Questions & Answers

micheal c : Will this work with an older Nikon D 90 DSLR?IVAN C : No, It will not work. Nikon 1 lenses have different lens mount and they will only mount on Nikon 1 cameras like Nikon 1 V1, V2, and the J series. If you want to use similar focal length on your Nikon D90 DSLR camera you have very good options like Nikkor 55-200VR or 55-300 VR.C R : No, this lens is only compatible with the Nikon 1 series cameras.RUDOLF L : No, the D90 uses the regular Nikon F Mount and this is the new and much smaller CX mount. EVORELL F : No, this is only for the Nikon 1 series so it only works with the new CX mount type. RICHARD G : No, this won't work with the D90 as the lens mount is different/smaller.CHUCK C : No, the flange is different.Timothy H : I do not believe it will - should only work on the Nikon 1 Series bodies.SCOTT W : No, this lens is designed for the Nikon 1 series of Mirrorless cameras. You can't use these Nikon 1 lenses on a DSLR, but you can use DSLR lenses on the Mirrorless camera bodies like the V1 with the available FTP lens adaptor.PHILLIP M : No, it is a completely different format that is not backwards compatible. There is an adapter for F-mount lenses but these are CX lenses that only cover about half the DX frame at best and they are designed to mount much closer to the lens than is possible on a DX or FX camera.RICHARD C : No. The 30-110 lens in question is only for the Nikon 1 series cameras. The Nikon 1 series uses a different camera mount.JESUS A : Sorry, Michael. This lens has a different mount altogether for a mirrorless system. It's a nice lens for the Nikon 1 platform. I would recommend other Nikon AF-S lenses that are refurbished that will work with the D90. I hope that helps.Gail C : No, the lens is not designed for the D90. The lens mounts are totally different. DAVID G : Sorry, but I do not know the answer to that question. The Nikon 1 is the only Nikon I own.SHUBHAM C : NO. Nikon 1 is totally different system that the DSLRs.SHELBY C : No. This is a C-mount lens made for Nikon's 1 system cameras, not ASP-C like a Nikon D90. Look at a Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED Lens instead. It covers a very similar range and works with the D90.RENEE D : I'm sorry I don't know . I bought it for a nikon j1 cameraCHIANG Y : No. This is a C mount lens and D90 takes F mount. You can mount a F mount lens on a Nikon 1 w/ a FT1 adapter. But I don't know any adapter that allows C mount lenses on DX, (e.g. D90) or FX cameras.ROBERT H : No this lens is for the Nikon 1 mirrorless system.STEPHANIE B : No, it is the wrong size. You need Nikkor DX lenses.Peter P : No, the lens will not work with a D90. The lens is situated too close to the sensor on the Nikon 1 to work with a D90.WFO_OFFROAD W : No this lens will only work on a Nikon 1. The Nixon 1 lens are made specifically for the Nixon 1 cameras. Even if you used a lens adapter, you would loose all ability to focus the camera
Julian S : Can you please expand on the refurbishment? Why was it necessary and what was done? Thanks, JulianWILHELM K : Hi Julian! Please forgive my english, it is not my first language. I did not understand what you mean with the word expand; I did not send this lens to refurbish, so I do not know why this lens was fixed. I do have a good experience with refurbished items, no complains at all. Lens works very well and looks like a new lens. I understand that refurbish is done at Nikon, so I think this company will not send an item to market if it is not working perfectly. In my opinion, I recommend refurbished equipment. Regards, WilhelmWFO_OFFROAD W : Refurbished lens in my experience are lens that have been purchased and then returned after some use for all kinds of reasons. Maybe user was seeing artifices using the lens, didn't get the view the user was looking for and so on. The manufacturer in this case Nikon, will then verify the lens is in operating condition, clean up the appearance of the exterior and the glass of the lens in side and out and make the lens look and operator as close to a manufacturers new lens then resell the lens as a refurb. I personally look for refurb cameras and lens just because in my experience the quality is there just as a new lens or camera. As long as its a manufacture refurb, there is normally a warranty attached to the lens just like buying a new lens, the warranty is just usually shorter then a new one. I have purchased the refurb 30-110 lens and love it. I find my self using it more than my 10-30 when out and about. The only thing I have noticed on my 30-110 refurb lens is how it rotates. It tighter and takes a little more effort to turn to zoom in and out. But this is compared to a used camera I purchased that has a used 10-30 lens and this could just be that my 10-30 lens is wearing out or the 30-110 lens is suppose to be tighter so you can get a more precise zoom with out chance of bumping it and changing the zoom.Julian S : Thanks, my mistake, I thought I was asking Adorama.STEPHANIE B : I was not provided with this information on the the refurbished lens I purchased. Adormam or Nikon staff would have to answer this.
HOWARD M : Is this lens compatible with the Olympus EP-2 micro four thirds camera? If so do you lose any functions?ROBERT S : Sharp wide open, good contrast, quick focus, VR works well, small, light weightWFO_OFFROAD W : I do not think this lens would be compatible with the Olympus. The mounting type for this lens is the Nikon 1 mounting system. There may be adapters that can change your Olympus lens mount to a Nikon 1 lens mount but that would have to be researched. I can however say, this lens for the Nikon does not have a manual focus function on it. I'm not sure where the camera does the focusing, so even with a lens adapter from the Olympus to the Nikon, you may not be able to focus the lens. I know with other lens I have purchased for my Nikon 1 camera, any non Nikon 1 lens that uses a lens adapter such as a T mount, these lens are all manual focus and manual zoom. Hope this helps!JAMES M B : Sorry, I have no idea. I bought the lens to use with Nikon V1.ANDREW R : Unfortunately no, this lens is compatible with the Nikon 1 series only and is not Micro 4/3 compatible.

Just like the big boys'..But compact' A very sweet camera and lens system

This is an excellent lens and does an excellent job in the parameters that it was designed for. Crystal clear and excellent zoom magnification without distortion. Light weight and compact. Fast shooting with the new J 4. I have waited for several years for the J4 camera and the matching lens. I miss the 35MM film SLR cameras and lens systems. Nikon has hit the bulls eye with this camera and lens system. I have 4 Digital cameras. As A semi pro, I The J4 is more tnen capable of professional work. I am smiling again, I have true creativity, once again... THANKS NIKON'....

Perfect for my use

I think this is a very good match the astonishing and amazing Nikon 1 V2 camera. There is just enough zoom to reach out for most everyday pics. I wish it was a little bit faster at max zoom of action shots, but I can live with this now that I am aware of the limitation. It is a good companion for my 10-30mm and 18.5mm f/1.8 lenses. The combination of these three will cover most of my immediate needs for portraits, nature, grandchildren in action and urban scenes. Surprisingly, low light shots are quite impressive when the camera is stable. I can already see that only one or two additional lenses will round out my camera bag. This is going to be a good year of photography!

Not Blown away, Not Disappointed

This seems to be the comparable "telephoto" lens to the nikon 55-200mm lens for the entry level dslr cameras. the 30-110mm lens is about the same comparable zoom that you would get out of a point and shoot digital zoom camera but this is all optical which is much clearer. for the price, it is not a bad lens and definitely a must have for the nikon 1 series cameras. I would recommend this lens for closer zoom situations but it is certainly not great for taking a picture of a bird at the top of a tree. overall, a great lens for the price (around 160.00 on ebay) but a bit disappointing in the zoom aspect.

Not a 'long shot'

Fantastic lens at a fantastic price! My husband is my 'researcher' and found Adorama to have the best price on the internet or stores for this lens. It is easy to attach to the camera body, easy to operate and I get wonderful pictures 'up close'. It will be a blessing at my daughter's graduation in May. The only drawback is that I have a beige camera and the lens didn't come in beige but the white isn't a problem, you barely notice the body and lens aren't the same color.

Fantastic lens to use with electronic shutter on Nikon 1 V2

I bought this lens primarily to shoot birds in flight since my Nikon 1 V2 doesn't do a good job in that regard with the FT-1 adapter. It is simply outstanding for this purpose. I have been using the electronic shutter at 15, 30 and 60 frames per second and have gotten wonderful results capturing birds in flight. This lens focuses lightning fast and with the high frame rate of the V2 it is possible to capture 'the right moment' as a bird is flying past or landing. I really love the small size of this lens when coupled with the V2...the viewfinder on the V2 is worth the extra money....especially if you are used to shooting with a DSLR. My other two cameras are a D800 and a D7000. Highly recommend this lens for birding and nature. If Nikon ever made a 100-300mm zoom for the Nikon 1 system I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Very Sharp

I like the look of the red lens on the black J1 body. I have used it at a gymnastics practice and was pleased with the shapness. The 300 mm lens equivalent in a small light weight package is impressive.

PERFECT!

I had bought this lens to supplement the wide-angle zoom that came with the V1; it is a perfect complement to the supplied lens. It appeared to be brand-new; no one would have suspected it was refurbished. Perfect!

Cool lens at a great price!

I just got this lens as a gift after getting a red J1 refurbished. Seems like there is controversy over the 1 system - here's my take... Take the time to learn how to use the camera! Seems common sense I know, but understanding how to get to the right settings quickly could change ones perception of a product. I've used this lens for both static landscapes and moving objects (kids). I've been very pleased with the results. Focus is fast and quiet- and the lens is compact but feels well constructed. That being said my point of comparison is a Nikon D600 with a Nikon 70-300 VR. Better setup? Perhaps - but much heavier and bulky when out and about wrangling kids. If you don't get tied down in comparisons I believe you will find this lens to be a worthy addition to your camera bag.

Like new at a fraction of the cost

This was just what I was looking for. I purchased a used Nikon 1 body and wanted a lens to go with it till the FT-1 lens adapter came in. It was inexpensive and checked out by Nikon. I've purchase Nikon refurbished equipment before and am very pleased w/ them.

Great Buy!

I hardly ever write a review but I found this site after searching for this lens in red & could not find it through any regular camera dealers or on Nikon. Came packaged great, no problems at all and saved a few hundred dollars! I will come to this site again for future purchases.

Referbished Nikkor for Mirror-less Nikon

Referbished lenses, in my opinion, are often better working, better aligned and tested, then a new out-of-the box assembly line lens. This white one works fine on my black camers and looks good at the same time. The focus' fast, on the nose, and it is just a workhorse zoon.

I would buy this lens again and again!

My husband gave me the Nikon J1 camera for Christmas last year, and I love it! Our children are very involved in sports and school activities, and I need a low-light camera with a great lens for "far away" shots. This lens is great! I highly recommend it. My husband was worried about purchasing a refurbished lens, but it looked and operated like new!

A nice inexpensive lens

This lens is a nice basic telephoto lens it has room for improvement. It does not have an easy way to switch to manual focus, there's no switch on the lens, you have to go into the camera's menu system to go to manual focus. The same holds true for toggling image stabilization, aka Vibration Reduction. Another nice thing would if the lens cap included a built in retaining strap so you don't loose it.

very nice lens

Still getting the hang of the Nikon 1 lenses; you can read in the printed documentation that the camera has a "2.7 crop factor" so in theory this 30-110 lens should shoot like a big, heavy 90-300 lens for a 35mm film camera; but it sure doesn't look like a traditional 300mm lens. Ultimately, it sort of actually does work like a 90-300; but I'm not a serious pro; 99% of my shots are ad hoc, I don't walk around with a tape measure and a light meter setting up shots, everything is by feel, and the Nikon 1 and this lens "feel" very different. Better, nicer, amazing, terrific; but the feel is definitely different, especially with the longer lenses. I still find myself mis-planning; when I think the 30-110 will be fine for a shot or series of shots because it's just such a small, light lens; but then later I need to pop a smaller lens back on, or I may need to take a number of paces backwards to frame the shot I saw in mind. A little weird, not the lens's fault... it's only taking pictures where I point it. This should not stop you from buying this lens; if you can afford it, do. Technically, for real world use, the lens is essentially flawless and amazing. If you're just shooting pictures, you probably would need to be going out of your way to find the slightest imperfection with this lens mounted on the 10 mega pixel Nikon 1.

Product disconnect

When I first saw the Nikon 1 I was impressed. So, I bought one - in red. I couldn't swing the payments for the entire package, but thought I'd purchase the body and a general purpose lense first, then buy the zoom (30-110mm) later. Now when I am ready to buy, I am told that only the white or black lenses are available for purchase and the other color choices are only available when you buy the kit. Tell me, what is wrong with that picture??? I don't want to stick a black or white zoom lense on a red camera body, but if I want to take pictures as the marketing info promotes, I have only two choices - and neither of the choices are ones I would pick. What was Nikon thinking? Apparently, the marketing department got ahead of the production department or they simply were not communicating. And, that makes the customer with a very undesirable decision: either forget about getting those long shots or pay the $250 to get some remarkable pictures using mix and match product colors.

Greaty Lense for the Size Product!

Quick, easy and compact ... grab and use in an instant! With the existing application (Nikon J1), one can see the picture framed on the display of the camera, and have a fair idea of the outcome.

It is a feather-weight 70-300 mm equivalent that fits in your hand!

By JR

Having experienced the N1 V1 with the excellent wide-angle and 10-30 zoom lenses for a couple of weeks, I decided to purchase also he 30-110 mm zoom lens. I like the 30-110 mm zoom very much, it delivers sharp results with nice colors and good contrast. Apart from this, the strongest feature of this zoom lens is its really tiny size: it is a 70-300 mm equivalent that disappears in your hand. And it weighs almost nothing. The N1 system is simply a fantastic and very capable small camera system...

Compact and lightweight, the 30-110mm is equipped with Vibration Reduction (VR II) to keep moments sharp. Quality and integrity are hallmarks of the new 1 NIKKOR lens system.

Compact telephoto captures wide range of scenes
Work with superior zoom coverage and capture high caliber images that run the gamut, from sports action shot from the bleachers, to the most subtle gradations of hair blowing in the wind. Extend your reach with the 30-110mm (picture angle equivalent of an 81-297mm in 35mm format), and isolate subjects from their backgrounds with clarity. IF (Internal Focusing) maintains compactness of size even when using the zoom.

Portraits with impact
Beautiful portraits focus on the person

A perfect compliment to the 10-30mm, the 30-110mm takes portraiture a step farther. Stunning portraits with soft focus background effects are yours. Compact and easy to carry, realize the most subtle expressions and minute details. 1 NIKKOR lens precision offers superior sharpness and color correction even at the widest aperture. Because portraits are usually taken spur of the moment, there is vibration reduction (VR II) to keep images blur-free.

Focus on the action
Get in close even from afar
Get up close and personal to inje ct panache to your sports photography using the 30-110mm lens. Equipped with vibration reduction (VR II), this lens separates subjects from their backgrounds making it a great choice for honing in on subjects and create photos that are visually vibrant and perfect to upload to your blog or social media sites. Even at the most extended magnification, photos are rendered crystal clear and sharp, making the 30-110mm a perfect option for fast moving subjects from afar.

Beautiful landscape images come to life
Wide depth of field surrenders dazzling views

Work with extended zoom range using the 30-110mm and produce sweeping looks that express your world. Subjects that need to be isolated from their backgrounds, such as a boat at sail, are easy with this lens. Equipped with vibration reduction (VR II) up to four stops, you'll nab every precise color detail seen with dramatic sunsets.

Vibration Reduction
This innovative VR system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed three stops (eight times) faster.** It allows handheld shooting at dusk, at night, and even in poorly lit interiors. The lens' VR system also detects automatically when the photographer pans - no special mode is required.

Extra-low Dispersion Glass
Nikon developed ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to enable the production of lenses that offer superior sharpness and color correction by minimizing chromatic aberration. ED glass offers all the benefits, yet none of the drawbacks of calcium fluorite-basedglass. With this innovation, Nikon developed several types of ED glass suitable for various lenses.

Nikon Super Integrated Coating
To enhance the performance of its optical lens elements, Nikon employs an exclusive multilayer lens coating that helps reduce ghost and flare to a negligible level. Nikon Super Integrated Coating achieves a number of objectives, including minimized reflection in the wider wavelength range and superior color balance and reproduction.

Internal Focusing
Imagine being able to focus a lens without it changing in size. Nikon's IF technology enables just that. All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the nonextending lens barrel. This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction as well as a closer focusing distance.
