This is a great camera at a steal for the price. Nikon USA does a great job with re-certifying their products as the camera looks exactly new. The lens is excellent producing sharp images in various lighting. The 10x zoom is perfectly stabilized for most situations with nice coverage. The lcd is bright, good definition and perfectly complements this unit. The zoom could be a little quieter in movie mode but that's nit picking. I paid [$] for it, it's at [$] now, so go grab it before someone else does.

what a fine compact unit. many are pleased with the iphone and other similar compacts... a 10x zoom and some adjustments really make a difference. color is good... the iphone has an HDR app and some apps that give real features, like oil paint .. that small coolpix still can't do. that will be needed and quickly. they already have 921k dot displays.. just go a little further and they can stave off the iphone stuff for years.

Great camera, great price! However, I returned one and waiting on replacement. No manual controls but enough modes to make advanced amateur happy. Yes, pop-up flash is awkward but more powerful than most point and shoots. With practice you figure out how to hold it properly. Boost LCD brightnes to maximum and outdoors viewing is good despite no viewfinder. Being refurbished, check out all functions upon receipt. Adorama customer service very courteous and professional.

I have had this camera for about a year and the three things I like most about this camera is its 10x analog zoom, great picture stabilization, and its low light picture taking capabilities, oh, and the supurb screen. It has a mode called "night portrait" that just blew me away. The first time I used it was when my kids were standing next to Santa with a colorful Christmas background. I first tried a standard flash shot and it was good. But then I tried Night Portrait and it brought out every color and shadow along with a perfectly lit foreground. The only negative I have is the placement of the flash. It pops up where you natually hold the camera.

Fast and good in poor light. The perfect camera to use on my vacation. I took this camera to New York city, very pleased with the pictures of Manhattan. Took a 1350 mile trip to NH,VT and NY state on a Goldwing,perfect size camera to pack on a motorcycle.Beautiful pictures, of Cog Railroad, Vermount,and Lake George NY. The two things I did not like were, the on and off switch, that came on by sligthly touching it, while storing in camera case. Lcd in vertical position is very hard to see, horizonal is great. Battery life was very good, had over 250 pictures before it went dead, with alot of off and on's and reviews of pictures. I have a Nikon D90, I'm not saying s8100 is as good as the D90. But putting pictures side by side it would be hard for the average person to tell whitch camera they came from.
