is molded of corrosion free clear polycarbonate, features full capabilities, and operates safely to 200 feet.
The housing includes conversion circuitry that provides iTTL compatibility for DS-50, DS-80, DS-125 and DS-200 SubStrobes. A push button turns the circuitry off to allow manual strobe operation.
Other strobes can be used, but will not provide iTTL functions of the conversion circuitry. Mount and sync cords for Nikonos and sync cords for Inon or Sea & Sea strobes are available.
All ports from our SLR systems can be utilized, allowing use of most macro, wide angle, and zoom lenses. This system allows you to see that the port is sealed.
The housing "O" ring seal is a masterpiece in fail-safe simplicity compared to designs that require stuffing the "O" ring into a groove. You can see that the "O" ring is sealed.
The Release Handles allows easy attachment and removal of SubStrobe mounting arms at the touch of a button. Two screws remove the handle and tray assembly for traveling
AE/AF lock button can be activated with your thumb while holding the handle, but the Metering selector surrounding the AE/AF button is not provided. Control for front FUNC button can also operate the depth of field preview. Lens Release and Flash Compensation buttons are provided.
"Stay depressed" control operates the White Balance, ISO and Qual functions on top left of camera body, but the Mode dial under these buttons is not provided. Focus-mode (C/S/M) selector can be changed with a little finesse. A control is even provided to open the Card slot cover latch, and the tray is notched, allowing battery and card replacement without removing the camera from the tray.
The housing size and weight provides neutral buoyancy and superb handling underwater. Camera installation is quick and simple. The dependable controls are conveniently placed at your fingertips, and kept water tight with Ikelite pioneered Quad-Ring seal glands proven to be the most reliable method for sealing controls.
The Ikelite Super-Eye magnifier provided with the housing offers enhanced viewing while wearing a diving mask.
