This is a significant upgrade from the 14-42mm kit lens that came with my E-600. Noticeable performance improvements in all areas for a price that's not outrageous. Highly recommended!

I bought this lens and loved it. In fact, I loved the Olympus E-system. It was highly underrated. However, unfortunately, the E-system is not very viable at this time. If you own an E-System, this is a great lens at a great price.

I use it instead of the kit lens that came with my Ep-1. This lens is faster and sharper. Built to last..

I would highly recommend this lens. It has a quick focus and the 3-1/2 FPS meets my needs for photographing race cars and other action. As a long time user of Olympus products I have never been disappointed. The only negative is that the lens hood is very hard to attach and even harder to detach. I stop using the hood as I am afraid of breaking something trying to twist it on and off.

This is a great all-around lens. I upgraded from the old wide-zoom kit lenses (have used both the 14-45mm and 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6) and the sharpness, contrast, focus speed, focus accuracy, image quality, and build of this lens is just above and beyond. It's an extremely useful and flexible lens, and I'm finding I'm being more creative with it as it will excel and pretty much anything you throw at it or any composition you want, from wide-angle close-ups to portraits at the long end. Very versatile, and it feels so rugged and well built! Excellent lens, I highly recommend the upgrade if you can. For those thinking about the new 12-60 instead, I was too and I'm very satisfied that I saved a lot of money by getting this lens. The 12-60 obviously gets you a little wider and a little faster focus, but I imagine its build and image quality are around on par with this lens. So this one has become a great value.

I bought this lens as an upgrade to the E-500 14-42mm kit lens. I like the precise manual focus ring. And the wider lens opening.

with its strong construction and attractive low aperture of f2.8-3.5, this is a great 'stay-on' lens on my E510.[...]

This lens does all that is required of a 1/2 size system. In fact, the small sensor is both the strength and weakness of this lens. It enables a professionally built lens which is completely reliable with good contrast and no discernable pincushion at the wide end or barrel distortion at the long end. Chromatic abberation is negligible. This is a 5 out of 5 lense, heavy duty and optically pure in a relatively small package. The reason Olympus can produce such a wonder is that they only need a small area of sensor to focus the light coming through the lens upon. The 1/2 size sensor is both the strong suit and the achilles heel of the Olympus system. I use this lens on an E-500, and find that the noise above ISO 200 is unacceptable, and the small viewfinder makes this system hard to manual focus in low contrast light when the auto-focus struggles. While other makers like Nikon were using only slightly larger sensors, I considered the trade off acceptable. However, with the bigger brands going to full size sensors, I cant see how a 1/2 size sensor is going to compete for low light noise and print quality. These lenses are great for long focal lengths in compact lenses and fast to boot with little abberation. The real question is, can you live with a 1/2 size sensor?

Having read so many good things about the kit 14-42 lens with the e-510 I was not quite sure about the benifit of the extra cost in going to the 14-54mm lens. My son plays basket ball indoors and I can normally get quite close so was happy with the 14-54 lens only having a max zoom of 54mm and was manly chasing the extra f2.8-3.5 speed. Well I can certanly say all is Good :-). As good as the kit lens is this is a significant step up in build and performance. Low light ability is much better with quicker focusing and a brighter view finder due to the f2.8. Picture quality and sharpness is great and with an improvement over the kit lens. The extra reach to the 108mm 35 equiv means this lens will stay on my camera 90% of time. Another bonus I didnt expect is the ability to focus up so close to the front of the lens. Although not a macro lens it is great for fine details and close shots 2" from the face of the lens. I'm more than happy with this lens and feel it was worth every cent esspecially when compared to other brands when you condsider the speed, performance and build quality.

Awesome lens. I keep it on the camera most of the time. Much better than the kit lens (14-45) I absolutely love it.

I got this lens as an upgrade to the kit lens that came with the E-500. The best move that I've made. It's heavier than the 14-45, which in my opinion makes its steadier and easier to use. It's almost bomb proof, and weather proofed, which is a big plus for me. Colours are spot on, it's quick to focus and quiet. It has a whopping 67mm thread, which can only make the light gathering better, and it's faster. But for me it's versatility is it's selling point. I travel a lot, I like travel photography, but I do not and cannot take heaps and heaps of gear with me. This lens is on and it stays on mostly for the duration of my trips. It's wide angle is great for landscapes, cityscapes general shots. The long end works well as a short tele for portraits and for those shots where you just can't get close enough. I can' get enough of this lens....

I bought the kit with the two lens's. My first upgrade was the 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5.(great lens also)I purchased the 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5, just before going to a family reunion knowing it would get a good workout, right away. To say the least, I was blown away by this lens as compared to the "kit" lens. Crisp, clear, fast, perfect focus. Just a great lens!

A year ago I purchased the E500 with 2 lens kit. The lenses worked ok but did not give me the quality that I wanted. This lens is so much better than the one that comes in the kit! Faster auto focus, sharper manual focus and better color range. This is listed as an all weather lens and I have taken over 1,000 pictures in below zero weather without any issues.

This lens has exceeded all expectations. The one difficulty is the manual focus. I prefer a split prism type focus which this lens does not have.

Buy it is a great decission. It is (even)brighter and faster than 14-45 and, although it is not as lightweight, the handling is better.
