You can't beat the price. I wanted to add a little bulk to my D40 and it did the trick. The front is textured so it blends well with the camera. I'm satisfied with this purchase and the shipping was super fast too!

Had this for about six months...LOVED it. However, it suddenly went dead and took both my batteries w/it - they will not recharge. Had to order additional backup batteries and have never used the grip again.

This Battery Grip is awesome. I have a D5000 and I like the way it compliments the body of the camera. The instructions on how to remove the battery door on the camera was a little vague but I got it and it fits perfect. I especially like the feel of it in my hand. I don't like that I have to change settings on the camera to use the shutter release on the grip. I placed the door in the slot on the grip as shown in the instructions but I am not a fan as it rattles around and makes it sound like the camera is broken. Overall I am enjoying my battery grip for now.

Purchased two, one for each of my Nikon D3000 cameras. Was pleasantly surprised at the ease of installation, form, and fit. Low price was also a plus.

Very lightweight, matches the texture of my D40x perfectly, snug fit. Only con is the fact that you have to change the shutter setting to remote to use the side shutter button. BUT...I don't take too many vertical photos, so this isn't a big deal to me. Otherwise, fantastic product, would recommend to anyone with a D40/D40x/D60, well worth the price.

I bought this for my D5000 and the biggest complaint i have is that you have to set the camera to remote shutter release to use the button on the grip, and then set it back to normal to use the camera shutter release, which takes away the point and convenience of having the 2nd shutter release button. the grip doesnt fit the camera body well , the contacts dont always connect, frequently gives me a battery error message. I was excited when i found a grip to fit the d5000 but was very disappointed 5 minutes after opening the box

buy it because: the price is great...works great while on vacation...makes holding the d3000 solid like one piece and flush...it makes the camera bigger like it was made for it...no issues...great item... don't buy it: if you want a name brand battery grip like a nikon product...and if you are at that point, you better buy ALL nikon accessories like lenses too...

After a considerable amount of research, some not so flattering on the fit, finish and quality of the 'aftermarket grips'; knowing I still I still wanted to try one, I took a chance. The FLASHPOINT Grip matches my D40 in color and texture, has a slot to hold the factory battery door (pull up to 45deg snap out)and fits the camera very well. Finally...I would gladly recommend this product to any D40 owner looking to gain the look and feel that this grip provides.

This product worked fine for several months. I preferred to take it off of my camera for recharging. The last time I attempted to take it off, the wheel that you turn broke inside the battery. I was unable to get it off of the camera. The gears inside were broken. I never overtightened the battery grip. It was quite a task to take apart the grip and BREAK the plastic to remove the grip.

The unit did not fit my Nikon D40 properly. The screw to secure the battery pack to the tripod would not tighten enough.Consequently, the camera would turn itself on an off.Not a good thing.

This was purchased for a Nikon D60. The fit and finish is poor, there was a gap between the camera and the grip, no matter how it was installed. This caused hit and miss contact with the battery terminal post in the camera, sometimes it worked and other times you had to "fiddle" until contact was made again. The plastic does not match the camera body well at all, and the feel of the grip is very slippery and cheap. Bottom line, save your money there is a better option for almost the same price.(Check out the Targus grip)

This is an excellent battery grip for the Nikon D40. It doesn't have any of the spurious bells and whistles of some of the higher priced brands, and it doesn't need them. It does two things, and does them both well. It provides more battery power to the D40 and makes it MUCH more comfortable to hold. I would like to give my own thoughts in reference to some of the other comments left by reviewers of this item. One, in regards to the fit of the item, mine fits perfectly. When screwed it, there is NO play in it, no rattle, no wiggles, no anything. It is an excellent fit. In regards to the mismatched finish of the grip versus the D40 plastic, this is true, however I don't feel that it detracts from the item in any way whatsoever. The difference is negligible enough that I honestly feel that no one but the owner would ever notice. This grip makes the small D40 MUCH more comfortable to hold, and gives it a beefier and and much more professional looking appearance. I am thoroughly pleased with this item, and would easily buy it again and again if the need should arise for some reason. If you are considering this item for the reasons I was, to add battery life to the D40, and to give it a beefier feel and appearance, this is THE item you need. It is excellent. 100% Recommended!

Cost effective, BUT...Be aware this grip does not fit very tight to the camera base (Nikon D60) leaving aprox 1/16" gap all the way around. Often times the grip will neeed to be moved back and fourth (adjusted) just to get the battery contacts to touch the cameras internal contacs, due to the poor fit. Of lesser concern but still annoying is that it does not match the camera body very well.If you need functional reliability and a field worthy battery grip of good quality, I would consider looking at others. Bottom line, If you are looking for nothing more than battery longevity and don't use your camera in the field much where readiness counts, than this may be a cost effctive option for you?

I'm a food stylist photographer so when I was asked to shoot a wedding I jumped at it. I knew I'd be taking a lot of pictures so I bought this item. I shot nearly a thousand photos and the battery charge status hadn't even dropped down to the second bar. Stunning. Regarding the door, there's another review on this page that explains it clearly. Open the door halfway and twist/pull with a little force. Slips right out and goes back in even easier. Only drawback is the plastic color and texture doesn't quite match the D40. It's smoother and can look a little like dark gray instead of black in the right light. That one thing aside, I think this item is already a great friend. I haven't taken it off my camera since I first put it on but once and that was just to feel the camera again without it in a comparison sense. I found the D40 more comfortable with this grip. More to grip. This item is also a third or more less expensive than the nearest competitor. Excellent bargain.

Got it here - having read the other reviews, I have to comment: DON'T loose the Nikon Battery door! It'll take a week to get a new one from Nikon parts, cost $2.80us... That said, the battery/grip is 8 Oz, 4X the Nikon stock battery. That isn't a complaint, just to inform... This may throw balance off if used on a tripod with a telephoto lens.

I was in the market for an extra battery for my D40 for travel, and for being in the field for a long time. This accessory killed 2 birds with one stone...it's a great battery that doubles the number of shots you can take AND adds some size a weight to an otherwise light and small camera. i like the feel of the camera with this battery grip attached, and the double cap battery is just an added bonus. Now I can keep my included battery charged and with my kit just in case.Adorama's price was good[...]

I bought this battery grip because it's a nice option to have since it's also a rechargable battery at the same time. I like my Nikon D40x with and without. So it gives me the option to have "two looks" of camera style for a low price. And of course, the grip is also two batteries wrapped into one unit. So it's a win-win situation. If I want to travel and take advantage of my Nikon D40x being small, I'll leave the grip at home. But when I'm shooting things locally, I'll leave it on for the extra power and the nice large handheld grip feel. I gave it five stars even though it's not a Nikon product, nor does it have an additional shutter button. That's ok for it never claimed to be just that. It's simply a battery & grip and it works and charges perfectly. The plastic is not an exact match of the Nikon plastic, but all in all, it looks fine/great and makes the camera more comfortable to hold and professional in its style. It gets five stars from me because it's quality at the low price. I love my purchase. And yes, taking off the Nikon D40, D40x or D60 battery door is easy. Just open it half way and twist it off lightly... pull on one end while it's partially open.. Oh, this grip does have a little storage area for the removed door, so it's always with you. If you travel and want to remove the grip and use your normal batteries, the door is stored inside your grip... Excellent!!!

I found this item very easy to install after reading the reviews here. Otherwise I would have been a bit lost about how to remove the battery door since the item does not come with instructions. The rubber cap that is suppose to cover the power cord socket fell off the first day and continues to fall off. Other than that I like the item very much and it give me quite a few "COOL POINTS" when others that do not have this item see it.

The D40 is a small camera. With the kit lens it comes with its a small light, easy to hold camera very mobile. But you start putting on a heavy flash head or a big heavy lens on it or any combination of the above and it starts getting very very heavy. Because of the small size of the D40 I could only really hold on to it with three fingers (with one on the shutter). The extra inch that this provides is more all that I needed to make it much more comfortable hold with a full load out on the camera. Can't really comment on the battery life or longevity as I haven't run into that yet, nor was that why I got it. It was pretty easy to install, and yes you have to remove the battery door. Its pretty clear that you have to and how to do that. The only thing I wish it had was a shutter release button in portrait.

THIS IS AN AWESOME PART FOR THIS CAMERA AND EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THIS, BUT REMEMBER YOU MUST TAKE OFF THE LID TO YOUR BATTERY DOOR SO YOU CAN GET THIS ITEM ON YOUR CAMERA....MOST OF THE TIME THEY DO NOT EXPLAIN HOW IT'S DONE. BUT BY TAKING A SMALL SCREWDRIVER AND LIGHTLY REMOVING THE DOOR. HOLD ON TO THAT PART JUST INCASE YOU DECIDE 2 GO BACK 2 THE WAY IT WAS.

I use this product to attach to my Nikon D40 to increase the grip, since I have large hands. It also help with the stabilization of the camera. It really makes my camera look professional. The battery life also increases to 1000 shots, before the next recharge (great for vacation). Great product. Nothing to complain about.

I needed to buy a second battery for my brand new D40. I have done film for decades, but this was my first experience in the world of Digital. This battery grip was only a few dollars more than a regular battery, and has more capacity than the OEM replacement battery. (The pkg claims twice the capacity...) So 'why not?'. The order was easy thru Adorama, and it got to me inside of 3 days... But, when it arrived, the only instructions were very basic; the pkg said only to 'remove battery from camera and remove battery door'... I'm too new to this camera, so I didn't know how to do that! and my manual didn't talk about it. I learned that any power accessories for the D40 also need the door removed. I wondered what to do. But, a call to the manufacturer's 800-number got me my answer. The door simply "twists off" out of its slot. (They also use their products and this woman knew what I was talking about and told me not to worry that I'd break something!) She also assured me that the battery door can easily be reinstalled to use the regular battery again, also, should I need to, so again, don't worry about harming your camera. Just be sensibly gentle and twist one side out of the groove, and it pops loose... The rest is EASY! Screw the battery grip onto the camera tripod bolt like any other accessory, and you're done! (Oh, and there is another tripod bolt receptacle on the bottom of the Battery Grip, so you can still tripod mount it all.) So far this battery grip is working flawlessly, and makes this smallish D40 camera fit my huge hands SO MUCH BETTER...! This so far has been a very good purchase. The only reason I don't give it '5-stars' is because more details in the 'how to remove battery door' would be the appreciated. It wasn't common knowledge, so they should not assume a dumb user like me would know that... My D40 manual didn't talk about it, so I had to make a phone call. Otherwise it would get 5-stars. Don't be afraid, this seems like a bargain if the capacity turns out to meet their claims.
