Nikon's Scene Recognition System analyzes each shooting situation and compares it to an onboard database of thousands of scenes and automatically determines the best exposure. I like that the camera is easy to navigate through the menus and things are quick to find. Takes excellent pictures. I would highly recommend this camera even for beginners I think this would be a great camera.

Great features

The D5300 is my first DSLR camera. I bought my D5300 with the Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Kit Lens, but I use it with a Nikon 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Lens. I use my camera for taking photos of birds or landscapes. The D5300 is my only camera capable of taking photos of birds in flight.

A good camera with a small body

I have been a hobbyist-level photographer for many years, going clear back to 1961 when I got my first film camera. I can't honestly say photography is a passion with me; more like a pleasant pastime. I didn't get involved with digital cameras until 2005, when I was gifted with a small point-and-shoot. I did become interested, though, and from that time until the present I have purchased and taken lots of pictures with increasingly advanced cameras (one of which was my much-loved Nikon P-80) until December of last year, when I made the step up from a Fuji bridge camera to the Nikon d5300, which I paired with the Nikkor 35mm f /1.8 DX prime lens. I am almost 70 years old and don't get out and around like I did in the past. Still, I very much enjoy my vintage-2013 DSLR; it has all the features I need and prefer after 12 years of using digital cameras. I live on a fixed income and cost was a factor. But I have an extraordinarily fine, precision instrument in the d5300, with its 24-megapixel DX sensor (I especially like the absence of an anti-aliasing filter, which increases sharpness). I have also come to rely on a fully articulated LCD, and don't like touch screens; the d5300 has the one without the other; perfect. It shoots 60 fps video, ideal for slow motion (I am an intermediate-level user of v.15 of both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements). I like to do time-lapse; there's a built-in intervalometer. I did some homework before I bought this jewel and I'm very happy with it. Thanks very much.

First DSLR

Best camera I've ever used, followed by the D3300, I loved it. It makes great shots, has good settings, sensor cleaning could be a little more effective, but it does not change the fact that it's good.

The best DSLR for beginners and professionals

This is my second Nikon DSLR. First was a D3800 which was great, then I got the Nikon D5300. The weight of this camera is so light which makes it a dream to hike with. The camera controls are easily accessible and within seconds you are ready to take your shot. Love this camera!

Fabulous!

Retired enthusiast, Upgraded from a 10 year old D80. Quite the improvement especially in the focusing and image quality, I shoot 14bit raw and use Lightroom. Also perfect size and weight for me. Great ease of use. My first Nikon was an FTn (m1971). Still have it.

Very good DSLR for my needs

I received this camera new and I have been using this camera for work for the past 3 years. I use it indoors and outdoors all year in Minnesota. It has over 280,000 actuations and has not had any repairs done on it. Has worked in the rain, sleet and snow really well and it was still working at -20F these past couple of winters. I would buy another if I have to.

Great camer

I purchased the D5300 specifically for conversion to infrared photography. I selected the D5300 for 3 reasons: 1) live view (very important for focusing with infrared), 2) flip out screen, 3) modest price. The camera has worked out great as a special purpose tool. I also have a D5500 that I use for general (usually not so serious) photography. I have a full-frame D800e for the more serious stuff. The only thing I miss on the D5300 is a touch screen. The touch screen functions on the D5500 are great.

A fine all around small dSLR

This bundle worked nicely for me as a beginner. I have enough to take some really nice pictures, learn about the basics, and it was affordable.

Perfect package for a beginner

This is my second try at a refurbished D5300. The first one had a faulty lens mount and I had to return it. That is not what I expected from Nikon. Adorama sent a replacement and it seems fine. Two pieces were missing but Adorama replaced them quickly. I like the features, especially wifi connections to my phone. Automatic features seem fine but I am waiting for the eclipse to see how well it works on manual. I would rate it 5 stars if I had not had so much trouble getting a working body and all the parts.

Easy to use , light , small well balanced ,good quality camera

I was looking for another body to add to my camera bag and wanted one that was compatible with the batteries, lenses and other accessories I already had for my other two Nikons.  The D5300 was among my possible choices and had several features I was looking for.  It has already proven to be an excellent choice although the real proof will come at a music festival I'll be photographing at over Labor day weekend.  The only small "glitch" I've encountered was a "freeze" of all functions after taking a "burst" of photos (continuous H mode).  Further research on that lead me to believe that the SD card was too slow.  Has to remove and reinsert the battery to clear the "freeze".   I've updated to an SD card with a higher transfer speed, so that will hopefully help avoid that situation in the rare cases when I use that shutter mode.

Excellent Product

I got interested in wildlife photography and have a D7200.  My wife was interested in taking pictures but the D7200 was too heavy and complicated.  She loves this camera.   It takes great photos and is really light weight.   Also we can share equipment which helps out in keep our cost down.

My refurbished D5300 has performed perfectly.  I'm happy that I saved the money instead of purchasing new.

Great camera for a great price.

I purchased this for my wife as an upgrade to her D5100. I downloaded the manual from Nikon and she is just beginning to become familiar with the new features and looking forward to exploring all of them. We were both impressed by the excellent condition of the camera and and expect to get many years of great picture taking from it.

Very much worth the price just as advertised

I've had this camera for about 7 or 8 months and it is absolutely amazing. it has guided me to take my photographer skills to new levels and to try new things. This camera was also my first DSLR. The kit lenses are amazing, I frequently use the telephoto lens to snap shots of the moon. I'm gonna be buying more lenses later this month though, so I can get the best out of the Nikon experience.

I purchased a redurbished Nikon D5300 DSLR from Adorama a few weeks ago and I am just as happy as if I would have purchased a new D5300.  I needed a camera to give my initial camera (Also refurbushed) a break.  I love it.  It came with a Nikon battery, necessary wires, camera body cap, and battery charger. 

I just wish it came with the manual that comes with the new cameras.  But, you can download the large and small manuals from the NikonUSA website to your computer, smartphone and/or tablet.

Fabulous price too. 

I always buy refurbished, when I can. Nooooo problems.

Overall, it is a good camera. I find the wireless utility difficult to use. The camera wants to connect to my phone requesting a PIN while the while the phone is simultaneously doing the same utilizing Nikon's WU2 0090B16885F WiFi app. Sorry sales and tech people, I can't read your mind as to what either device is looking for.

Nikon 5300

For years I've used a Nikon D80 and finally upgraded!  The D5300 takes great pictures and is super simple to use.  While not feature rich as some of the full-frame "professional" cameras, you can't tell a difference in the pictures. I definitely recommend this camera.  That said, the two things I do miss that the D5300 doesn't have is a built-in autofocus motor and the top display.

Love this camera!

I received this camera as a graduation present pretty recently, so I haven't used it enough to be able to provide a comprehensive review, which has prevented me from giving it 5 stars. From my limited use, however, I can say that the camera is surprisingly light, making it very portable and easy to bring places to take pictures. It has a wide breadth of functions, allowing the photographer to do all kinds of things that I have been unable to do on other cameras. The limited amount of pictures I have taken have turned out great, and I look forward to being able to take more. In conclusion, I would say that for its price, this camera is a great buy, especially for beginner photographers or those people who want a nice camera without having to pay over $, for example.
(P.S: I have been using a Tamron 18-200, F/3.5-6.3 lens with it)

Great Camera!

This is the fifth Nikon body I have purchased that is refurbished. I have had absolutely no problems with any of them and they have all looked and performed as if they were new. And Adorama has always provided excellent customer service, fast shipping and stands behind everything they sell. Best way to go.

I have enjoyed learning photography by using this camera. Nikon has made a dslr that is easy enough for beginners and allows for growth. The Nikon image quality is outstanding. The lens selection from Nikon, Sigma and Tamron is extensive.

Very versatile dslr

I bought this camera as a supplement to my D600.  What I like about the camera is it is light, a shade over 2 pounds with the lens (D600 is 5.5 pounds with battery grip) and that makes a difference on long hikes (when I want to have a camera).   It has most of the features of the D600, plus it has that swivel screen on the back which enables you to hold the camera high over your head (as in a crowd) and still get the shot.

It is all I needed

I always shot my F3 Nikon [film] so that most or all of the editing was done in the viewfinder and proper exposure.

I mention this because I shoot with my new D5300 in a similar fashion. The array of controls provided with this beauty allow me to essentially shoot to near-final image right on the spot. 

With the big 24 megapixel files and my computer software I can quickly tweak my shots and print.  

I also really like the ability to pair the D5300 with my laptop or my phone in the field or in a more controlled indoor set up.

using the phone or I pad or laptop to make shots and see the images on the bigger screens is great. I can speak with the person[s] I am photographing in a more relaxed manner and it just seems that I make better photos this way besides keeping the shots in the computer right away.

using the ability to email directly from the camera is easy and lets me quickly share anything I am shooting without delay.

This camera body is of carbon fiber construction so it is light but strong since carbon fiber is what modern aircraft components are largely made from.

there are some professionals that will want some features that the D5300 does not have but for 90%+ of the photography I will ever do, the D5300 is perfect.

when I consider the very good pricing for this Nikon then its hard to beat the benefits for the cost.
