This is a really bad product that essentially you have to buy in order to be sure your equipment is covered under warranty. I have all kinds of high performance lithium batteries across a variety of products. Even batteries from Chinese makers will hold a charge for a year. As a customer I would think this basic feature of a battery would be extremely high on Nikon's product development requirements, especially for an item that is going to retail. Inexcusably, these batteries drastically lose their charge over a period of several weeks. My old Nikon batteries back in the days of the D300 and D700 never had this issue. At first I thought I had received a couple of lemons from a bad batch, but I now have a half dozen of these and they all discharge dramatically when not in use which really dilutes the value of being able to toss a couple spares in your bag with the confidence that they will work in a pinch at a later date. On the plus side, a freshly-charged battery performs well and usually lasts all day the field, but I have been forced into needing to charge all my batteries the night before I shoot and it's an issue that just should not exist in 2018. Many times I've reached for a spare and popped it in the camera only to find it fully discharged. I would love to see this fixed in future models. Consumer-grade 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries last at least 10 times as long in storage.

Well it's nice to see the price of this battery come down. Although it does have a longer life than the D700 batteries. Worth the investment.

Since the D500 is a power 'Hungry' camera I am pleased that the EL-18 has the power to get me through a long days shoot with power to spare.

I bought this battery to replace the Green Extreme EN-EL18 Battery Pack, which never held a charge well and had calibration issues nearly from the beginning. My advice is to pony up for the Nikon (OEM) battery and save yourself the headache or potential disaster of not having power when you need it! That being said, don't count on getting the advertised number of shots per charg (why I gave it 4 stars); keep an eye on your energy levels.

Don't buy off brand batteries for your Nikon. I did that once and wasted my money because the off-brand was unreliable and never held a charge. The nikon battery might cost more but it does what it's supposed to do!

I decided a long time ago NOT to put off-brand batteries in $2-4,000 camera bodies. This is like putting discount store oil in your BMW. So I was pleased to get a genuine Nikon battery at a very good price. My only issue now is, I would like to buy replacements for the white plastic caps I have lost for previous EN-EL18s, and apparent NOBODY sells them! The label on the protective cap says they are important to prevent electrical shorts -- but apparently not important enough to offer as replacements.

This was bought as a second battery for my D4. I'm replacing an off-brand battery I bought earlier. The Nikon OEM costs twice as much, but the difference in quality is apparent. My Nikon batteries hold a charge longer, significantly longer, and on an all-day shoot that difference matters.

This is the real deal. If you spent the money for a D4, keep it Nikon!

The EN-EL 18 is a rechargeable Li-ion battery that is used to power the D4 and D4S Nikon D-SLR camera.
Delivers approximately 2600 shots per charge (CIPA battery consumption standard). The battery uses the Nikon MH-26 quick charger.
