This product was really made for the E-1. The supplemental power in the grip is provided by the C batteries that store in it. They improve the recycle times of my FL 50 by 70%. And the grip handle is firm and comfortable. That is the plus side of the product. The product comes with a shutter button built into the grip but it only works with the E-1. This makes access to the shutter release on the body of the Evolt 500 awkward to get at. This is a very pricey way to get your flash off of the top of your camera. It is less expensive than a battery pack when it comes to increasing flash recycle times but ergonomics suffer when used with the Evolt 500. One other annoying factor. When you see pictures of this product on the internet the grip will be shown with a nice leather hand strap. It is a $35 option, not part of the rig. I am sure this is a wonderful solution to improving recycle times many improving the light cast by your flash for the E-1. But knowing what I know now I either would have spent more and purchased the battery pack and the less expensive flash grip from Olympus or just less expensive grip.
