Questions & Answers

Shopper : is this D-76 compatible?CYNTHIA K : yesJOHN M : Yes.BRADY B : D-76 could be considered a reference-developer: It strikes a balance between getting the maximum speed out of the film (i.e. making sure the less exposed areas still hold detail), keeping grain to an acceptable size, and giving the image nice micro-contrast (acuity). It is compatible with just about any black-and-white film that is designed for continuous-tone, pictorial use. It's the all-rounder among b/w developers. -- So the short answer is yes.ANDREW R : Most black and white films (except for C-41 chromogenic types) should work with D-76 (or Ilford's version; ID-11). FP-4 should be no different. Ilford does include suggested (initial) processing times for FP-4 + using D-76 in their literature.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DONALD M : I am an Ilford fan, FP4 Plus is in the speed range I wanted to get more options for exposure, and Adorama had the best price.THOMAS TILDEN D : Good reviews. I want to try it.GEORGE B : Low-medium speed film with great contrast. I like the look of traditional grain over the T-grain films.JOSEPH B : It is beautiful b&w film.Homer B : history with itCHRISTOPHER K : Dynamic range, tones.David B : I like the smaller ISO and only 24 esposures.Jeffrey W : A go-to fine grained black and white film.Robert F : I use 1940s cameras and find the Ilford film easiest to use.MARISA H : Experimenting with Different FilmREINER V : Great reputationDavid K : My current goto film for general shooting.RICHARD C : I've used Ilford films for decades. I wanted a true b&w film. Excellent fine grain medium speed film. I don't like the colorless c41 process color/b&w film that you find in drugstores. Too bad Kodak filed for bankruptcy. They also made great b&w film 'back in the day'.

Can't go wrong with this one

One of my favorite black and white films, very fine grain, not too contrasty but with enough contrast in good lighting conditions. Subtle tonality and usable for many subjects.

Going Back to Film

I would definitely recommend this product. I purchased this ISO 125 speed black and white film to load into my Nikon N6006 film camera. I wanted to see if film is better than digital, now that I know more about taking photographs. The photos came out great and I may now go back to film.

i like fp4+

This is my personal view, you can find all technical details easily. Film is made by Ilford and i don't have to say anything else. In my humble opinion, the best films available on market these days are made by Ilford. I use fp4+ in medium and large format from years. My only regret is that I can't photograph more.

Smooooooooooth

FP4+ has become my go-to medium speed B&W film for portraits, especially in 120 roll film and 4x5, where the tones really shine. Its ability to render the transition zones between light and shadow has the smoothest gradients (to my eyes) of any film I've used. Great stuff!

Its safe to experiment

First time with this film on a Minolta SRT201 w/ functional light meter. Blacks are really vivid and the grain is subtle even in harsh light situations within the foreground. I will soon do a portrait shoot with this film (indoors) with one light on the model.

Absolutely terrific film..for everything

By JAMES G.

I have been using FP4..in 35mm, 120 and 4x5 sheet film sizes for over twenty years now, developing in Acufine and have consistently been getting excellent results. Good tonality, sharpness and fine grain all the time. Afterall..my 20 years of loyalty to this marvelous film speaks for itself....!!!!

Exceptional Film

By callmeBe

This film is today's standard by which all B&W films are measured (in landscape photography). This film can be pushed 2 stops without adding appreciably to graininess, and processes well with many types of developers. (It will be your developer that limits it's ability to expand--rather than the film)! For pyro fans, this film is just about perfect--with slightly less stain than several other films on the market, but the ability to push much further (which more than makes up for that slight l...
