Tough, small, effective.

Tough little camera: extremely good automatic lighting adjustment for beginners, and more than enough flexibility in manual mode for experts looking for a smaller platform. I shove this thing in a hip pack and take it up mountains, and it takes better photographs than cameras twice its size. Really recommend it!

Great for beginners

This is the first camera I've ever owned, so I can't compare it to other cameras, but I can say it is very easy to use out of the box. I spent only a week or two shooting in iAuto mode, before switching to manual mode. The electronic viewfinder is great, especially if you set it to reflect in real time the various camera settings you've selected. The image stabilization is great, too, and helps with handheld shots. I appreciate how customizable the camera's interface is: with a little reading in the .pdf manual, you can assign any function you use regularly to one of the function buttons, or even assign a function to the record button, if you're not interested in video. The wireless connection to your smart phone works very well, too, and allows easy sharing of photos to social media.

Great camera in a small package

What can I say, I am a real fan of this little camera. Its small enough to carry where ever you go and the image quality is amazing for such a small package. Pros: - Great stabilization, I can easily hand hold shots down to 1/10th sec - Great ISO performance at 3200 - Silent shutter - Customization of function buttons and dials - Nice EVF - WiFi Cons: - Short EVF blackout which makes it a tad difficult to track movement (sports, dance, etc...)

Great camera, 5-axis stability wonderful, only camera to buy if you have a tremor!

In addition to my OMD, I own a Canon 70D and have owned almost all of the other brands of DSLRs and micro 4/3 cameras. With my increasing age a minor tremor has increased and has required me to maintain shutter speeds of 1/500 and greater. Using this camera with it's 5-axis stabilization, I have successfully taken photos at 1/100 and lower. OLYMPUS HAS ALLOWED ME TO FOLLOW MY PASSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AGAIN!!!!. First impressions of the camera aside from the stability is I LOVE IT. As an experienced photographer (top ten in the world nature 2015 smithsonian contest) , I find the many options ideal, I can set the camera up exactly as I like it and using MYSET switch from advanced settings to party mode quickly. My only gripe is the lack of a software switch to lock the focal point. Olympus please add and it will be the perfect camera. As a postscript, my new OMD outclasses my Canon with sharper photos and higher usable ISO.

Great little camera

This little camera produces really amazing images. IBIS works perfectly for very low light scenes. Controls makes super easy to use manual operation.

Great Starter Camera

I am new to photography and I am so glad that I picked up this camera. After looking at a number of reviews I got this and I could not be happier! I love the size and the simplicity, but it also seems to be easy to learn on as I improve my skills.

Amazing Camera!

I absolutely love this camera. It's so small and fits extremely well in your hand. The stabilization is also amazing, and I can easily take a clear photo at at 1/6 second shutter speed. Also, the built in features are very nice and can add a very professional looking effect to your photos. Finally, the camera itself looks amazing, with a vintage feel and modern capabilities.

Small, light weight, but powerful

I purchased this camera a little while ago to replace my old Nikon D80. I would have to say that I am so happy with the purchase, and I am even happier in choosing this camera in particular, it is so compact but yet so full of incredible features. I would definitely recommend this camera.

Light-weight, fun to use, great images

I have had the E-M10 Mark II for about a month and so far I'm really enjoying it. I've gotten some great images with the various micro four third prime lenses I have. I love that it has a built in flash for those times when you need just a little fill flash. So many options to customize - I'm still learning all of them. It’s small, easy to carry and hold, and fun to use. Focus and response times seems very fast as well. I'm enjoying having this as a light-weight travel camera. Take this and a few primes and you have a full kit but still not a lot of bulk.

Amazing Camera

Been using the camera for a few months now. Love this mid range camera! Great to take any type of photos for a good intermediate photographers. You get to learn basics of an advanced camera with a nice mid range camera. Did some sweet 16 and some sport photography with it soon and it handles those greatly. I do a lot of nature photography and able to get nice photos with it. Over all an amazing camera, very happy with the camera and very happy to stick with Olympus as a company.

Great quality!

My wife had a Mark I camera and loves it, so I sold off my Sony bridge camera and bought the E-M10 Mark II last month, and it's fantastic. Great pic quality. Still getting used to the menu, which I wish was easier, but it'll be OK. Love this camera!

Great camera for the money

I've enjoyed the adjustability of the camera. Very customizable. If weather proofing isn't important to you this camera will get you the same image quality as the more expensive EM5. Highly recommended.

Fun Camera

I purchased the E-M10 Mark ii to replace my aging clunky DSLR. I love the portability of this camera and seeing the filters available in ART mode in real time is quite neat. Olympus has packed a lot of features into such a small body, it makes it a lot fun to use. The controls are laid out nicely and are easy to use. You can't go wrong purchasing this camera.

Wonderful!

I am new to photography and this is my first interchangable lens camera and I absolutely love it! I love the fact that the IS is built into the camera body, and that the lenses are cheaper compared to other brands. I also love the dials and function buttons on this. I don't have to scroll through the menu every time I want to change something and I can tailor it to me. I recommended this camera to my friends (and they went out and bought a Sony or a Nikon) and when we go out shooting, they always ask if they can use mine and ask why I didn't force them to buy this one. I love this camera and my two friends prefer mine over theirs.

Great Travel Camera

The camera is excellent! I would have given the camera a better star rating but I find that the AF is lacking in low light. Even after manually selecting the target it still struggles to take the photo. That aside the camera is great for its intended purpose. It is my first mirrorless camera and its produced clear sharp images every time without question. The size is perfect for travel.

I just bought this camera and have had a blast over the past couple of days learning about all the features. It's my first mirrorless and first Olympus camera and I have no regrets at all. I look forward to learning about all the different features.

What a trip

While my experience with Olympus goes way back to the film days with a Pen F 1/2 frame, I got away from photography for many years because of other pursuits and lack of time. A good friend of mine who knew my abilities in this hobby, advised that I should look into the new Olympus Micro 4/3 digital cameras.., so I did and my first one was an EPL5. I liked it, but being more familiar with pro style SLRs, of past years, I felt I needed something more so I traded the EPL5 to my friend for an EP3, which was too bulky for her. I still wanted more and missed having things like a view finder. Onward and upward to these new thingies called OMD series. Pulled the trigger on an EM10. Wow! didn't see that one coming. What a brilliant idea.., it had everything. Me being a newbie to digital I relied on the auto function a lot. Then I began to get into it and found this thing did a lot more, but the menu had terms I wasn't familiar with and far more choices to get my head around. So the learning curve begins. if it were any deeper It would take the photos for you, but thankfully it left something for us hands on guys to do. I still wasn't thrilled with the EVF, but was glad it had one. I was, however, impressed with the quality of my results. The three axis stabilization was amazing and saved my butt too many times. Then out comes the EM10 MkII. First I was angry at Olympus for making my EM10 obsolete so soon after purchase. Finally I couldn't take it any longer so traded in my EM10 for the EM10 MKII body. If I thought the EM10 was amazing this MKII was etherial. Resolution on the EVF was increased to look almost like the live SLR viewers I'm used to. 5 axis stabilization now included just like its big brothers. On/Off switch was in a much more ergonomically desirable position and the camera performed like a champ. It is my "go-with-me" all the time camera shooting mostly with a 14-42mm EZ lens with a couple of others in the bag. Another friend offered me an EM5 MKII and I couldn't resist so took it off his hands. In this case the body was too puny for his ham like hands. While it is a fine camera with a many refined features and seemingly even faster auto-focus, not to mention being weather proof.., I still grab the EM10 MKII first. I'm just saying'.

Overall a Great Camera

This is my first M43 camera and I have to say it's doing pretty well. Compatibility is as real big thing for me. The amount of adapters available for so cheap is great. I can use M43 lenses already and on top of that I can use old manual film lenses as well. The shutter speed is perfect for action shots in open light, however lowlight performance is a weak point as ISO is limited in terms of noise performance. Shooting wide open is a dangerous game with autofocus, especially for sports photography. Features such as focus peaking, live comp, and live view have been great for night time photography and photography in lowlight situations when it's hard to see what is in focus. The body is quite light, however the camera is quite short, so adding a flash and heavier lens without the grip extension kills your pinky finger. I think the EM10 II could do with a battery grip as well. The lack of weatherproofing is offsetting to me, as it limits exposure photography to warmer weather as I do not want to risk breaking my camera in the dead of winter. I really like the setup of the dials on the right side of the camera. Aperture in the front, shutter speed in the back, and I added focus peaking to the function button next to the dials. The IBIS is great for still photography, but for video it can get quite annoying at times. It is too predictive and causes the frame to overshoot the subject sometimes making the video a lot less than ideal. Overall, this is a great camera for all around photography.

Possibly the perfect travel photography camera.

This is a magnificent, state of the art camera. It has all the functionality I need as a travel photographer who once packed medium format film gear to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It's tiny in my 3x size hands so I hold it comfortably by the lens. Even with three lenses it doesn't take up much room in carry-on luggage. The metering system is impressive. I bracket exposures for safety when shooting once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities, yet find that I use the uncompensated exposure most of the time. The image stabilization is awesome for interior low light shots in historic buildings - I have sharp hand held images at 1/4, 1/8, even 0.4 seconds (https://www.behance.net/gallery/43407755/Travel-16-Russia). BTW, the Pro lenses for this body appear to me sharper than my Canon L lenses. For reference my sports camera (sorry Olympus, mirrorless autofocus and EVFs can't do sports yet) is a Canon 1D X Mark II. After post processing, no one could tell the difference between images made with these two cameras. Which is likely why my stock photo agencies accept so many of my submissions.

Awesome Photography Tool

Compact form and a complete photographic tool with an unreal amount of customization. I purchased the E PL - 5 some years ago and recently purchased the EM10 Mark II as an upgrade. I shoot landscape and Cultural still life around my province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This camera is above expectation much like the E PL - 5 was a few years back. Well thought out and controls and nobs are well placed. Haven't been this excited about a camera since my old Pentax K100D.

So Lightweight and small !

I recently bought this product, and I love it so far ! It was a little difficult for me to adapt myself to the camera, since I've always used DSLR(Nikon) and the system works differently. For example, the zooming on the lens is the other side, deleting pictures is slower in the Olympus camera, etc.. But overall I like it. The pictures are high quality pictures, it has many effects and filters, fish-eye effect, panorama, vintage and much more. What I like the most about the product is how lightweight and small it is! I highly recommend it if you move frequently and travel, because it is really useful for that.

Expectations exceeded. Not only got the controls I wanted, but with very few compromises given the size of the camera and sensor.

+ It works incredibly well in my hands. Customization allows me to have my preferred controls at my finger tips, literally. Even though I have large hands it fits well and I can shot fast. The automatic functions (focus, white balance, exposure) are quite accurate, even though I do override them from time to time. Finally, low light shooting works much better than I expected. When I kick up to 1600 or 3200 ISO, the noise seems to be primarily luminance and it cleans up easily in PS.

Excellent camera to grow into.

It's easy to use if you're a beginner, but has so many advanced features to discover as you advance in photography. The "image quality to size ratio" is great. The tilting screen and wifi are useful for exploring different ways to take photos. As you discover the wealth of customization, you'll be able to set it up exactly the way you like to shoot. Features like 'keystone', various types bracketing and in-camera HDR (to name a few), make this a true swiss-army knife of a camera. If you have manual-focus lenses and the right adapter, you'll appreciate the in-camera stabilization, electronic viewfinder and focus peaking. My favourite feature has to be the option for silent (full electronic) shutter. If you're coming from a DSLR background, conserving battery-life is something to get used to (I wish there was the option to map a button to turn on "sleep mode"). This is my favorite camera, and my 25mm 1.8 is usually mounted on it.

Impressive camera!

After years of lugging around DSLR's with heavy lenses and flashes, I've decided to lighten my load. This little camera is amazing, I've been quite impressed with it. The range of features should satisfy most photographers. It is very customizable, and makes commonly used adjustments very quick and convenient (i.e. Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focus and drive modes). The ability to control flashes remotely is a big plus, as well as being able to control the camera from your phone. The image quality is fantastic, color reproduction is great, and noise is well controlled through the higher ISO values. I've not thoroughly tested ISO's of 6400 and above yet, but at 3200 noise is fairly low. Pictures are very usable at this level. About the only thing I could suggest, is a slight redesign of the directional button on the rear of the camera. I have fairly small hands, but I constantly find myself accidentally hitting the directional pad and changing my focus point, while attempting to hit the OK button in the center of the pad. It's not a major issue, but large handed shooters beware. Olympus did a fine job of making the rest of the controls very easy to use. This camera has exceeded my expectations, it's a fine replacement for my DSLR.

A Great Camera

Not the easiest camera to use but motivates you to dig deeper into settings and try to understand how all of this works. As a result plenty of option in this mid class camera. If you don't want to spend more than 1200 bucks, go with this - it uses same sensor as all top level OM-D. Great quality... feels very strong. The only thing that I don't understand - plastic battery lock ( haven't heard that somebody broke it - but still, doesn't feel very strong). If it is first 4/3 camera - KIT is an excellent choice.

Tough, small, effective.

By Amer

Tough little camera: extremely good automatic lighting adjustment for beginners, and more than enough flexibility in manual mode for experts looking for a smaller platform. I shove this thing in a hip pack and take it up mountains, and it takes better photographs than cameras twice its size. Really recommend it!

Great for beginners

By Nate

This is the first camera I've ever owned, so I can't compare it to other cameras, but I can say it is very easy to use out of the box. I spent only a week or two shooting in iAuto mode, before switching to manual mode. The electronic viewfinder is great, especially if you set it to reflect in real time the various camera settings you've selected. The image stabilization is great, too, and helps with handheld shots. I appreciate how customizable the camera's interface is: with a little reading...

The Olympus E-M10 Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera with M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 IIR Lens (Black) boasts a powerful TruePic VII image processor, a large, interactive electronic viewfinder, built-in flash and Wi-Fi, a warp-speed AF system that allows sequential shooting at 8fps (yes, eight) and much more.

The E-M10 ups the ante by pairing a 16MP Live MOS sensor with the most powerful TruePic VII image processor for extraordinary resolution and accurate color rendition. Add 3-axis in-body image stabilization that compensates for horizontal and vertical angular shifts (yaw/pitch) as well as camera shake along the optical axis (roll) and you have a camera that captures incredibly sharp images and video, yet is compact enough to bring just about anywhere. A number of versatile external flashes (with wireless remote control capabilities) also play well with the E-M10 for situations that require additional lighting.

The E-M10's slim, elegant body is made of metal, tricked with meticulously engineered metal parts. (The 2x2 dial controls are particularly sweet). The E-M10 just feels right, substantial yet perfectly balanced. It's only fitting that a beautiful camera like this takes such beautiful photos.

Shooting at eye level is comfortably familiar. And when you get a live view of exposure, white balance and other useful information and the ability to control highlights, shadows, colors and more - as you do with the E-M10's electronic viewfinder - you're in position to take some of the best photos of your life. You can also apply various framing grids and a leveling guide for composing better photos and even monitor video recording.

The E-M10 is a marvel of thoughtful design and useful functionality. Built-in Wi-Fi for easy image sharing and wireless control, built-in flash for filling in the shadows and numerous creative tools, tiltable LCD monitor with touch screen.

You might want to wear your running shoes when using the E-M10. High-speed sequential shooting - at a best-in-class 8fps - and super high-speed FAST AF technology ensure that you won't miss the shot no matter how quickly your subject is moving. In fact, the autofocus tracking function is better than ever thanks to enhancements to the group target Continuous AF function. The E-M10 also provides an 81-point AF grid that covers the entire image frame, giving you more focus options than basic DSLRs.

Focus peaking in manual focus mode. Color Creator. HDR and HDR bracketing. Twelve Art Filters and nine Art Effects. Photo Story (including a new Zoom In/Out theme). Photo and Movie Capture (high-quality stills while shooting a movie - at an insane 5fps in P/A/S/M mode). Live Composite Mode for capturing starscapes intuitively. The E-M10 offers you an incredible array of easy-to-use creative tools that can transform your photos from excellent to spectacular.

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 IIR Lens utilizes Olympus' MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) focusing technology for fast and silent autofocus performance. Continuous focusing is extremely smooth during HD video capture, eliminating jarring focus transitions completely. A retractable two-stage barrel design ensures the smallest travel size in your bag.
