Have the camera a couple of years take good photos I notice in move mode when using the zoom the picture shakes from the motor. I contacted Nikon customer service even though its out of warranty and they had me send a sample. They reply was that was normal but if i wanted it fixed it would cost me .If its normal why would it need to be fixed? I do not think nikon designed a camera to have the lens shake when using the zoom. I've been thinking about moving up to a D-SLR but after reading about the horrible customer service on the oil spotting on the D 600 I'll look at Canon. i would feel confident if nikon would fix or replace the defect.

Japanese products instructions used to be laughably unclear. Now they are written in excellent Englisg, and very easy to understand. The instructions only add to an excellent product.

The picture quality is downright disgraceful. Pick any other camera but this one. The extra features aren't forth the poor picture quality

I am not a photographer. I just bought this camera for a hobby. I do not know anything about cameras. I went by the store-keeper's recommendation to buy this Camera. Believe me, its one of the Best, simply marvelous, it never ceases to amaze me. Being an extremely raw novice in photography, my pictures which i clicked looked like ones clicked by professionals. Learning never ends with this camera and with a plethora of functions, it can keep you captivated and spell bound and make photography an addiction for you. Powerful battery life - superb clarity. Do not hesitate to buy this.

I purchased this camera , and it was pretty good. I spent over $400 on this retail when it first came out. Then one morning i turned on the camera and the gears were vibrating really loud and getting stuck. the lens came out , but in the picture the outer ring of the lens is covering the lens. So on the LCD , the picture has a pitch black round curve partially on the lens. I was terribly Disappointed , due to the fact that i had a wedding the next day. i had to spend another $900 buying a New Nikon D5100 , which is fantastic and love it. Over all , if you are just starting out it's good , but if you have the money , i recommend investing into a Nikon dslr.

I have had this camera for just under a year and I can't believe the quality of the pictures. I have taken every kind of photos imaginable from macro to moonless nightshots and have gotten consistently excellent shots. There has been the odd hiccup here and there, but so has all my other electronics, but not enough to not recommend this camera to my friends. Don't listen to the naysayers, just buy this camera. You won't regret it.

I bought this camera as a gift for myself and boy was I dead wrong on suggesting this gift for myself ..... what a piece of junk? Does not focus correctly all the way out on the zoom, camera is very shakey and photo's are blurry. Even if this camera had a shorter lens like a 21x it may be better in handling and focusing. Photo's shot in sunny daylight look Okay, but a bit washed out; forget about photo's indoor they are absolutely terrible, the color is way off scale. My theory is the Nikon & Canon are Rivals to each other and it seems that they have to put out a camera to compete against each other. The digitals made back in 2005 were great with the CCD Chip, today with the CMOS sensor they are JUNK, I would not recommend Nikon to anyone! Sony & Panasonic are the Frontier for Digital Camera's.

The Nikon Coolpix P100 is a great camera. I sought the zoom capabilities and ease of using the auto pre-set modes and manual modes. I have shot 7000 photos in the past year since purchase utilizing every setting imaginable. I love this camera for a point and shoot. I entered 8 photos in the local fair this year and took 3 first place and 1 third place ribbon. I am hooked on Nikon and will be purchasing a D7000 or D5100 this next spring!

I bought this camera because of the size, zoom and other features to carry when it is not convenient to carry my Nikon D90. More often than not, my photos are blurry. I find I leave this one at home more often than not. I have owned many Nikon products and this is the first I have not been satisfied with. Spent nearly $400 to leave it in a drawer?

This is my first Nikon, and probably last, I will ever own. Although it has many features and a great owners manual, the consistency of quality photos it not there. I am not a professional photographer, but am not a novice either and have had many difficulties with this camera, having it in for repair 5 times in a year since purchase. Better off spending a little more and going with a DSLR

One cannot expect d3s results in regards to photo quality.. However, if Nikon decides to design a Bridge camera such as the p100 then Nikon management is responsible to sell a product which includes the basics. The p100 produces less than sharp photos and the ability to shoot raw files was not included in the design. A poor management decision.

This is a great, camera i would recommend this as a "first camera" for anyone who is an aspiring photographer. I am an avid photographer, though i am just starting out under aprenticeship of my mother, i say that choosing this camera to get started was one of the best decisions i have made as a photographer. The camera has great quality and great features including the 26x zoom, and the manual mode is great, which is where my camera stays set most of the time. although the manual mode is wonderful, i wish the camera had two scroll wheels, each separate for aperture and shutter speed, but all is well. Team Nikon forever!

Especially like the adjustable LCD display because it lets us take pictures of my little kids without squatting down.

I did a thorough survey on the web about similar cameras in the same price range. I found that the Coolpix P100 had the features that I wanted, a great zoom (26x), the sports pic function does amazing feats with moving objects; also the time interval between photos was 1st class and so was power up time. I have been playing with the camera for some weeks now, and it does amazing things. For starters, the camera comes loaded with neat features. Low light photo has always been a problem area for all cameras, some introduce more noise than others, I found that the P100 CMOS sensitivity was the best when compared to other cameras in the same price brackets, I’ve tested it and found that night time photos are stunning. The only flaw that I see is that the autofocus sensor sometimes has a hard time when you zoon in to objects that are anyway to close, but you can overcome this with the macro function, so you can take the photo anyway. I love the sports mode, my dog can’t be still for a second, the sports mode takes care of that in an amazing way, the photos are just brilliant. There are cameras out there that do more, but also cost more, in the end I don’t like expensive things just because they are expensive, if you are an amateur, but serious about photography then Functionality vs Price is the key… and the Coolpix P100 delivers great Value!

I bought this camera as a fun "grab and go" and an alternative to my Nikon D5100 when going to the beach or camping with the extended family. In concept it is a great 'bridge' camera, with nice features and I am not unhappy with the optics for the price. The problem seems to be with the firmware which causes the camera to unexpectedly freeze requiring it to be turned off and on or have the battery removed and reinstalled to reboot the camera. It also experiences a strange pattern of colors on the monitor and/or the splits the monitor screen with odd shapes. A review of popular comment sites like Amazon reveals this is a common complaint. The camera has now been in the shop under warranty for over a week and so far the technician cannot isolate the problem.

This is a good camera to have when you are tired of being limited to the small point and shoot features. This will perform alot of the same things that a digital SLR will do, but there is a small delay between when you push the button to snap the picture and when the shutter is released. Some of the other auto focus features are very complicated to try and figure out, like the focus tracker, and the switch to manual focus. Don't be afraid to use the viewfinder to take a picture, turn off the back screen when you are taking pictures. It will conserve battery power.

Highly disappointed in the overall P100 experience. Picture quality is horribly soft, the color reproduction is poor. Worse, the build quality is terrible. When zoomed out the lens barrel flops and wiggles. After 4 months the flash switch is broke and won't turn on. The auto-bracketing feature never has worked. This camera was/is a total waste of money. For the purchase price there are far better cameras out there.

I bought the P100 about a year and half ago. Right out of the box the focus was fuzzy in all lighting conditions. It freezes up when zooming out. So far I have sent it back 3 time to be "fixed". It has been in the shop over 200 days of the 450 days I have own it. I do not trust this camera to preform. I will not buy another Nikon.

I've had this camera about a year, and I have finally come to the decision that I am nothing short of disappointed with it. At first, I thought that it was just me getting used to a new camera, but it's not. Not at all. I also have an old 5megapixel Kodak that my boyfriend started using when I got the Nikon. Now for an entire year his photos have come out better than mine. By far. I've tried different settings and modes, and nothing seems to help. The close ups are great, I'll give it that. The huge crystal clear LCD on the back is amazing. There is hardly and shutter delay. There are many good features. BUT I bought the camera for the supposedly nice zoom. Sure, it'll zoom in far, but good luck getting it to focus nice! Anything that you zoom in on will come out grainy (even not using the digital zoom). I've read other reviews where this has been a noted problem. I could go on forever about comparison. I've taken side by side photos with the same settings on both cameras, over and over again. Bottom line, I'm selling this Nikon, and I'm going BACK to my little old Kodak. It's heartbreaking really, because this was supposed to be a nice upgrade.

I got the P100 as a Christmas present 6 months ago, and I have been very pleased with the outcome. Although not a DSLR, it's the closest thing to, and it prepares you for working with one. It has an incredible zoom, great focus, good battery, and every picture is so vivid. This camera is almost constantly by my side. Great camera, highly recommended!

P100 and P500 are the best cameras to train your hand and start to get the sense of the correct exposure and aperture

This camera is simply amazing. It's good for amateur photographers who want to go into the idea of getting a DSLR but don't want to end up spending thousands. It's easy to use and fun to play with the features. If you are someone who likes taking challenges there are harder options to use too. Try using manual mode for example. The lens are beautiful! They can go as far as a NIKKOR 18-44 mm lens. Overall this camera is amazing and it's performance does well too.

I really love this camera,it does everything!! I was so sad when I dropped it,the zoom died, had to send it away to be serviced in Melville,NY which is very close for me..can't wait to have it back home..it really is so much better than any other camera we've owned, the video sound and picture is a great quality,it's my favorite media device because it's just so easy to use, incredible zoom!!

FANTASTIC. I have had the P100 since February 2011 and I have taken over 6000 photos with it. I already have about 20 or so being considered for publishing. This camera is so good that now I own the P500. Yep, I bought it too. As of today I now own the P500 and my daughter is using the P100. Her first day using the camera and she took 246 photos. Easy to use and the optical zoom is a winner! I ue it for wildlife photos and baseball games mostly.

Excelent All Round Camera for SemiPro

Being the camera buff in the family (several Nikon F3's, N90, D70, D90, D300, dozen lenses, etc.) I was "commissioned" by my brother to get a digital SLR for my nephew. He is in his second year of college, and wanted a good SLR for taking casual photos in college, and for more serious landscape, wildlife photos while on trips, etc. My nephew has only used "point and shoots" so far. Having carried a film SLR throughout my college days; I missed out on a lot of fun because I had to look after m...

good compromise between video & photo capabilities
By Omar H.
Pros: Excellent video quality, outstanding zoom capabilities, Cons: For the price, this camera should be at least a 12MP camera, bulky for a point and shoot camera. Video is in .MOV format only, not easily compatible with older computers and software. Background: I’ve used in the past the Nikon Coolpix S6000 (at 14.2MP), the L12 (at 7.1 MP) and another Coolpix at 3.1 MP for which I can’t remember the model. All excellent cameras that lead me to the P100. Main reason for selecting the P100 w...

The Nikon CoolPix P100 combines high-speed shooting capability and an enormous focal range in a compact 'bridge-style' digicam. Sporting the low profile of a compact DSLR, the Nikon P100 can knock out up to 10 full-resolution images-per-second of subjects close and far through the P100's fixed 26-678mm equivalent lens. For applications that require even faster capture rates, the P100 can also shoot up to 120 fps at 1.1MP. Basically, if you can see it, you can shoot it.
The P100 utilizes backside illumination technology that enables the camera sensor to capture and display more detail and tone than conventional CMOS sensors. Combined with Nikon's Backlit Scene HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, the images captured by the diminutively-sized CoolPix P100 will truly blow you away. Video shooters will appreciate the P100's ability to capture dynamic 1080p HD video at 30 fps complete with stereo sound and HDMI output.
Other features found in the CoolPix P100 include a bright 3" (460,000-dot) LCD, a 5-Way VR image stabilization system for maintaining sharp pictures under the lowest of lighting conditions, and ISO sensitivities up to 3200. The P100 also features Nikon's Smart Portrait System, which makes easy work out of taking flattering portraits, along with a host of in-camera shooting modes and retouching tools. And for macro aficionados the Nikon CoolPix P100 can focus down to 0.4".
