Out of the box camera would not take its USB cable. Returned to their captive repair shop with copy of statement showing it was in warranty. They called me, stated not in warranty, needed a new "motherboard". I sent the statement again and they called back, saying the connection would be fixed under warranty. The camera will not connect to computer via wifi or any other way. In spite of a dozen phone calls and emails and searching the web, the only way you can upload photos is via SD card which I find inconvenient although will do it since I am stuck with the camera. My first and last Nikon, browse the web and you will find numerous complaints the same.

I purchased this camera in May 2016. I would say the pictures it takes are sataisfactory for what I want them for. While on an extended trip in June of this year, the lens failed to open giving me a 'lens error'. After repeated tries to get it to operate correctly I gave up and spent the rest of my 5 week trip taking pictures with my phone which I was not happy about. When I contacted Nikon about reparing it they wouldn't even discuss doing it under warranty as it had expired the previous month. To me as a business owner this would have been a 'no brainer' as i will now be looking at other brands to replace this camera that in my mind is sub par as far as quality and durability are concerned. Why would I want to pay you to repair a camera after 13 months of operation? And the estimate to repair is only $50 less than I paid for it. This is my second Nikon camera and will be my last for sure!

Many users have problem with lens cover not opening (check on-line forums). Does not focus well on closeups, even in Macro mode.

When Im in zoom the camera will focus but as soon as I take the picture it automatically goes blurry leaving me with a blurry picture. I have done everything to try to stop this, but it just won't focus, even with the focus feature.

I purchased the S7000 a year ago. I have had focus problems, even with a clean lens. I can re-take the picture and it will be clear and sharp. Currently, after thousands of pictures, it still doesn't focus that well. The zoom in and out does not work properly. The mechanism will lock up, and the subject in the window is jittering. The camera must be turned off and back on. Sometimes this will work. It sounds as though the motor is sticking making such a sound. Otherwise, when new, this camera was great, although there were some focus issues.

Amazing how far this camera can focus and get excellent detailed results with only 125-400 ISO while hand held! Pity that people give this camera a low review for things such as not being able to focus when an experienced photographer knows every camera of every brand has a minimum focusing distance especially when the lens are zoomed in. The detail, color and zoom is outrageous for a camera of this size, weight and portability! "But there's no manual mode!" Yes there is if you consider you can set the ISO to 125 or from a range of 125-400 which produces excellent results! You can also use exposure compensation and the saturation setting to also customize to your taste! "But sometimes the images are too dark or they're too overexposed!" Well it's a camera not a magic wand, you still have to compose your image according to the available light and the settings in the camera, you have to angle the camera and yourself according to the available light. The most expensive and sophisticated cameras still rely on your know how and creativity. No camera will yield perfect results every time but this one comes close! See my samples and thank you Nikon!

I don’t expect the same quality as my D200 or D7000. But I would think this camera would at least be on par with a smart phone…. Very disappointed with this unit.

After purchasing this camera in May, 2015 for an upcoming trip to Italy in fall, I had a problem with lens not retracting while in Italy. I had to use my phone for photos. They repaired it since it was still under warranty. Recently took it on a trip to take photos of my sons wedding...same problem with lens...no photos! Since it is no longer under warranty, they tell me send it for repairs at my cost! Don't know what that cost will be and don't know if I want to spend money on a faulty product.

I purchased this camera for venues where I'm not allowed to take my D7100. The 20X zoom is awesome. Love the wifi and remote control features of this camera. Did have an auto-focus problem that Nikon quickly resolved. I would buy this camera again. Takes good pictures but I haven't scratched the surface of what this camera can do.

The Nikon S7000 is a great camera for close ups and doubles as a great camera for long distance. The wireless WIFI is second to none. It transfers the picture fast.

Purchased S7000 and shortly after warranty camera started to freeze (jam) at times after taking picture. I felt this is a pretty basic flaw in camera. No one in technical support could help me. Until that point Iloved the camera especially Wi Fi feature. I own a great deal of Nikon equipment including a 70s D300 D800. Several flash units and close to a dozen lenses. I hope this is not the beginning of of a service decline. Camera was not expensive and Nikon should have taken a look at camera. I believe I was less than a month past warranty. Wii not buy anything refurbished fro mNikon.

I am impressed. Refurbished camera? No different from brand new. Of course it takes some to learn what the camera can do. Thank you for a fine product. Fred

I purchased this camera so I can take pics of my son while he trains in his martial arts class. I was particularly interested in the zoom. When the camera arrived I LOVED how small it was since I carry it in my purse. I found the camera easy to operate. The only problem I have is with the quality of the long distance pics. I obviously can't get on the mat to take close ups or add light and, unfortunately the far distance come out blurry. The camera zooms in right where I need it to but the end result is blurry. I've played with different settings and will continue to do so in hopes that I can figure this out. Other than that I really like this camera and have had no other problems.

My previous Nikon Coolpix started having lens failure issues so I bought this camera. I purchased this one due to the huge zoom of 20X. Let me say it lives up to it. I also got another camera about $100 less but zoom was only 5x. I took several pics with both and the decision was clear as to which one I would keep. I love being able to transfer pics to my iphone and can control camera with it-even thought I probably wont. This camera has so many features its ridiculous. I am amazed. I will use it for the outdoors primarily while bike riding taking nature shots. I did take a few evening shots of a group of people and the front ones are lit up but the back ones were dark. I read up on the flash and see there is a night mode and will try again. Of course there will be a learning curve. And I don't expect to be an expert with this camera, but its fun to use and who knows what I may learn along the way as in my younger days I loved playing with my cameras. Some of that feeling has now returned. The size of the camera is also great. It fit perfectly in the case of my prior Nikon. I would leave my Iphone home when biking if it were not for emergency use. But this camera has certainly replaced it in that respect. As I have had the camera for only a few days, I also see leaving my phone home when going to parties and only taking the camera. I must admit I was a little concerned re having rechargeable camera but the battery life is long. I am not sure yet if I will find it necessary to buy a spare yet. At this point, I am sure I will love it in 30 days and not return it. At this price point, it was a little more than I wanted to pay but the zoom really helped me to decide this was the camera for me.

Very good camera so far. Many many features and very easy to use. Its size is very small, though. You need small hands to operate comfortably, or be very careful when operating it and pushing its buttons or setting its functions. Otherwise. its is very good.

I've used Nikon 35MM SLR and now DSLR cameras for years. Always top quality. This little camera is no exception. Great results for a little "pocket" camera. Of course, I expected nothing less than excellence from Nikon. Adorama is, also, excellent.

Sometimes I leave my 16 mp D-SLR at home and use the much smaller and lighter Coolpix S7000. It can't replace the larger camera for image quality but it comes very close. The smaller sensor is more prone to noise and loss of detail in the shadows. The images are well saturated and clear. This camera has many scene modes and other picture options so there can be a bit of a learning curve but well worth the effort. I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a few more options than point and shoot.

This camera does most of the things that the big cameras do. The telephoto is excellent. It is very thin and compact and easy to use. The picture quality is very good.

Great for a small, convenient to carry, decent (and low cost) pocket camera. Good close up macro, very wide zoom range. But slow focus, shutter lag, not high sensitivity, no viewfinder and display washes out in sunlight. Buttons close to each other due to small size leads to unintentional activations. Automatic operation only, no manual programming, but many 'scene' options once one learns their protocols. Video does surprisingly well, although changing light levels and backgrounds can drastically throw off exposures. Bottom line, If you want an always there alternative to carrying a heavy DSLR and don't then need fast response or excellent resolution, this budget price camera will capture most shots and is well worth purchasing.

Initial charging light did not turn off when charged, per manual. Focusing worked well mid to far but macro to 6 ft. would not focus. Returned for replacement, instead Adorama refunded full amount.

It was easy to set up after downloading the manual from Nikon. Once we reviewed the PDF file while charging the battery which maybe it took about an hour. We did not time it. I was intrigued about the wifi and downloaded the app from from the App store and installed it on my iPhone 4 (yes that one is old) and got it to communicate with it. Now since I was using iOS 7 it worked I was able to zoom remotely and took an image of the wife and myself. Pretty neat. The wife and I reviewed the basic setting that she should use and I think she took 22 images before leaving to visit our daughter in Buffalo. And took 166 more at the Buffalo Botanical Garden for a total combined 188 when the battery was exhausted. Now mind you we were going through the menus at the beginning getting set up. Also she did note that she accidentally hit the wifi button and could not figure how to shut it off as the menu to disable was grayed out. Onto the images which were excellent meaning very little post processing would have to be done, There is an Exposure Value button you can to move the EV up or down by 2 stops and that is helpful on a point and shoot. She did mis focused on a few flowers about 2 or 3 and may have been operator or a too busy scene for the camera. Otherwise this camera was very good on focusing compared to the Nikon P7000 that she used. I could not find where I could add some images as I would like to. Lou Cioccio Erie, PA

Amazing quality and features in such a small package
By Jess_B
I could not believe the quality of photos and videos this camera takes. I takes better pictures than my old DSLR camera. For the price, there is no way you can go wrong. The zoom is fantastic, even once you start getting into the 40x digital zoom (provided you are on a still surface). I would recommend this camera to everyone!
Alot of bang for the buck

I've owned a lot of Nikon equipment over the years, starting with a Nikon FG in 1983 (still own), the first Nikon Coolpix 900, D50, D300, D5100 several Coolpix cameras (900, P100, S9100, 4500). Now I am down to a d5100, the FG, and this one. This is the perfect complement. Let's face it, phone cameras are pretty good these days (just got a Moto Pure X). The DSLR is a little bulky to have with you all around. The S7000 is the perfect in between. It has nice reach, pretty solid resolution and l...

Apply creative effects, combine short video clips into a 30-second montage, even create amazing time-lapse movies right in the camera.
Experienced photographers optimize their camera settings to match the situation. The COOLPIX S7000 does that work for you. Catch the shot you want on the first try. No more out of focus shots or the frustration of trying to get the camera to focus on the right thing.
