Se quer discrição e qualidade é essa

Leve, discreta, pequena e potente. Eu tive uma D40x que tem 10,2 MP. sempre levava para pescarias e viagens. Acredito que com uma 35mm faça o trabalho ideal

10 years and 10,000+ clicks, and it still takes great photos

I have had my D40 since 2005, and have taken over 10,000+ photos with it. My son now uses this as I have upgraded to the D5100, but will go back to the D40 from time to time.

" Totally Amazing" Nikon always comes up with a WINNER!

After suffering a stroke that left me unable to use my left hand, I needed a smaller DSLR for the right hand. I have a very expensive canon EOS 1D Mrk 111 that weighs a ton. I was fortunate to find a BRAND NEW D40 still in the boxes unopened on the site kijiji. For a ridiculous LOW amount. This little gem has turned me away from the competitor and now im a Nikon man. Even though its only 6.1 megapixels it masquardes as a much higher megapixel camera. I teamed it with a light 18-200 VR 2.8 lens and now have a camera system that over takes the canon 21.1 megapixel beast now residing in the closet. Keep up the great work Nikon you changed a canon lover to a NIKON lover.

Compact and easy to use.

I have used this camera under a wide range of conditions including sports under poor light condition and always with good results. Ex. High School Basketball (with a AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8 G lens.

I LOVE MY D40

bought the D40 at 14, now almost 7 years later I have four more lenses and a fast growing photography business. The d40 has been there through it all. I love this camera, in two years after I receive my degree, my graduation present to myself will be yet another Nikon! Can't wait!thank you nikon for such an amazing product, one which I consider an extension of my own eye.

Definitely packs a punch

I'm a college senior and have been using my mom's D40 for the past three years. I use it mainly for shooting sports photos, and get great results until it gets dark and the field lights come on. That's when I switch to my sister's Canon EOS 6D; higher ISO lets me keep shooting at fast enough shutter speeds to get good action shots, and I can clean up the noise later in editing. But for daylight conditions, I get better results with the D40, although part of that may be due to having more familiarity with it than I do with the Canon. Definitely a great buy for people wanting to get great photos of their kids for scrapbooks and such!

NIkon D40 is a powerhouse :)

To the reviewer before me set your camera to "M" this lets you set both the Shutter and the Aperture at the same time for complete control. I love this little powerhouse of a camera. It is ONLY 6 Megapixels but honestly it does plenty. It takes great quality shots and it very easy to learn how to use. I'm still learning the art of photography. Replaced an old Olympus Point to shoot and this camera has by far exceeded my expectations. I've had this camera for 7 years and mostly used it for quick shots. But now that I am heading back into Railroad photography and night time shots this camera offers quite a bang for the buck. Remember the more pixels you have, the less sensitive those pixels will be. That is why a 6 megapixel will actually be MORE sensitive to light than the newer higher numbers sensors. I love how easy it is to use. For those who like "AUTO" that seems to do a good job. But those who like to take long exposures this thing does a superb job. I was actually looking to upgrade this thing but it's not really needed. I have started shooting in RAW mode which is actually better in some ways. If you shoot in RAW it does take the picture but doesn't process it at all..IE no White balance setting, or auto lighting. If you shoot in JPEG while you may get a great picture with light, if it is too dark you can only do so much to fix it.

Great Beginner Camera

I got this camera when I was sixteen to begin learning photography. The flash is junk, but always used a manual lens or the 'no flash' setting I have gotten some quite successful results. Disappointed in the lack of features in manual mode. Can only set shutter in Manual mode & the aperture sets automatically unless one has a aperture ring (which I've always had to use). My camera has been exposed to water, sand and dropped off a second story balcony onto cement and still works (despite a few cracks on the body)!! I have outgrown this camera, but recommend it for beginners and the occasional family reunion.

size doesn't matter!!

After using my d40 for about 5 months, I won a photography contest with my opponents using d7k's, d700, and even Canon 5D Mark III. I didn't really expect great things happening since I first got this camera. I believe it's all God's will for me to have this camera. A lot of people say, my d40 is the smallest, lightest and cheapest Nikon DSLR, but hey! Guess who defeated the giants! My humble d40 took the lead.

Perfect camera

This camera exceeds my expectations, for a long while i favored my old canon 35mm slr over the new digital slr's. But when i bought this to replace it i quickly found that i can get great quality pictures faster and easier no 35m film required. perfect camera for hobbyist or professionals.

Great experience with Adorama

This camera is fairly easy for a beginner to use, although I'm definitely still learning. It takes great outdoor photos in good light and I'm learning how to take better photos indoors. I do find that it is not quite as intuitive as far as what buttons do what functions, but you get used to it quickly. And the camera was in excllent condition, even arriving with a fully charged battery!

Totally Flabbergasted By My D40

Some photographers out there (perticularly people who are new to the art) always think more is better; bigger is better. Fortunately, in reality, that is not the case. The simple design of the D40 makes it perfect for anyone from amateur to pro. It is truly capable of handling anything a professional grade camera is -if you know how to use it corretctly that is. Because it is compact and light weight it goes anywhere! (up rock walls and mountain sides!) And because it is no longer in production (sadly), it is easy to find one in immaculate condition and exteremly well priced second hand. I love mine! There may come a day when my D40 fails me and I will have to find a new camera to shoot, that will be a sad day, but until that time I wouldn't choose to shoot anything else!

Great camera

My first dslr. after 5000 shots indoors and out, I am still enjoying the little guy. I have ordered my 4th lens. For the money it performs great. It proves to me, you don't need a $5000 camera to shoot good photos.

This camera is stunning. I have yet to come close to being let down with the capabilities of the Nikon D40. I HIGHLY recomend this model to anyone looking to get into photography. The 18-55mm kit lense is very impressive.

I like the camera but...

There are any things I like about D-40 but when I use my Nikon 105 portrait lens I can not use the auto focus, only manual. I use a tripod in this case.

Great camera AND lens!

This is my first move from 35mm SLR to Digital SLR, after 30+ years using Nikon film cameras, and/or digital point and shoots. I bought this camera after months of research, and intentionally went with the D40 over the newer D3000 and D5000 at the time, due to the fact that the sensor in this 6.1MP camera has much lower noise at ISO1600 than some of the newer 10MP and 12MP Nikon sensors. I've been very pleased - its a shame that this camera is no longer in production, as it is a GREAT size and packs a lot of performance for the money. The only drawback, and I knew this going in, is that this body won't autofocus older Nikon non-DX lenses due to the lack of a focus motor built into the body. Recommend the Nikon 35mm F1.8 DX lens, as well as the 55-200mm VR II lens.

JUST AWSOME.

40 Thousand clicks and counting,. still like new,. love the quality of my photos,. just amazing,. can't let it go,. dont need to upgrade, some say for amateurs but i say no way jose,. well hope they say that because its easy to use, because the quality of the photos are pro,. 5 stars for this one. btw, the lcd screen 5 times better than the newer models, you start to love your photos as soon as you see them on the lcd screen, fully recommended.

real photography

my dad bought me this camera. and it was my first SLR camera. i think the D40 is perfect for beginners, because this is what photography should be. there are no live-view or 50 megapixel. the camera is perfect because YOU make the photos and not the camera.

Great for sporting events!

This has been a great camera for taking photos of my family and their activities. My son plays baseball, basketball, football, and runs track and I've gotten some really great shots of him. My daughter does gymnastics and dance and it's been great for taking action shots of her as well. I take pics of almost every milestone or event so I take well over 10,000 photos a year. I had it for over 3 yrs before I had the first problem with it.

Excellent beyond its megapixels

I used the D40 as a backup camera for a couple of years, and was always delighted with the results it provided. One of its images recently won a national fishing landscape photography contest, after which I celebrated by having that shot blown up to 20"x30". It not only held up in quality, but if I hadn't made the shot myself, I never would have believed it was done by a 6mp camera. Super little camera.
