Had a d5100 but was being let down by the limited AF and missing a lot of shots. I had considered a d7*** series cameras but I has always wanted to get into full frame so I figured I'd take a shot on a used d700. Wow, I'm glad I did. I got one listed as "good" so I wasn't sure what I'd get. The thing is great, rubber pads have a little wear and a couple scratches but who cares. Shutter count is only 55k to. I was hoping I would get to use some of my dx lenses, at least in the middle of their zoom or with some crop but honestly the results were a little disappointing. That disappointment being said I'm blown away with how cheap you can get the older lenses without the AF-S motor used. The build quality is stout all the setting you need to change have buttons on the body so you don't have to dig through menus. Photo quality is excellent despite being older with low pixel count, I'm not much of a pixel peeper, I prefer to just look at the photo full screen on a 4k monitor to judge quality, not zoomed into 8000%. Photos are sharp on my 50mm 1.8, but I got sharp photos on my d5100 to, but the depth of field of the fx sensor is something you can't quantify until you see it. This thing just blows out the background into cream in a way my d5100 couldn't. I only print 13x19 so the 12mp sensor is fine for my needs and probably yours to. If you need a file that can print on a poster you're probably not searching for bargain basement deals on 12 year old cameras... I will say this thing is big, heavy, and loud compared to my d5100, like really loud. That doesn't matter to me one bit but if you try to use it to take pictures in the front row of a wedding or in church you might get some dirty looks... I will say this is can't really be used as a point and shoot like the newer dx cameras can, you need to at least have an understanding of how cameras work and how to adjust the various AF and AE settings, along with the usual exposure parameters. The settings are a little to complex for that, you would need to know how to adjust all the settings just to get it into something resembling "auto mode". But if you've outgrown your dx camera and are looking for a little more control and capability then this thing is great.

Absolutely loving my D700!!! I use it for portraiture, landscape and real estate photography. It has been a perfect upgrade from my D90.

First of all, I love this camera. I've used the D800 and D700, and honestly, the D700 has a faster shutter speed and doesn't take up a huge amount of space with a ridiculous 36megapixel sensor. I bought this from Adorama, and I'm very pleased. The condition is nearly perfect and their customer service was excellent. I didn't receive some cables and a camera strap, but after emailing customer service, I received one in a few days! Thank you Adorama! I just recommended more friends to buy the D700 from Adorama.

I've been shooting with a Nikon D700 for several years. Nikon has discontinued this model, so I was very pleased to find a good used one. It's now my primary camera.

I shoot full time for a living and my gear needs to work under all kinds of conditions. Even though does not put a rating on their weather sealing, it seems to work.

This is my 4th D700. I shoot weddings so I need backups. My first D700 was bought in 2009 and is still in service today with over 218,000 actuations. It is tough to beat this camera. The low light performance is amazing and the dependability of the camera has yet to be matched.

I own the D600 and love it, but purchaesd the D700 primarily for its potential to shoot 8fps with grip for sports assignments. The D700 immediately feels better in my hand and the additional button for AF-ON was a big bonus. Despite having less megapixels and lower dynamic range than the D600, the D700 is still very capable and I would recommend it to anyone. Not to mention I can shoot at ISO 6400 on the D700 and know I'll have acceptable images.

This is a great camera with excellent image quality, excellent autofocus capability, build quality, good low ISO performance and ergonomics. It is hard to take a bad shot. Cons: 1) The camera is a bit heavy 2) I had trouble with the software installation on mac. May be it is a one off issue. 3) Beyond ISO 4000, the images are a bit noisy.

Cons: 1) ISO performace above 4000 is not that usable. 2) The Nikon Sofware does not seem to work properly in Mac. 3) The picture data is not visible after dowloading the pics to laptop. I previously used pentax and it showed the picture details like ISO/Focal length/shutter speed etc. 4) The shutter is a bit loud. Pros: 1) Great picture quality and images in ISO 3200 are very nice as well. 2) Auto focus is very good. 3) Well built body Overall staisfied with the product.

I purchased this camera used as an upgrade to my D200. And while it has some signs of wear. It works perfectly. The jump in picture quality is noticeable to my family and clients. I couldn't be happier. Also the shipping was ultra fast (I opted for the overnight) and relatively inexpensive

I own the d300 as well as the d700. I was expecting much better iso from the d700 and was disappointed. The shutter speed only goes to 8k which is the same as my d300. This camera came with a very dirty sensor as well.

For 30 years I have owned Nikon cameras and when the D700 was released, I knew it was a great camera. Unfortunately, at the time, there was no way I could afford a camera of that magnitude. So at the time I bought a D80. Great camera, and I was able to take great shots, but I have always been frustrated with the low-light ability particularly when I needed to use a longer lens. I honestly never even thought about buying a used camera, and then I saw this D700 pop up on Adorama in "D" condition. I couldn't resist and bought it immediately. The camera is already everything I hoped it would be. The pictures are amazing! I spend my days anxiously waiting to get home to take more pictures with it. I will also comment that Adorama was great. The product was as described -- it essentially looks and performs like a brand new camera. And I received the camera very quickly and well wrapped. I couldn't be happier with the camera and my experience with Adorama. Thank you.

I bought this used camera for a backup body. The quality said it was an E-, and to be honest, this camera had only a tiny scratch on the bottom from tripod use. It is in tip top shape, and I am so glad I found it!

I love this camera. By far my favorite ever. With the new D800 that costs twice as much, this camera is a bargain. Adorama is a trustworthy used dealer. I would buy a used camera body from them anytime.

I have had the camera for only ten days, and have only used it for some bird photography, but I do believe I will enjoy even more than my D300s. I look forward to using this camera for landscape photography of the Palo Duro Canyon, some macro shooting of flowers in the area, and some weddings coming up soon. My Nikon D300s has done great in those situations, but I see the D700 as better in those settings. I will use my D300s when I shoot migratory birds here in the Texas Panhandle.

Wow. All of those people weren't lying when I'd hear about the D700. Yes, it's been out for a few years and the D800 is out now. But if you're not planning on blowing up pictures for billboards, don't have the space to store huge RAW files, and don't need video then the D700 is perfect for you. You'll see the advance in image quality immediately when you move up from a consumer DSLR to the D700. The only thing I wish the D700 had was dual memory card slots, which is something the D800 does have. Great camera.

Initially I bought a D700 a few years ago for my personal camera but the quality of the images is so good, the camera is so built so tough and it is so versatile that it became the go-to camera for my job. That camera as been taken into situations that exposed it to heat, dust, moisture, being clunked around in field equipment and used in close proximity to high-voltage electrical components. It has performed consistently well throughout, hasn't skipped a beat. It is reliable like no other Nikon or Canon product we use here. When it was time to cycle out an older Nikon in the company camera fleet, I began the research, thinking I'd probably go with the D800 since the price tag on another D3x or even a D4 wasn't justifiable in our economically-constrained budget these days. Then I started the research... I use a production camera to shoot video, so didn't need to pay extra for that feature on the D800. I require full-frame because many of the images I provide are used in large visual displays and nearly all of the Nikkor lenses are full frame as well... In addition, the comparison shots I was taking between the D700 and the rented D800 I tried out were virtually identical – save in overly extreme 6400+ ISO scenarios (where the D800 seems to perform slightly better) that I wouldn't have a reason to be shooting in anyway. The only drawback is that is a bit heavy to carry around in the field, but I think it's a worthwhile trade-off for a sturdily-built work horse camera. Once I managed to find a D700 in stock, I jumped on it knowing full well that model is probably going to be very hard to find in another year or so. Very glad the D800 was released, thereby pushing the price on the D700 down. Thanks Nikon, everyone won when you did that!

This camera is as everyone says. I will not bore you with all my details. All I will say is I came from a Nikon D40 I used for 6 years to a D90 last year to a D700 just now. This camera is fantastic and I recommend getting it at a discount price now! I didn't need the hassle or headaches of the D800 and went with a less expensive, more managable (pixel wise), and almost perfect camera. Adorama was awesome, shipped it to me perfectly, and had it the next day. Thanks!

I just upgraded from a D80 and the difference between the two is like night and day. The ISO capabilities alone make this camera worth the purchase. The ages are stunning and I would definitely recommend this camera.

This is a step up from my D300s. Controls are almost identical so it was an easy transition. The autofocus is fast and sharp. The images are so sharp. I little bit bulkier than the D300s. Worth the extra weight. Couldn't justify the cost to get the D800 at this time.

I was a little hesitant at first to purchase a used camera, especially when I was going to pay 2K for a full frame. I took the leapt trusting that Adorama would help me out in the event that I found something wrong with the product. As soon as it arrived, I was ecstatic at the almost new condition in which I received the camera. The actuations were minimal compared to the life of the shutter. The camera has performed on point since day 1. No problems yet.

Amazing camera! Better than Canon 5D!
By Enrique F.
If you do studio work, you already know you need a full-frame camera for low-noise. Right now, the D700 is the best for low-noise. 12mp is ample for medium-large prints (24mp is for huge gigantic posters that no one will ever print - don't waste your money on that). If you want clean, crisp pictures, the D700 just works every time, even in low-light. In fact, the D700 is the best in low-light. I have seen the Canon 5D and worked with the Canon 40D and the D700 blows them away. Use this ...

A great camera
By Scott
This is probably one of the best purchases I've made in the way of cameras. The high ISO performance is phenomenal, as is the burst rate. Unlike Canons, almost any F-mount lens since 1977 will work with this camera, and pre-AI lenses from as far back as 1959 can be modified to fit. (My oldest is a circa 1964 200mm Nikon Q lens.) This is really the camera the D300 should have been since it is essentially the best of the D3 in a smaller package. It may not have a movie mode like the 5D Mar...
