Fun camera. Easy to use on many levels from full auto to manual control. Accurate metering and focus. Accurate color. Sharp, high-quality images.

Oh I do so love this camera. I love it so much I'm sorry I bought the big Canon first. I love it to pieces. It is so easy to use, so quick to focus. It finds faces ... even on my dolls! Auto focus is very fast, wonderfully accurate. And it's in a compact package that doesn't feel like a boulder in disguise. I don't believe I have ever instantly loved a camera like I do this one. Just one more lens and it will be everything I ever wanted in an interchangeable lens camera. I DID buy the add on electronic viewfinder. I like having a viewfinder and it felt weird NOT having one. This is the camera I should have bought in the first place and I am heartily sorry I didn't!

Originally bought this camera as a toy to use while my Nikon was mounted on a tripod. I often set up my camera for wildlife and wait with remote in hand. The PEN is so light, convenient, I often have found myself reaching for it rather than my Nikon because ounce for ounce it takes nice photos.

Refurbished? really ? looks like new !!!!! but with an unbeatable price. Bought it as an alternative to my DSLR, also bought a mount adapter so I can use the nikon glass I own. It is an awesome combination with the macro lenses. Not so much in other uses as it takes ME ages to manual focus. With the kit lens it can be as easy to use as a point and shoot, with the possibility to do manual everything and exchange lenses, a great medium size camera, much more discrete than my DSLR.

Overall i think this a great camera for it's price and probably all that most casual photographers would need. I see a lot of people spending big money on DSLR camera's even though they never take it out of auto mode or buy a second lens. Only down sides to me are that the lens's focus is slow and that you are very limited if you do want to buy additional lenses. Overall picture quality is great. iAuto mode allows you to easily modify your settings. Small size makes the camera easy to carry around.

The lens I received had a flaw but Olympus repaired is promptly. I added a 40-150 lens which I love for candid people pictures. Very handy camera for collecting memories at family occasions.

Absolute must have for any photography
By JAMES S.
The more things I try with this camera the better it gets. It is a fun and a very good deal.
The Olympus PEN E-PL1 Digital Camera is a dream come true for many photographers with 12 megapixels and technology normally found in much larger cameras and High Definition (HD) camcorders. It features a PEN large-size image sensor that is 8 times larger than the ones in average point & shoot cameras. This sensor, combined with the TruePic V Image Processor, delivers excellent dynamic range, accurate color and reduced noise, all the way up to ISO 3200. With state-of-the art noise reduction technology and 3 in-body image stabilization modes, users will realize clear images with all compatible lenses under most lighting conditions.
The E-PL1's iAuto mode automatically identifies the scene you're shooting (portrait, landscape, night portrait, macro, or sport) and adjusts the settings to optimize results. While in iAuto you can engage Live Guide control which lets you compose your picture, manipulate the image with various in-camera effects like softening backgrounds, adjusting colors and brightness before taking the photo. Adding to the dream, recording HD movies (720p) with the E-PL1 is simple thanks to an easy-to-reach record button on the back of the camera body. You can toggle back and forth between capturing stills and video which opens endless shooting possibilities, for example you can shoot a portrait of a child and switch to video to capture the moment when he or she is playing with the dog that interrupted your shooting session
.This camera has 19 automatic scene-select modes which adjust camera settings according to the subject you are photographing plus 6 in-camera Art Filters (Pop Art, Soft Focus, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama and the new Gentle Sepia filter). These tools make image capture easy and can expand your creativity.
This E-PL1 comes with an M.Zuiko Digital ED Micro Four Thirds mount 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 3x zoom lens which is extremely compact (2.44 diameter x 1.71" length). It at has both ED and Aspherical lens elements which deliver very high imaging performance. Despite its small size it delivers amazing image brightness and contrast. It covers wide angle to moderate telephoto distances and is suitable for portraits, everyday shooting and traveling.
