About Panasonic

The Panasonic DMC-GH1 Digital Camera merges the very best of digital SLR technologies with advanced, next-generation HD Video recording. Utilizing the Micro Four Thirds System, the camera design offers a 50% shorter flange spacing (mount-to-sensor distance) and a 6mm reduction in the size of the outer lens mount.

This innovative, mirror-less design dramatically reduces the size and weight of the camera body and allows for the development of more compact optics. The camera includes a LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm lens with optical image stabilization. This amazing focal range coupled with silent focus and electronic aperture adjustments are perfectly suited for all photo and video applications.

The camera's 12.1 Megapixel Live MOS sensor and dual Venus Engine HD image processors render images with exceptional clarity and minimal noise--even when captured at high ISO. Panasonic's exclusive iA (Intelligent Auto) mode features powerful Face Recognition that "remembers" faces registered in the camera giving priority focus and exposure to capture to your favorite subjects. Now it's easier than ever to make friends and family members stand out in a crowd!

High Definition Video is available on many of the latest DSLRs, but the GH1 is distinguished as the first to allow full-time, manual adjustment of shutter speeds and aperture values. With manual exposure control, you can bring your HD vision to life without compromise! In addition to control of depth-of field and exposure times, the GH1 even records audio in rich Dolby Digital Stereo sound!

Panasonic Features

  • Full-HD Movie Recording in AVCHD: With the GH1, shooting incredible photos is only part of the fun. You can also shoot beautiful, richly detailed movies in full-HD (1920 x 1080) at 24 fps, or smooth HD (1280 x 720) movies at 60 fps in AVCHD (MPEG-4/H.264) with a continuous auto focus function.
  • High-Performance Kit Lens: The GH1 kit is proudly equipped with the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. lens. This compact lens boasts a focal length of 28-280mm [35mm camera equivalent] and supports a continuous auto focus function that works for both photos and movies.
  • The GH1's advanced kit lens also incorporates MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) that helps eliminate blurring from hand-shake.
  • Enjoy the Freedom of Manual Settings in Creative Movie Mode: The GH1 gives you more creative freedom. It lets you adjust the shutter speed and aperture any way you like when shooting movies. This gives you a wider range of expressive possibilities to explore in your movie making.
  • An Audio Performance that Adds to Your HD Movies: Just set the GH1 to iA mode, aim and shoot. The iA does all the rest. It automatically determines the most suitable Scene mode and helps correct blurring, focus and brightness problems for bright, sharply focused HD movies.
  • The Advanced iA Mode Uses Face Recognition to Remember Individual Faces: The GH1 features an enhanced version of LUMIX's clever iA mode that includes Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" registered faces.
  • Full-time Live View and Live View Finder: On the GH1, both the LCD and the Live View Finder boast true Full-time Live View capability. Live View lets you see - before you shoot - how changing the shutter speed or aperture will affect the shot.
  • Newly Developed 12.1-Megapixel Live MOS Sensor: The GH1's 4/3-type Live MOS sensor with 12.1 megapixels gives you the best of both worlds: the superior image quality and the lower power consumption. It also adds a high-speed readout for recording HD movies.
  • You can record images with a 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratio. In each, you get the same angle of view and same outstanding image quality.
  • The High-Speed, High-Performance Venus Engine HD: The Venus Engine HD incorporates two CPUs. This not only boosts image processing speed, it also helps achieve an exceptional noise-reduction performance. The Venus Engine HD features HDMI output.
  • Easily View Photos and Movies on an HDTV: Just connect the GH1 to an HDTV and you're ready to view your photos and movies in beautiful high-definition. If your TV is HDMI compatible, a single HDMI mini cable (optional) is all you need.

I have used it for fashion shows ISO 400 very EXCELLENT DETAIL IN IMAGES with metz 54mz4i in the auto mode. Manual settings on the camera. Can shoot continuously 3 frames with flash. Very good battery life. Excellent LCD BRIGHT SCREEN. Color's are balanced & vivid. In my opinion Leica lenses are the best so you get excellent images. Important part is one don't need to tweek color , brightness or contrast if the camera is set right. shoot ready to deliver the images or upload. very acurate metering. For best results ISO 100 FOR PORTRAITS 400 FOR FASHION SHOWS LANDSCAPE 800 & HIGHER

If you're a Mac User and planning on using this camera for its video capabilities make sure you have some decent editing software like Final Cut Pro so that you can convert the AVCHD files into something usable like mov files as it is not an automatic or easy thing to do without said additional software.
