It's almost small enough to fit in pants pocket, definitely small enough for a coat pocket. Surprisingly good viewfinder and general ergonomics. The interplay of touch screen and buttons takes some time to learn, but it's an excellent walkabout camera. I use it when Canon EOS or Sony Alpha cameras are too bulky. The only down side is 1/50s flash synch, but it's an available light camera for me, so that doesn't come into play.

Most of all, I can use my Panasonic and Olympus lenses on the GM5. It is very small but the photos a great. This is a good camera to take to a restaurant or bar. It could work for concerts if they don't look too close because some concerts prohibit cameras with interchangeable lenses.

I love the GM 5 with the 12-32. It is truly a grab and go camera and paired with my 35-100 f/4-5.6, 20 1.7 and my 8mm Fisheye is gets the job done and is a great kit. The image quality is fantastic as well.

Has all the features of full sized DSLRs in a tiny format with a great little viewfinder. I bought it for the Micro 4/3 sensor, RAW images, and viewfinder. It meets those expectations. Also the wireless link was a pleasant surprise. Easy to install and operate. I find the Panasonic menu system easier to operate than the Sony system.

I have lumix GX8 as my main camera and use the GM5 as my backup or when I want to travel very light. I did have a GM1 which I did also like. The GM5 has addressed any of the issues that I had with the GM1 and is just the perfect little camera to take street shooting or to use indoors with a fast lens. I think it is going to be a classic. It is more than worth the money. It also is very much under the radar and is allowed in places where larger cameras are frowned upon.

This is a good little camera... If it matches your needs, which include miniscule size and interchangeable lenses. I've got it in a Lowepro Dashpoint 20 case, it works really well. Very easy to use. You can make it as simple or complex as you want it to be, get into the settings and mess with the base way it functions, and it won't take bad pictures unless you basically tell it to. The bottom line is, this is a good camera. Stellar pictures; professional. That doesn't mean there are no flaws. Criticism commences. The controls are tiny, of course. Which sucks a bit, but they're still pretty easy to use. The click-wheel to adjust settings is stiff and difficult, but impossible to change accidentally. It needs a grip stuck on it or it's a little difficult to hold. The EVF is not great, you're usually better off using the rear screen. These may seem like reasons to get the GM1, but don't. The click-wheel is better than the one on the GM1. The EVF is better than none. If you wanted these things easy, you should get a bigger camera. Like, the GX-85 of the Oly Pen E-PL7. At ($) it's a really good deal - just the lens on it is still ($) new, and you can put that on a different camera if you feel like it. I wouldn't. It's good glass, but the lens is for what the GM5 is for - taking pictures anywhere without getting too picky about certain things. You can manual focus it through the software, but don't. Trust the AF - if you want to manual focus something, get the 20mm f/1.7 Pana pancake prime. It's good glass too, just as pocketable, much more tweakable. Or trade it for the Pana 14-42 PZ lens; they're very similar, but very different feel. Not everyone likes both lenses. If you don't want to switch lenses, get a high-end point and shoot, like the LX-100. They're very comparable. But I like switching lenses.

I bought the first one for my wife and was so impressed with the capability of such a tiny, well thought out, and functional package that I bought the second one for myself. It is a camera that you can take with you when you would leave a larger camera home. It is not a total substitute for a larger camera, but the best camera is the one you have with you and the GM5 is the fun one that will go many places when a big camera would stay home. For its design purpose I give this fine little tool 5 stars, but for an only camera for serious work I would give it 4 stars.

To put it simple, I would love this camera if it has Panasonic's DFD technology. Everything else is what I expect from a MFT camera, small, fast, easy to use, great image quality. The only thing that puts me off is its AF, or more specifically AF for fast moving subjects under dim light. Don't get me wrong though, it is still very good, good enough for most situations. It's just for some of my specific needs, it is lacking a little bit. I would give it 5 star if its AF is at the same level as my LX100.

After carrying my Nikon D3200 (which is already smaller than a full-frame DSLR) plus telephoto lens on a trip, I decided I needed something smaller and lighter for travel. I didn't want to give up the flexibility I was used to with a DSLR and I wanted an eye-level viewfinder. Since I already had several four thirds lenses for my video camera, that format seemed the way to go. This camera is the perfect solution. It's very small and light, but with interchangeable lenses I'm not losing anything. 16 MP isn't as good as my Nikon, but certainly good enough for most purposes. I bought a leather hardshell case for it, and with the twist-out kit lens it has a kind of retro look and feel. The auto-focus is very fast and accurate and the auto-exposure seems spot-on as well. I'll keep my Nikon for when I need the extra megapixels, but for travel and fun, this is now my favorite camera.

I have cycled back and forth between DLSRs, mirrorless and point and shoots and still have some of each. I have gotten to the stage that I hate to carry heavy camera gear around. I took a chance on the GM5 and it was a good decision. This thing is TINY. With the kit lens it's about the same size as a quality point and shoot. It's very well made, responsive and takes excellent photos. I don't care about video, so that's not something I'd report on. Stills are excellent with good color, low noise, and decent dynamic range. Like I said, it's small, so it takes some getting used to. One nit about the lens. You have to twist it to extend the lens slightly for use. That motion is clunky to me and I just don't like it. Small thing, but there you go. Lens performs well for a kit lens and is very small and light. I also got the 35-100 lens made for this camera and it's excellent as well. That kit covers 24-200 effective - about 99% of what I need. I added the 20mm 1.7 lens and can do most anything with a very small 3-lens package. Highly recommended though I know they are discontinuing it.

I picked up this camera to be a take everywhere camera. I use a larger Olympus for my primary/work camera. Positives: small, sensor size, viewfinder, control, wifi and included lens. The viewfinder is great for sunny days when you cannot see the screen easily. The wifi is one of the best features. I can save directly to my phone or ipad as I take pictures. I can control the camera remotely and I can load to social media or e-mail on the go. The pictures are much better than cell phone pictures most small cameras. The camera also fits any Micro 4/3 lens. Overall great camera, Drawbacks: viewfinder size, battery life.

It holds the title as one of the smallest interchangeable-lens cameras, and that's a big selling point. But it's not just a great small camera, it's a great *camera*. It takes very good pictures, handles very well for its size, and has a huge selection of lenses - Micro 4/3 has the best mirrorless lens selection, and most of the 'classic' film-era lens mounts can be adapted. Its older brother the GM1 is slightly shorter; but the GM5 gives you much more than you'd think for the extra millimeters. While the changes are relatively few, their impact is great, fixing most of the GM1's weak points. The viewfinder is relatively small and cramped, but makes a huge difference in bright light. The 'real' control dial (as opposed to a spinner on the main directional pad) is easier to handle and gives more control. The revised control layout makes other buttons (such as the playback control) easier to hit - and moves the directional pad down far enough that I'm no longer hitting it accidentally all the time. I wish I'd known what a big difference these made earlier! The GM5's main drawbacks are price and the limits imposed by the size. While on the whole, the size is a big advantage - much easier to carry around, by itself or as a kit, and a delight to aim and shoot one-handed when paired with appropriate lenses - it does cause some problems. It's harder to get a secure hold on the body, and it can be difficult to handle with large/heavy lenses on it. There simply isn't the room for the kind of external controls you can have on something like the E-M10 or the G7. And when doing a lot of shooting in warm weather, it can get pretty hot.

Action pictures of my Newfoundland Dog. That it operates fast enough to catch the action of a moving dog. Menu is a little hard for me to get to using and to utilize all the features.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GM5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds red Digital Camera packs a full-featured interchangeable lens system into a sleek, compact magnesium alloy frame. It features a 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine image processor to produce high-resolution images and Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps. The camera introduces a high-resolution electronic viewfinder to the GM series, enabling confident shot composition in a variety of environments. An integrated hot shoe is featured for using the included external flash unit, as well as other optional flashes. Built-in wireless capabilities enable the GM5 to be remotely controlled from a linked mobile device and also supports image transfer to devices using the Panasonic Image App.
Unrivalled Creative Possibilities - An Expansive Choice of LUMIX G / LEICA DG Lens Options
An impressive array of compatible, high-quality GM5 and LEICA lens options complement the camera's compact, lightweight design, while also adding impressive flexibility to its imaging power. These options include a full lens lineup of interchangeable wide/standard/telephoto zooms, single focal length lenses and macro and fisheye lenses, each designed to provide the perfect lens for any shooting situation.
Capture Every Eye-Catching Moment
Built-in Live ViewFinder. 1,166k-dot Equivalent. Viewfinder concentration helps capture the best possible images. With the LVF designed into the GM5, capturing superior images is assured with 1,166k-dot equivalent resolution and approximately 100%* color reproduction. By more faithfully reproducing the primary colors, the GM5 LVF clearly displays beautiful, more true-to-life hues.
A Better Photo with Greater Clarity
The large, 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor enables both high-resolution and high-sensitivity image recording with far less noise. The Venus Engine in the GM5 features an advanced noise reduction system to consistently produce clearer, smoother image quality particularly when capturing subjects and scenery at night. This intelligent combination of Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine achieves maximum ISO25600.
Silent Mode
The innovative Silent Mode switches the shutter from mechanical in an instant and turns off all sound (AF, operation) while suppressing the AF assist lamp and flash with a single setting for special shooting opportunities.
Focus Peaking
Focus Peaking indicates the peak of focus in MF and AF+MF mode. This convenient function is also available in remote photo/video shooting when using a Smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi.
Eye Sensor AF
Image output between the Live View Finder and rear monitor is automatically switched by the eye sensor on the LVF. This same sensor also accommodates the Eye Sensor AF, which starts auto-focusing automatically by simply looking into the LVF to prevent missed shooting opportunities.
Fast, Accurate AF
By exchanging digital signals between camera and lens at a maximum of 240 fps, the smart Contrast AF system excels in both speed and accuracy. The GM5 also delivers high-speed burst shooting at 5.8 fps in 16-megapixel resolution and a maximum of 40 fps with the electronic shutter.
Low Light AF
The Low Light AF advantage makes it possible to focus on any subject more precisely in -4EV situations, such as shooting at night with no other light source than a starry sky.
Face/Eye Detection AF
In addition to a conventional Face Recognition AF, the Face/Eye Detection AF incorporated in the GM5 automatically adjusts the focus precisely on a subject's face or eye.
Pinpoint AF
This handy feature can incrementally set magnification from 3x to 10x in 0.1x steps. Ideal for precision focus setting on subject aspect, such as flowers or the pupil of an eye.
Share From Anywhere with Wi-Fi
The GM5 includes Wi-Fi connectivity for easy image sharing with the Panasonic Image App. By simply scanning the QR code displayed on the camera monitor with a Smartphone or tablet it's also easy to use a mobile device as a remote controller for the GM5.
