The camera body replaces an 8-year old camera that freakishly and suddenly failed - it would have cost more - and taken longer - to repair it than to replace it. This camera is exactly as represented, I use it with lenses I already had - I could not be happier with it. Thank you Nikon, thank you Adorama. I will continue to shop here always.

This camera is a great starter! I had a film SLR for years, and I was hesitant to relearn on digital, but this camera was a perfect conduit on which to make this transition. The price point also allowed me the flexibility to not only purchase one for myself, but also purchase one for my father, who is in the same boat.

The D3100 is a entry level DSLR. 14 mp by today's standard is weak but in reality is more than enough. This was my 14 yo daughter birthday present and for that is much more camera than she needs. Great image quality , focus is very responsive. The live view is weak but is there. The lens has VR and is sharper than many believe it to be, menus are simple and intuitive. This is a refurbished product came in a white box nut it looked pretty much new to my eyes. I'd buy it again on a limited budget looking fora nice DSLR.

My wife and I got this camera over 4 years ago, and we absolutely love it. It has over 40,000 clicks on it, and still going strong! We have learned how to take more advanced photos, partly with help from the Guide mode. It's raw files offer adequate color range for processing some incredible photos - landscape and family type shots. We've mostly used the kit lens, which worked for most of our needs. Movies looks great (except for lens focus noise, inherent with anything without a dedicated mic), but we shot mostly pictures. My only qualm with this camera is high ISO noise/light sensitivity. I've been pushing the boundaries with it over the last year, and wishing for more... so I upgraded to a D610, which I love even more.

I've been using the D40 and D50 for several years, and love the Nikon system. The D3100 is compact, light, and offers superb performance; the 18-55mm lens is also a sweet performer. I like it so much, I'm going to buy another D3100 package!

I love this camera. I read a lot of reviews between Canon and Nikon before purchasing my first DSLR. I am really glad I went with this model, and through Adorama as well. I use it to take action photos of the teams I coach, family photos, our dog, and recently I took it to a wedding and took pictures at the reception. It is light and compact, not too big but big enough you feel like you have a quality camera with you.

I always liked the convenience of a pocket camera in my business shooting 100 - 200 photos a day of dogs I care for. I wanted to improve my picture taking so I bought this camera on the advice of Ken Rockwell. It's got all sorts of great features if you want to get finicky, but just set on auto it is so easy to use I can hardly believe it. Now I'm taking 300 - 400 pix a day and the quality of them has improved tenfold. My clients absolutely love the pictures I'm emailing to them. The Nikon D3100 has made it so easy for me! It's a real quality camera, very fast to capture my always moving subjects, and super simple to use.

I am a semi Pro Photographer and I have some very very expensive equipment. I take very good care of this equipment and generally only use is for commissioned shoots or important personal events. The usual substitution for a DSLR is a point and shoot or a mirrorless camera but I am not the biggest point and shoot fan and I am really really disappointed with Nikon's 1 series. So what I usually do is I have an older Intro Level DSLR to take with me everywhere and if anything happens too it, well darn but no biggy. I recently replaced my old D60 with the D3100 and so far I absolutely love it. It is an intro level camera so we are talking bare bones and basic and with all things you do get what you pay for but I make no apologies for this little trooper. If you are looking for an intro level DSLR as a first DSLR or to upgrade from an aging model then look no further. The D3000 series is an excellent line. It has all of the auto modes you could ever ask for for the newbies so do not be intimidated by the idea of this being too much camera for you it is incredibly user friendly. But my favourite part is that this camera grows with you as you develop your skill and knowledge. So get to know it, take some classes, get some more kit to expand your abilities but have no doubt it will keep up with you every step of the way. To be fair this is not a camera I would take on commissioned shoots but even then get the right lighting and the right lens and there really is no reason you couldn't if you wanted. My only bones to pick with the D3100 are that for video (and I shoots stills, I could hardly care less) the sound and the auto focus are terrible but again you get what you pay for and this model was never really intended to be strong in video. If you are looking for a video capable intro level camera then you will love the D5000 series with much better sound and auto focus. And the only actual legitimate complaint I have with the D3100 is there is no Inferred sensor to allow wireless remote control. Why? Why would you do that you have always had it in you DSLRs, why cut it from this model? Fortunately Nikon fixed this issue in the D3200 and D3300 models. Two amazing intro level DSLRs in their own right. So aside from one mirror annoyance I have to say, great job Nikon I am a life long Nikon shooter but I know, love and use most other brands as well, still I am pleased I chose Nikon for my kit. If you are looking for an intro Level DSLR the D3100 and it's successors the D3200 and D3300 are excellent choices that are perfect for complete beginners and grow with you every step of the way.

This deal was so good we ended up getting two of them! The camera itself is very easy to use and carry and has worked perfectly. Cosmetically, it looked brand new. I've taken advantage of refurb deals before and have never been dissappointed.

When my d70s started to break down on me I decided to buy a new camera. I bought the D3100 during the holiday sales. Price was great as well as the camera, however, my old lenses required an internal camera motor for autofocus. Not a negative as most lenses made in the past ten years come with a focus motor in the lens. I just didn't realize the D3100 lacked it when i placed the order and I have 15 year old lenses. Boxed it up and recieved a full refund from Adorama, no questions! Great customer service. With that said, the short time I used the D3100 was great. VERY light weight but well constructed feel. Produced great photographs. Refurbished but looked like it was brand new, not even a scratch. Don't hesitate to buy refurbished, its a steal.

I've only had the camera for a couple days now, but I just wanted to share my experience so far. Bought the camera refurbished at a good price, cheaper than I could find at certain other large internet retailers. The free shipping said 7-10 days. I got it in 24 hours. Awesome. I figured buying refurbished was sort of a gamble, but that with the return policy (and 90-day warranty) I could just send it back if it came scratched or whatnot. Opened it, and it looked shiny. Felt brand new. Checked the shutter count: it was 3, including the picture I took to test. Awesome again. This was my first purchase on Adorama. I'm using the D3100 as a starter DSLR to get into photography so when I inevitably need more equipment, I'm definitely coming back.

I got this camera as a birthday/christmas present and I couldn't be happier with it! Not only does it take amazing photos and videos, but it's super easy to use and it has so many fun features!! This camera came with two different types of lenses and the standard battery/charger. As someone who has recently taken up photography as a hobby and loves to travel, this camera is definitely worth it and has come in handy for fun adventures as well as school projects. If you want a great DSLR to start out with, I'd recommend this camera/model.

Almost inmediatelly was stolen my Nikon D80, had to buy a D3100, did not have enough money for something else at the time. but what a great surprise... Excellent picture quality, very easy and intuitive controls, allows great learning thanks to their guide mode. and given its size and weight makes it very comfortable to carry around ... a very good camera to start and continue

Okay, I just got this camera as a Chirstmas gift from my father. I have taken all of my photos on my camera phone. In which the count exceeds 1000 plus photos. I took this picture of my puppy. I was just so shocked at how it looked like a professional photograher took the photo. I absolutely love this camera. Once you read the basic user instructions or even without it.. You will never go wrong for paying more money for this camera.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The D3100 is a wonderful entry level SLR, and Adorama is selling the refurb at a very reasonable price. Tbe included 18-55 VR is an fine lens and will handle 90% of what I want to shoot. You can pay a lot more for an SLR, but if most of what you plan to shoot will be in "auto" mode or variation of it, this will more than do the trick.

For the price range I was interested in I think this camera is great. It is light any easy to use - just what I was looking for! I mainly go it to take pictures of the sports teams I coach and have taken it out several times and gotten quality action shot for our small organization.

Finally got my 1st DSLR!
By streetmusic
my D3100 arrived this afternoon and I came home to get familiar with the settings and give a tryout. Let me tell you that my desires to ever go back to the days of my 35 film is long past now. Light weight, quick to snap and use as easy as my point and shoot Coolpix. If you have the desire to get into a digital SLR then I am going to highly recommend this for what ever you have a need for, the photos I will attach are my first with this, I'm very impressed and want to learn more. Thanks Nikon
Great beginner Camera
By ChacaCon
I knew nothing of SLR cameras when I got the d3100. I found myself dispointed in it at first but I found out the problem was with me. I was shooting in JPG(not RAW) and in AUTO mode(not one of the manual modes). I turned to Youtube and found out that there is SOOO much more you can do with that camera when you shoot in RAW(good software like Lightroom 4 and such to edit them in) and Manual Mode! My pics turned out better than I could have imagined! For a beginner camera this a great start! Ta...
