Purchased this camera after a few year break in photography. Decided to slowly get back into it while deployed to start my own business when I return home. Purchased the kit with the slinger shoulder bag, 18-105 lens, software, card reader, and spare battery. Starting with the body: It's definitely and "advanced amateur" body. Very functional and ergonomical. Everything is easily located, and easy to use. The view finder is nice, and the info within it is easily observed, but not distracting. The backlit display on top of the body is well laid out, and easy to read. The shutter release is predictable, and at half press for focus has a definite stop before snapping the shot. Not a big "Auto" mode user, but I have tried it, and it seems pretty accurate. The menu is nicely organized into main and submenus according to functions you are trying to access. The DX format is nice for general photography, and only really becomes a problem when you want a wide angle shot. The ISO is acceptable up to about 2000ish, after that the noise isn't acceptable for my taste. The continuous shooting speed at about 5fps is good, but not with the supplied memory card in the kit, after about 6 shots it lags briefly between shots for card to catch up. However with a faster card this doesn't seem to be a problem. Having been a CF user in the past I was apprehensive about a DSLR using only SD, but my apprehension was obviously misguided. The Lens: autofocus is fast and accurate in most situations, altho in low light with out AF Illum. it does seem to struggle a bit. I have noticed a SLIGHT chromatic aberration and color fringing at both the wide and long ends of the lens, photoshop does clear this up easily, but it can be a bit of a nuissance. Otherwise it is very clear, sharp, and accurate. I haven't used the card reader since my computer has one built in. The bag, I've found is suitable for quick carry and access, but shrinks quickly with accessories, and becomes less convenient. Currently have the D90 w/18-105 attached, and flashpoint vert grip. SB700 flash, and 50mm f/1.8d lens. Bag is full. Could maybe fit some filters in outside pockets, but nothing more useful inside bag. The Software: The supplied software "photolooks" seems a bit complicated to use for what it is. Doesn't really have much versatility either in my opinion. I've played with it a bit, but so used to photoshop that its just easier for me now. In the near future plan on purchasing a D700 w/70-200 f/2.8 for my primary cam for business, and keeping D90 as a backup. Don't get me wrong, great cam, Love it, love using it, just think need that extra little bit of accuracy outof the 700. I would highly recommend the D90 to anyone who is serious about taking great pictures, but not in need of a pro cam, or FX sensor.
