Most Liked Positive Review

I love it!

This is a great product. It helps me with my objective of manual focus. It's worth every penny invested.

Great but last one week

Great quality, but even though I've heard that it does not has a good fit to the camera I have bought it. Excellent, but after two weeks in the field it has dropped and is lost somewhere in my birding forest. Maybe for a study user It will last. Just rub it in your clothes and it will detach and fall from your camera :-(

Magnifying eyepiece

By

from Seattle

I bought this because I wear glasses and I thought if I used this, I wouldn't have to wear my glasses. It does help to make things more in focus without wearing my glasses and with a little adjustment of the diopter, it is pretty good.

Almost as big as 100% mag

By

from Chicago  -  Professional

I installed these in all three of my cameras: D3s, D3, and D700. Initially I purchased only one but I loved the mag. Visually it appears to be almost as big as 100% mag--just like looking in a hole with a 50mm. Cons: It's very clear towards the center area but it's a bit distorted/unsharp on the sides. I got used to that. You either live with it or you don't. I think users are 50/50 on that.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I use Zeiss on my D800 and this magnifying eyepiece helps nail manual focus. Great alternative to a focusing screen.

glasses are taboo

By

from Denver, CO  -  Professional

If you shoot without eyeglasses this is a great improvement on the Nikon viewfinder, otherwise it will greatly reduce your angle of view.

Great for it's intended purpose.I recommend this for all photographers, not just for those of us who are seniors.

The eyepiece helps tremendously in bringing out the details of the scene you are viewing.

Great Helpful Item D700 AND Pentax 67!

By

from Brooklyn, NY  -  Semi-Professional

This has just enough magnification that it helps. Its not a huge difference for the price though, My vision is progressively getting worse and worse as I get older and the DK-17M makes me feel normal. I only wish nikon made higher powered magnifiers. Another great bonus is that it fits great on the Pentax 6X7 (67)! If you use this with a DK-19 Cup on the P67, you just have to replace the sheath that secures the cup ring in place with a couple of O-Rings, otherwise the DK-19 pops right off, and you're out $8 bucks (which I learned the hard way).

Great for macro work

By

from Lima, Peru  -  Professional

It makes focusing easier in macro photography. However it reduces the field of view in the viewfinder of my Nikon D700 making it not useful for other kind of photography.

Works on D700

By

from Sandy, UT  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

My purpose was to aid manual focusing for macro, tele, AI lenses, etc., and it does noticeably help. Quality of construction and optics is excellent. I wear eyeglasses and do not intend to use it with an eyecup. It brings the already great viewfinder image on a D700 to perhaps very slightly larger or nearly identical as compared to a 1971 film Nikon F (my gold standard) -- based on viewing F and D700, each with its 85/1.8, first viewing separately, then together with one on each eye! (as scientific as I intend to get) Most eyeglass wearers will likely need to shift a bit to see corners (which I also experience on a Nikon F) and to see the bottom display - a personal preference as to whether that's annoying or not, but it's fine for me and I may just always keep it on. I wish Nikon had provided a small hard case to keep it or the regular eyepiece safely at hand or attached to the camera strap in case a quick change is wanted. Very cool gadget - I'm quite satisfied with it.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
DARYL B  The eyepiece and DK-19 eyecup combination makes the viewfinder image larger, helps position the eye and reduces light other than from the viewfinder. This combination is a "must" for Nikon cameras.
Shopper  Will this fit nikon d3s?
MARK W  Yes
IRVING S  So, does this work with the Nikon D800E?
GUY E  No clue. I have a D700. I suspect they are the same. I would check the Nikon USA website to find out.
