Questions & Answers

Denny L : Can I use this camera with nikon lens DX AF-S nikkor 18-55mm ?Tom B : I think so. The D80 will take DX & non DX lensesWILLIAM O : I will assume that the lens you mean is this one: Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom Lens. With some very limited exceptions Nikon says that any "D" or "G" (the ones without an aperture ring) lens will work with the D80. Furthermore, the D80 has a "DX" size sensor like most of the consumer-level Nikon DSLR's so the lens will provide an image over the complete sensor area so that is no problem. Consequently, I believe that the lens will function fine with D80. In fact, with the AF-S feature (focus motor in the lens) it should work better than the older AF-D (focus driven by camera motor and somewhat weak gears) version.CLARENCE S : The camera will work with any AF-S lens but the image will be cropped. Nikon AF-S lenses are meant for use on cropped sensor cameras (i.e. D7000, D5000, D60, etc...).Steve C : Yes.NELSON C : I have a D50,D70,D80,& D7000,all use the same size lens.Yes.DEVIN D : Hello, yes you will be able to use your 18-55 mm lens with this body.
Shopper : Has this camera ever been sold or is it a store model?Tom B : Not sure. My recollection is that it was refurbished. Do not know its previous history. Has been fine since I bought itSUSAN M : Refurbished means that something was wrong with the product so it was shipped back to the manufacturer, repaired, and sent back to be re-sold as a "refurbished" product. I am a high school photojournalism teacher and I purchase refurbished equipment all of the time and have yet to have a significant problem with any of it. Keep in mind the equipment is being subjected to high school students who are... shall we say... less than careful with the equipment. :-)
Shopper : does it take video?RACHEL S : I love this camera!! It takes amazing photo's as well as video, especially for the price.VAL H : The Nikon D80 does not do video.ROBERT C : i don't think so but there is alot of things that i havent used yet but it is a very good camera beutiful picturesworkes very goodCINDY G : No it does notKELLY R : No. The Nikon 5100 doesSteve C : No. The first DSLR to feature video was the D90.PHILIP F : No video capability in mineHAZEM F : No it does not.KRISHNA P : No it does not. Buy a canon instead. CANON T3i / 60D or 7D

Love it

purchased a D80 several years ago and have used it a lot (20,000 Clicks) it has been reliable and given no trouble. Purchased this body as a backup just in case my first one gets broken on a trip to Alaska

Awesome camera for the money!

Purchased my first Nikon D80 back in November 2006 and I still have it. Wanted to get another D80 so I would not have to change lenses all the time especially with my AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VRII. I decide to get the refurbished by Nikon USA D80 from Adorama. Shipped ASAP and to my surprize the D80 was like brand new. I swear it was never used. I set it up right away and started taking pictures. Think I will put my lense above on this camera. Five of my pictures taken with the D80 have made it into Calendars. You can't go wrong. Easy to use and set up.

Solid, flexible digital body for non-pro

I purchased this refurbished D80 as a back-up to my original D80 when that one developed a malfunction after seven years of use. Overall the D80 is a good digital base for the non-pro to transition from film photography while still making use of an investment in Nikkor lenses. The body allows the user a complete range of automation from point and shoot to full manual operation, in both exposure and focus. I purchased the original to transition from a manual focus, match-needle Nikkormat. To be consistent with my extended previous Nikkormat experience I mostly use the D80 on manual focus, in the program mode (which allows easy adjusting of shutter speed vs f-stop for a given exposure level) with the center-weighted metering option. I use the camera with a range of Nikkor lenses for landscape, nature and wildlife photography as I travel around the country in the RV that is my home. I particularly like, and make use of, the ability to sharpen or soften the image contrast for different situations. The only disadvantage of the D80 is the small image sensor which makes all my lenses about 50% longer effective focal length. The refurbished unit appears and functions as nearly new with only a few scratches on the protective shield for the rear display. As a Nikon refurbished product the only drawback is the very limited 90 day warranty, which I corrected my purchasing a Mack 3 year service contract.

Great product...As Promised

Wanted a Nikon body that would use my existing lenses and not have any "video" usage.

Great replacement

This was a replacement for my Nikon D80 that I had for years (I discovered that my old Nikon didn't take kindly to being submerged in lake water). So far I am very happy with the replacement. Image quality is perfect, and just as easy to use as my old camera. I would recommend the Nikon D80 to anyone, this is a great all around camera.

Learn to shoot in manual

I do a lot of waterfall and landscape imaging and on manual control and low ISO the D80 is outstanding. The shutter is fast enough for action shots but at ISO of 1600 there is a lot of noise in the image and is unsuitable for bracketing an HDR image. for fast shots keep the ISO as low as possible and get the F stop number below 5 if you can. It has been a great first SLR camara!!

Wonderful Camera Great Price

I just recieved the D80 about 1 week ago and have been shooting about 100 shots a day since then. It is an easy camera to learn the controls and menu system are functional and well placed. Love the price and battery life is excellent. The only complaint has mostly to do with the dusty climate I live in. If you live in a dusty climate purchasing the firefly or some other sensor cleaner and a good lense cleaning system is a must.

A great upgrade to the D40

I used my D80 with a 10-year old nikkor 24-120mm AF-D lens. it focuses with the lens but sometimes the AF hunts. for a refurb unit it looks brand new. my unit had 1500 actuations when i got it. no internal or external problems. flash works perfectly (works both in commander (with my SB-600) and TTL (stand-alone). [...] is comparable to 2nd hand units. but i would rather get this refurb unit because i know that Nikon made this unit almost brand new.

Great except for focus

I like this far better than than my S9100 digicam. You're not just paying for optics; you're paying for skill and commitment. The menu system is great and extremely legible, but well-placed, well-thought-out buttons give you shortcuts. Two complaints: Personally, I can't easily afford to be mugged for this, and when you use latched-in Single-Servo autofocus, apparently although it doesn't readjust the focus when you push the shoot button, it will refuse to shoot if, at that time, it doesn't think the shot is focused. All I know is, it refused to shoot, and I'm confused and angry. I now use Continuous-Servo with latched-in autofocus ("AF-On", I think they call it). You just need to make sure it did succeed. Why don't I use manual focus? The lenses are no good for it; they weren't honestly designed for it; too sensitive, and no optical aids. But I suppose I'd buy the thing again.

Are you feeling lucky

Well, mine didn't work at all and I had to send it to service center. I guess it really depends on luck.

Best deal on a D80 anywhere

EXIF said that my first shot on this refurbished camera was the 647th shot it had taken in its life. I have now put another 1,000 shots on it, and for all intents and purposes, it is a new camera for ~65% of its MSRP when it was newly released. It works flawlessly, just like a D80 is supposed to work. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the refurbishment (whatever that was - who cares?) and Adorama's pricing, aggressive even when compared to used cameras with tens of thousands of shutter actuations selling elsewhere. I paired it with the Mack warranty - which is arguably better than the Nikon US warranty because you can get service off shore as well as in the US - and feel very comfortable overall.

Adorama delivers refurbished D80 bodies

Save almost $[...] with a refurbished camera that Nikon made like new. Buy a Mack Camera Warranty for $5[...] and you can have a trouble-free camera for 3 years. Net savings pays for the 18-55mm standard lens.Adorama tells it like it is. They don't publish lowball prices on the internet for unknown origin cameras and then charge for the box, battery, manual, cables and everything else that shound come with it. Not to mention they advertise with a bunch of different names and you're not sure who they really are.

It is a good product to buy.

The difference of a new one, is the box.

The D80 features a 10.2 effective megapixel Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor. Optimized to capture sharp details & yield extraordinarily high-resolution images, this new sensor provides plenty of freedom to crop creatively or print impressive enlargements. And its class-leading resolution is only matched by itsability to outperform its predecessors.

One of the key advances in the D80 is its high-resolution image-processing engine. A dedicated new high-performance system large scale integrated processing chip greatly accelerates performance on all levels, while also consuming less power than its predecessors.

The D80 starts up in a mere 0.18 seconds, so is ready to shoot immediately. Its short shutter release time lag of just 80 milliseconds helps ensure instant response while shooting, as does the fast & precise focus of the new 11-area AF system with AF-assist illuminator. Images are processed & recorded extremely fast while preview images are displayed instantly.

Capable of shooting a rapid 3 frames per second in continuous bursts of up to 100 JPEG images, the D80 makes it easier to stay on top of the action or to capture those unexpected yet precious picture opportunities.

The EN-EL3e rechargeable lithium-ion battery increases energy capacity to deliver enough power to shoot as many as 2,700 images per charge.

Consistently dependable exposure is the hallmark of Nikon's exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II. Exclusive in-camera image editiing features under the D80's retouch menu help insure consistently satisfying results & greater creative freedom in the field.

Nikon's highly robust i-TTL flash control evaluates flash exposure with greater precision to achieve better automatic flash balance & deliver outstanding results. The D80 incorporates a large, new 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD monitor that provides an ultra-wide 170-degree viewing angle. Images can be previewed at up to 25 times magnification to help accurately assess sharpness.

Refinements to the new 11-area AF system ensure consistently fast & precise focus acquisition under varying shooting conditions, all while adding effective new focusing options. The D80 incorporates 7 Digital Vari-Programs (Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Macro Close up, Sports, Night Landscape, Night Portrait)

Optimization of sharpening, contrast, color, saturation & hue is controlled by the choice of Normal, Softer, Vivid, More Vivid, Portrait, Custom & Black & White. A new eye-level optical viewfinder features large magnification (0.94x) & helps ensure a clear view for precise composition. The diopter adjustment control knob also makes it easier to fine tune the view to match eyesight.

The D80 offers a variety of built-in slideshow options, including style selections such as the Pictmotion option that control transitions & background music. Enjoy on the camera's 2.5-inch LCD monitor, or on a television with audio when connected via supplied AV Cable.
