Delivers on Its Promises

By

from Cleveland, OH  -  Photo Enthusiast

This item was purchased Used-EXC condition and came in even better condition than advertised. It came with the elaborate original packaging and all cables and books; these were not even mentioned on the site as included so it was a very nice surprise. The price was remarkably low and less than the same item from similar e-vendors. The camera itself functions perfectly and exactly as various independent reviews report. Image quality is very good to excellent from the non-interchangeable 35mm-equivalent lens and sometime produces that magical "Leica look." The camera lacks video or Wi-Fi and has slow AF;but I was aware of all these factors before I bought it. It is more compact than it appears in illustration, is not truly point-and-shoot, but is a quality item for thoughtful picture-taking. And you can say you own a real Leica!!!!!

Leica X1

By

from Brooklyn, NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

I got this camera a while back because I just wanted a...LEICA! That red dot. I put it to good use and really enjoyed it while I had it for a few months. I carried it just about everywhere in a waist pouch or in my jacket pocket. The lens is quite nice and renders some fantastic images. I surely have some keepers from this camera. However, after a while I just wanted...something else? After a while I wanted the ability to change lenses. You can't do this with the Leica X1. I knew this prior to my purchase but didn't think it'd be a burden in the future. Maybe categorizing it as a burden is being a bit harsh, but - reading all about Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens systems after the X1 came out was a real tease. For a portable camera, the X1 has relatively poor build quality in my opinion. It felt very plastic and cheap for something "Made In Germany." After a few months of use - after putting up with the cheap build quality while hoping nothing would happen to it through my rigorous every-day carry/use, the pop-up flash eventually got stuck in an open position. This is when i decided it was time to sell the camera and...move on.I purchased this camera when it first came out at it's introductory (HIGH!) price point and it seems to still sell for over $____.____, which is...still...quite high for what you get. You get the Leica name, a red dot, and a Leica lens...but, something was always missing for me: like a real red dot.

My Second Leica X1

By

from Kapaa, HI  -  Photo Enthusiast

This is my second X1 (from Adorama). I used the first one for about 9 months and then sold it to wait for X100 from Fuji. But as I began to follow the early reviews my interest in X100 cooled. It does have an elaborate dual VF, but it is heavier and larger than X1. Most importantly my impression of the reviews of X100 is that it is complicated and does not take better pictures than X1. X1 IQ is everything one expects from a Leica! I used a Voigtlander 35mm finder on my 1st X1 very successfully but I sold it too. I waited a few months to be sure, and then giving up on X100, I bought this, my second Leica X1 and another Voigtlander 35mm finder. In the meantime Chinese (via [...]) had made accessory tubes for X1. I use one of them with Marumi achromat close up lenses to get fine close-ups, much closer than the closest focus of X1 without. My second one is black and i like it better than the original finish. This one is a keeper; I don't care what else comes out!
