My Favorite Accessory
This is my favorite accessory. I carry a tripod and this cable to use when conditions allow - no people around; no wind - to enable long range telephoto shots and dim light shots. This shutter release cable is perfect for my D5100: easy connection, easy and smooth operation. But get acquainted with the movement of the switch. Note that it does not operate the video since that is a separate firing mechanism.

Clunky mount, but overall very useful
Use this remote to release shutter when photographing birds when telephoto lens is mounted on a tripod. Use with tripod mounted macro lens also. Works very well in both situations. I bought it for my D750 because I have a few cable releases for my D700 which won't work for D750. It works great and fires every time I used it. The fitting is small. It is a little tricky to put it on in dark.
IT DOES JUST WHAT I WANT IT TO DO
Use when camera is on my tripod. Cord plenty long. Bought an off-brand when this was out of stock and it never worked, so it is a delight to have this one which works all the time.
Recently got the MC-DC2 for my D7100 and D7000. I like to do low light and night time photography and figured this would be more flexible than the ML-L3. First thing I noticed that it would not focus on the half press...thought it might be my camera settings...so did a factory reset on D7100. Still did not work so ordered a second one...same problem on my D90, 7000 and 7100. Guess it's a camera problem. So you either pre-focus or use AFS priority 'focus'...and even then if you have VR activated...the VR doesn't have time to settle in. It works well for what it does...just does not work as advertised. Wonder why Nikon doesn't address this problem or at least mention it in the specs.
I purchased this Nikon Remote Release Cord for the Fourth of July fireworks display. This is by far better than using the little hand-held wireless remote because you don't have to be in front of the camera for it to work. The other plus is that if you have a long exposure, you can press the button a second time (anytime) to release the shutter. So if you have a 30 second exposure and you have captured your photo at 15 seconds, just press the button and you've got your shot! I have used it for my hummingbird shots too! I have nothing negative to say other than Nikon should make the cord available in various lengths. I would highly recommend this great Nikon product from Adorama!
I use this remote with my D7011 on a tripod to alleviate camera shake. I like the fact that uses a USB port instead on the older models that used the pin port on the face of my D300s. It could be improved by making the cord somewhat longer. It is about 3 feet now. I think 6 feet would make it more useful.
Used it for long exposures. Worked great.
Great for time lapse photos and macro photos.
Simple and effective. The cord length is good...not too short like some remote release cables I've seen.
Excellent purchase! Works great and solves the problem of no more shaky hands. I put the camera on the tripod and snap away when using out landscape shots, shooting water drops and birds.
