The GPS unit is great. The cable is poor. It breaks with monotonous regularity and becomes an expensive irritation to keep replacing. The problem lies where the cable meets the 10 point pin: this junction bends easily due to the cable design resulting in fracturing of the wires within

I've gone though 3 of these cables already. The cable needs better stress relief on either connector. Nikon does not acknowledge the problem by just ignoring requests for a replacement. This is the worst cable ever. Just try buying a cheap third party alternative. It will probably be better (and cheaper) that this cable.

The worst cable I've Owned, Now at the third cable. Contacted Nikon for a replacement and they just won't back up the product. The main issue seem to be poor design. Cable fries at the stress points, specially at the connector to the camera.

This cable is in the way a lot and uses the ten pin port that I use for my remote cable. I have to buy a new one because my old one pulled apart from snagging on things. But it is much too expensive.

My cable lasted 2 years before it broke. There are two flaws, the elimination of either would probably have saved the cable. First, it sticks out to the side. Putting it into a bag stresses the reinforced portion of the cable. Do this enough times and it will break leaving wires exposed. Second, my fingers have trouble screwing and unscrewing the connection. If it were easier to attach and remove, I would do so.

Location, location, location! Lost, lost, lost! I love the GP-1 and having the GPS information. However, this cord is the bane of the GP-1's existence. To build such rock hard, quality cameras and produce subpar accessories makes no sense. The issue of the protrusion of the 10-pin connection is real. There needs to be a revised cable that exits up and not out and overhanging the side of the camera. Also, the cost of the replacement cord, that is going to suffer the same fate is too high.

I bought the GPS-1 from Nikon about a year ago. I will say I love the ability to gather GPS location information in the field. Very Accurate! BUT I really don't like giving up the 10 pin socket (I use it for a remote trigger) so design wise it could be better. Also when connected to my D300 or D700 it attaches with the wire angled off in a direction that forces the wire to twist around in an ackward way that puts stress on the base of the connection.

I purchased a GP-1 Jan 2009, and by October the CA-10 cord was frayed and GP-1 was unusable. CA-10 was replaced under warranty, and as of July 2010, just like the first one, the replacement CA-10 cord is frayed, but this time it's still making a connection and GP-1 is working. Very disappointed that the Nikon won't send another replacement cord, and I have to buy a new CA-10 for $45. I had carefully taped both CA-10 cords with electrical tape for reinforcement, too! And FYI the GP-1 can take 2-5 minutes to acquire a signal sometimes, even outside with clear view of sky. Re-acquisition from powering up is faster once initial acquisition is made.

The GP-1 will continue to work with frayed copper wires exposed. The cable will sustain damage from leaving the GP-1 on the hotshoe and continuously putting the camera in a camera bag and taking it out. The cable makes a large loop from the D700 to the GP-1 which will bend while stored in the bag. A shorter cable, wrapped in mesh would last much longer.

The specs on the GP-1 go to 0 deg C, 32 deg F on the cold side. For an outdoor photographer in Canada, that isn't very cold and I didn't read that spec carefully before purchasing. After a couple of hours outside at -20 my cable stiffened and the insulation broke while attached to the strap.

If Nikon re-designs the cable to stay out of the way of your hands and the camera strap...and not come apart from the plugs, this will be a great device.

The Nikon GP-1 CA10 is a 10-pin replacement cable for GP-1 GPS unit. It is for connection to the 10-pin remote terminal of supported cameras
