It's a versatile lens that takes up little space in my camera bag.
Nice and compact, but the lens cap is tiny. I'll have to tether or i can easily see that thing disappearing.
This lens is the standard zoom usually attached to most basic "bundles". It is good for general use. In good lighting conditions it provides sharp, well defined images with little artifacts and distortion. In low light or when pushed to its boundaries (e.g.: full aperture in low light) it is less exciting but still passable. I hoped they'd make a larger max aperture for this model - since many compact cameras now come with larger aperture zooms - so the technology is available and not too expensive probably. The lens lock mechanism is cool and makes it even more compact for storage, however if you are in a hurry and need to shoot fast - remembering to release it can be a pain. To sum up: it is exactly what you'd expect from an entry level decent zoom lense for better and worse.
This is the "standard zoom" for the micro 4/3rds system, the equivalent of the classic 28-85 range in 35mm format. It is compact (and even more compact when locked), well built for an entry level glass and performed reasonably well in a broad range of conditions: it excells in bright light with apertures stopped down to 5.6-8. Wide open it still delivers usable images even indoors and in low-light conditions, though the nitpicky among us will see certain softness creep in. My main quibbles are with regards to the max aperture range which could easily be better considering today's technology, and the lens lock mechanism which is fairly simple but gets in your way if you are in a hurry to start the camera and get that elusive shot. Otherwise a good standard zoom.
