UPDATE: Sensor dust

This is an update of an earlier review: Just like all early purchasers of the D600, my sensor spots finally showed themselves this month. I will be sending it back to Nikon for repair ASAP.

Wow! Big step up!

This was an upgrade from a D200. Easy to use, hold and navigate menus. Feels lighter than my old d200. No oil spots I read about either. Even in Auto mode, the pictures are amazing! Cant wait to get some new lenses!!

Great!

Just buy it! You will be happy. The D800 is not worth the extra price, size, and weight for the vast majority of users.

Good full frame camers, but...

It's a good camera. I had a lot of nice pictures from it. However, there are too many dust/oil particles on the sensor at the first hundred clicks that can't be cleaned by regular means. Nikon has to fix this problem quickly to bring back the customers.

Awesome affordable FX Camera

This is a very good camera for the price. Given that it retains pretty much all of the pro level features of the D800 except for the live view aperture control, this is a bargain for the price. I have been using it for a month and a half now and loved it! it is feature rich, has two user settings save modes, quick access shooting modes for quick shots which are fairly accurate with the shutter speed and white balance. The video is outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone moving up to FX from a DX. Worth every penny.

D600 Not Perfect, But Very Groovy.

I am an Architectural and Commercial photographer reasonably well published here in the south. So I don't shoot sports, or wildlife. The only fast moving things I chase are grand-kids. So With that in mind here we go. Architectural, landscape, Commercial: I love the full frame sensor because my 20mm is always a 20mm. And the large full frame viewfinder comfy for hours at a time. and If I get tired of the viewfinder I can snap a few quick setup shots and see them on my iPAD with the Wi-fi adapter. Who Thought of this?? It is Genius. If my camera is in some hard to reach place for a good angle on a building, No Problem: I Wi-FI it. Grand Kids: The 24-85mm Kit lens has VR that really works. I shoot the kids inside at night at a 15th of a second with great results. Not the same as a Gitzo, but worthy of the fridge. The auto exposure is the same I would choose manually about 90% of the time. I am old and Grumpy... I don't like things that don't work so this is the first time in 40 years of photography that I would let the camera focus, meter and white balance for me. Does the D600 do everything? I have no idea. It does the two things I want: 1. Color quality that gets me published in some top magazines, and 2. VR & auto exposure that gets the grand kids with no trouble. I can recommend the D600 for these endeavors.

Good camera except dusty sensor

The IQ of this camera is so amazing. The kit lens is very good also. If not for the dusty sensor after 100 clicks, I would keep it forever.

Nice camera and lens

The light weight of camera and kit lens makes it great for traveling.

What a Camera!!

My first camera 8 yrs old was the Nikon D50. (6MP)It was a great starter camera. I'm a hobbiest or can't say a semi-professional but I do compete successfully in photo contests. I was time to improve my camera. The D600 was an excellent choice. I was in ahhhh in the results. I'm still in ahhh. Ask yourself if you would do it again, yes, with out hesitation!

Love this camera!

I just wanted a new camera body and had read a lot of good reviews about the d600. 24.3 megapixels, FX-format and Full HD 1080p broadcast quality video capabilities, plus a new lens and all the other goodies that came in the package for UNDER 2 thousand dollars? I had to buy it. I was not disappointed. I had been shooting with my Nikon d700 for a few years now and LOVE it, but since I started shooting with the d600 the poor thing has been sitting in it's bag in the closet. The d600 is light and small, which is perfect for me because I'm a small woman with small hands and some of those camera bodies are just too large for me to handle! The images that come out of the d600 are gorgeous! The LCD is larger than my d700, that's pretty cool. I still have to learn where some of the controls are located, they're in different places than I was used to on the d700 but that will come in time, I've only had it about a week so far. I love the 24mp! Those pictures are huge! My computer has no trouble handling the larger files. I have not had time to learn how to use the video but that will have to wait because I'm having way too much fun shooting pictures with this camera. My favorite lens to use on this camera so far is my Nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR. That combination has given me GORGEOUS results. I shoot landscapes and wildlife and have been out several times with the camera, shooting sunsets too. I highly recommend this camera.

Great Camera

I bought this as a backup and feel it does the job well. Condidered the D800 just did not require that exceptional detail and especially those large RAW files. The only thing I could possibly say is that it does feel quite a bit smaller than my D4. It should it is not a D4 Just saying it does take some getting use to in my hands. As far as Adorama... another perfect buying experience

So far, so good

I own a D300s. A D70 was replaced by the D600. I appreciate the feel and weight of this camera - obviously consumer quality comapred to D300s but still substantial enough. The user settings - U1/U2 are really great - for example I set them up for night photography - U2 for the actual picture, U1 for a high ISO picture to quickly get exposure right. Very useful. The only concern I had about it was the reported sensor oil/dust. I see none after about 150 images. Nikon responded to my concern with something like "We acknowledge no problem. We'll honor our warranty if you have problems." The kit deal with 24-85 lens was just too good to pass up, so I took the risk. I'll see, but I like it very much so far. Full frame has some real possibilities for sharp, rich images.
