Excellent-works a charm

Bought with my D80 several years ago. Works like a champ. My main reason for getting it was not to use two Nikon batteries, but to be able to use AA batteries if my main battery died and I could not get it charged (I was going to Australia for 2 months and had some questions about ability to recharge the battery daily, or for use at a wedding). I have used this feature several times, and it works great. I primarily use it with one Nikon EL-3 (?) battery. Unlike some others, I have had zero problems. I do LOVE the vertical shutter release, and I love how the camera fits in my hand in both vertical and horizontal operation with the pack on. Two things to be aware of: One, the battery compartment door is removed to use the grip, and there is no stowage area built into the grip, so it's easy to lose the door (I now store mine with my SD cards). Second, it makes it harder to fit the camera on a flash rotator, because it is so tall with the power pack.

Take your chances

I have been using the MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the last six months and have had more problems then not. I shoot motorsports, family portraits, weddings, etc. When I first received the grip it was constantly lost connection. After taking it in and out of the camera several times and almost sending it back it started to work. So I kept it past the return policy date. Five months later it started to loose connection again. Now it looses connection every 6th or 7th photo. The fix according to numerous internet sites is to keep bending the middle prong in the camera battery compartement. Poor Quailty Assurance. Why would Nikon continue to make a product that has so many problems?

Not so tough.

I quite enjoyed this piece of electronic hardware until the little white plastic hook on the side of the battery hold broke off. It will now only accept one battery and what's the point in that?

Nice Grip

By

from Atlanta  -  Semi-Pro Photographer

The grip fits the Nikon D90 very well. I started using a speedlite and the camera was very unbalanced. Adding the battery grip did the trick. I have small hands so it's not the easiest to hold. If you're happy with the weight and size of the D90, don't buy the grip. Otherwise I'd recommend this grip.

Excellent, as expected

By

No problems whatsoever. Miles beyond the off-brand I tried first which had to be sent back to Adorama since it wouldn't work. Solid build, seamless interface with the camera, adds very functional vertical shutter release. Adds a little size and weight to my D90 also, which helps balance out larger lenses like the 17-55 2.8 (I have a D300 also and use a vertical grip on that body, too). Very good product.

Makes taking Portraits so much easier

By

from Stafford, VA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

This product is easy to install and even has a place to store the original battery door so that you have it when you want to remove the MB-80, Multi-Power Pack. The unit provides status on each battery, so you can monitor the charge level of each battery separately. One problem is that it is used only one bolted to attach the unit and it has a tendency to slightly rotate. Also the attachment bolt needs to be re-secured every once in a while. Other than that it works like a champ. I bought this "used" and I can not tell that it has ever been used.

Yep, it definitely holds two batteries

By

It remains attached to the D90 always, providing a comfortable heft to the camera in addition to the increased capacity. I am constantly on the go with the camera and having the increased power capacity is a boon.

I like it

By

from Amherst, MA  -  Photo Enthusiast

This product is useful if your camera feels small in your hands and isn't comfortable. Once you use it once you'll never want to use your camera without it. I think a battery grip is a product every photo enthusiast should at least try on their DSLR.

It just works

By

from New York, NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

My comment is about the shopping experience. I bought this used in store. It didn't have the battery tray in it. I had to go back and tell the sales person about it. He put one in and he took care of it.

Terrible electrical contact with D90

By

from Nillings, MT

Wished I would have researched this more before I bought it. A well known problem with the electrical contacts. Cannot believe Nikon would make such a shoddy piece of equipment.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
FRED S  It's a real nice addition to a D80 or D90. If you have large hands or use large heavy lens. It come off and on so easy in case you want to make you camera a little more compact. It adds more features to your camera like some of the high end camera have built in.
Shopper  To install the auxilary battery pack how do you remove the door cover on the camera?
JERRY P  The door snaps out of the hinge by turning it just a little, but be gentle. If you want to replace it later, it just snaps back in.
Shopper  Will this fit a D70s?
DAN R  No it doesn't. You'll have to get a third party one. Nikon never made one for the D70
