Decent extreme zoom lens

This is the lens I keep on my camera most of the time. I like the range of zoom, and it is a convenient general purpose zoom lens. My biggest complaint would be that at high zoom, the focus gets very soft around the edges of the image. It almost looks like you have a weak filter on it to soften the edges. The center of the image still focuses clearly, and there have been many shots I couldn't have gotten without the 360mm (35mm equivalent) focal length. It also is a little slow to focus som...

It also is a little slow to focus sometimes, but it doesn't seem much worse than one would expect from a zoom with this much range and being no brighter than it is (f3.5-6.3) Also, I should note that it quickly advances through it's aperture. The f3.5 is only good at the VERY low end of the zoom range. It seems to lose f stops much quicker through the zoom range than the lens mentioned below, though I haven't closely tested this. I would recommend this as a good 1st or 2nd lens, not for a high end lens, though. If you don't need the added zoom, though, and if you generally stick to autofocus (due to the Olympus' proper af+m ability without using a switch on the lens for manual focus), you might want to look into the Sigma 18-125mm f3.5-5.6 lens.

Olympus Zuiko 18mm - 180mm Review

Fine detail. Autofocus is a bit slow when used on the E-300.

Olympus 18-180 mm zoom lens

By

I traded my 14-42 mm and 40-150 mm lenses for this lens. I plan to use it for an all round travel lens. First thing to note is that you will need a 4/3 adapter to use this lens on a on a micro 4/3 camera such as my E-PL1. The lens is heavier than both the lenses it replaces however is a better quality than its micro 4/3 counterparts.

Fantastic Lens at at great price...

By

I use this lens as my general travel lens on a OM-D E-M5. The 18-180mm (36-360 equiv) does a great job for sports and super-tele photo work and is still capable of moderate travel landscape work. The only drawback of the lens is that it's a bit chucky with a large outside diameter. It's not a huge drawback on an E 4/3 series, but it makes the M5 pretty nose heavy having to use the 4/3 to micro 4/3 adapter. I bought this lens as a demo, but it appeared new with no blemishes. This is a Japanese lens vs most of the micros Chinese origin.

Love this lens

Took this as the single lens for a Saturday excursion. Got the close up of wild flowers and the mesa that was two miles distant. The wide range of focal length was great for 'Travel Mode' for vacation record pictures.

Nice lens with a large zoom range

By

from Parkersburg, WV  -  Photo Enthusiast

This made in Japan lens seems sturdy and well built. Not great in low light but I use it indoors with the FL50R flash and that makes up for it. It will be the perfect lens for going to the zoo or a nice hike in the woods as the need to change lenses will be eliminated or minimized. I'll couple this with my Olympus 9-18mm lens for scenic shooting of landscapes. This is the perfect walk-around lens on a nice clear day.
