This is a Great Lens.

When I bought this lens, I really did not think that I really needed it. I was wrong. I use this lens a lot. It is small, compact, lightweight and is in my bag always. If i what low depth of field, this is a great lens for this. The other usage it is getting is video. It is a great interview lens because of the low depth of field. The background blur is wonderful. I use it on my GH2 and AF100. Thank you Olympus.

I'm VERY happy with this lens

By

from Tyler, TX  -  Photo Enthusiast

I use two systems, a Nikon D800 with a good selection of lenses and my Oly EM-1, also with a nice selection of lenses and this 45mm 1.8, in terms of intended use, compares to my Nikkor 85mm 1.4. This M Zuiko 45mm is a very nice lens, very sharp with good bokeh and I have had some fantastic results using it for portraits as well as other shots where I wanted a shallow DOF. The camera and lens is WAY smaller and lighter than my D800 & 85mm so the Oly has become my daily carry-camera. For its price, compact size, quality and speed, I think this lens is excellent.

Great Lens!

This lens is crazy sharp! The only downside is the plastic body, but it helps keep the lens light I guess.

One great lens

By

from Baldwin, MD  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

This is great little lens. It is very sharp, very light and a good value. Focus is quick and manual focusing is is a snap too. I rate this lens higher than I rate Panasonic's 20mm f1.7 lens, and that is high praise indeed. If you shoot micro four thirds and do not have this lens, get it. I am happier with this lens than any others I have had. My only negate it they are small ones is that it does not come with a lens pouch or lens hood

It rarely gets sharper

By

from New Mexico  -  Professional

It's worth 4.5 stars. All I can say is sharp. The resolving power on an E-M5 is shocking, even at pixel peeping. 5 for sharpness. Focus is fast, should say very fast. Very good in low light, not near darkness. This lens is good for more than portraits, I like the focal length on an M43 body. Better at isolating some subjects. My gripe with most Olympus Lenses is minimum focus distance. Personally, just a little more close focus would be nice. Bought this with the hood. Olympus: Why a world class lens without a hood? Let me say it again, this is good for well lit indoors if you can use a narrower feild of view. This should be on every M43 body at some time, IMHO. Build is solid, not cheap.

Small, sharp, shallow depth of field

By

from San Diego, CA  -  Getting Started

I am very happy with my purchase of this lens. It is compact and produce sharp results. I've joked in regards to really good looking pictures that "it's not the photographer, it's the camera" and with this lens it's really the first time I was happy about the pictures I've taken. This lens is the initial reason why I've taken up an interest in photography.

A Cool Lens To Have

By

from UK  -  Casual Photographer

The Olympus 45mm 1.8 lens is amazing, this is my first lens so i don't really have much to compare it to. The depth of the focus is pretty amazing. This lens is a perfect portrait lens and is very good at taken photos at anything, because the lens does all the work for you. The auto focus is pretty darn fast and the colors are great too. For people who are not in to portraiture the Olympus 45mm is still an outstanding lens to have. I found a web page that goes in to more detail on the lens here http://www.squidoo.com/olympus-45mm-1-8-review i hope this helps anyone who is looking to invest in the lens.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
TERRIL F  It is probably the best portrait lens available for m4/3 cameras. It is also reasonably priced compared to other lenses in its class.
Shopper  Can I use with a Cannon 5d mark III ?
PETER A  No, this lens only fits a Micro Four Thirds mount. There is no adapter possible due to the shorter flange distance.
Shopper  Is this significantly better for portraits that the Panasonic 45mm macro? Does one stop make a difference?
DALE G  I had the same question and concern. I really researched both the Panasonic and Olympus 45 mm lenses carefully. After much thought, I came to the conclusion that the one stop does make a difference and bought the Olympus lens. I have not regretted my decision. It takes great photos and because it is small and compact, it is always in my bag! You will not be disappointed!!
