Questions & Answers

Shopper : is this a brand new or used one?THOMAS F : new great camera just the right size
Shopper : is the lens mount mental or plastic for the kit lens?DONALD J : The lens mount on the silver 14-42 kit lens that came with my silver GX7 is Plastic.ROGER O : the mount on the camera is metal, the mount on the lens appears to be plastic.KEVIN C : PlasticNEAL N : It's metal on the camera and plastic on the lens as far as I can tell. But I've had this for over a year and use various lenses, changing them often, and never had a hint of a problem. I'm very happy with it!CESAR P : Plastic!FIONAN O : The lens mount is most definitely PLASTIC! My brother has one of these cameras, too and it fell out of a cupboard last ween and the lens sheared off at the mount - while the lens is good, the build quality is poor.
Laurie L : I am looking for recommendations for a telephoto zoom lens for my Lumix DMC GX7?CHRIS C : Depending on zoom, I would recommend the Lumix 100-300mm. The image quality and OIS are very good. I really like the lens design over the Olympus 75-300mm because the barrel can be moved with your pinky (in and out) without ever twisting the zoom grip. The Olympus will have the wider 75mm and it will activate the GX-7's in body stabilization. I had the 75-300mm v1, and the 100-300mm has better image quality -- IMHO. I can't speak to version 2 since I have not used it. If you are new to telephotos, don't forget that atmosphere also effects photos. Even the sharpest lens will create average image quality photos if there is too much air between the subject and lens. Also, if you are willing to forget about auto focus, there are m4/3 adapters that work well non m4/3 lenses with focus peaking. This will open a whole bunch of inexpensive legacy glass that is available.TONY N : I use an Olympus M. Zuiko Pro 40-150 and it's awesome. You can additionally get a magnifying adapter for a larger range.FIONAN O : Hi there LS, Isn't the GX-7 a cracking camera? I bought the Lumix 42-200 which I find does the job. I don't use it a lot and find that you need to be careful of wobble/shake at the longer end but that's normal for telephotos. Regards, FionanDAVID F : If you want a single lens that can be used in a number of situations, the Lumix 14-140mm is a great choice. The Lumix 35-100 f2.8 is a one of the best lenses made and covers the mid-range. If you just want a long telephoto, there is the Lumix 100-300mm but it is not very sharp, particularly at the long end. I have all three of these lenses and find the 14-140mm to be the most versatile.JIM O : After researching the options available, I bought the Panasonic 100-300mm zoom lens. As I'm sure you know, this is equivalent to a 200-600 on a full frame camera. The lens is much smaller than an equivalent full frame lens, if there were such a beast. I have it mounted on my GX7 right now. I'm pleased with the IQ and also the fact that it has image stabilization (which can be turned off when using it with the GX7) allows me to use it with my G3 handheld. Bottom line, I'm pleased with my purchase. Hope this helps.

GET IT WHILE IT LASTS

I purchased this as a every day walk around camera. There is no way I could carry my DSLR everywhere, like I do this camera. Features, control and image quality of this, are excellent. I have no complaints what so ever. It goes with me everywhere, and I've been able to capture pictures that I would have missed other wise. OK, you're not going to get the IQ of a APS-C or FF DSLR...but you are going to take this, when the thought of lugging around the weight and bulk of a DSLR is just too much.

Back to (micro) 4/3

I got into digital with an Olympus e510, then a 620. Then I went to Samsung, now I'm back with micro 43 in the form of the GX7. I put it to the test taking some company pictures, which turned out to be a big hit. I could have done just as well with the Samsung NX20, but I got tired of waiting for Samsung to expand its lens collection. I find the difference between the GX7 and my APS-c system to be minimal. I'm sure I would have a different opinion if I were comparing it to the NX-1, but that's out of my range for now. I like the rangefinder styling more than I thought I would. The tilt screen is a loss for me over the articulated screen I used to have, but the touch screen takes some of the loss away. I may get the GX8 if it ever gets this cheep, but I really hope Panasonic creates a GX7 mark 2, closer in size to the GX7 with an articulated screen.

One of the Best

Solidly built and a solid performer. The results you get are somewhere between gratifying and stunning, and the MFT system with all its lenses and accessories is a big plus. The menus take some getting used to, but they're pretty logical. I downloaded the full advanced manual and put it on my iPad so I can study it conveniently. I'm very pleased with this DMC-GX7, so who not five stars? They left out the mic input, and I want to make some videos.

Great images anywhere

If I could give 4.5 I would but I'll rate this 5 as in my opinion this is a bit closer to 5 than 4. First the cons: a bit large, coming from the GF3 felt this difference, one is pocketable, the GX7 only for larger pockets, considering the idea of M4/3 this should be a target everytime. This camera eventually locks on me or take much longer than average time to perform usual operations like reviewing images. Not sure if is something specific about my camera or the GX7 in general, need to do some research... Due to the customization allowed for this camera (a positive for me) is hard to become familiarized with it. Just a matter of practice I know but coming from other friendlier cameras this can be relevant for some. Another one I can think of is the lack of 2nd curtain slow sync in the built-in flash, only slow sync. For those like me who uses the built-in as fill a lot this can be relevant. Last but not least I don't agree with manufacturer decision of intentionally crippling their cameras so it doesn't compete with higher-end models. The GX7 could offer more but it doesn't. I won't get into the details as there are plenty online out there - search for the hacks available for many Lumix models. But the pros are so many! It's my first Wi-fi enabled camera and the main reason I got the GX7, after you get the hang of it it's pretty easy to setup. I prefer using the Wi-fi direct conection as if I'm already connected to a Wi-fi network I won't loose this connection and keep online sharing whatever I want. NFC triggers the usual Wi-fi connection so I keep it deactivated but can be useful for some. Image quality is a step up from older generations like the GF3. I was already happy! The tiltable viewfinder is great contributing better than other cameras to the small form, eletronic shutter even greater, focus peaking allows for easy manual focus shots... The other main reason why I chose this model was the built-in image stabilization. Great! Online reviewers say it's not that great compared with Olympus 5-axis but this one satisfy me. Great purchase, extremely satisfied with it. Recommended!

Glad to be back with Panasonic

I love this camera. I was using the Olympus OMD and just could never get totally comfortable with the menu and the ergonomics. The GX7 is much more "user friendly" and has excellent IQ. A truly wonderful fun camera. It makes me look for every excuse to take pictures. I have been dealing with Adorama for many years, and as always the order was handled very nicely. I really would like to thank Al Lefko for making it such a pleasure to call Adorama.

The Future of Photography

The GX7 is an amazing camera. from its size to quality of lens, to the shear abilities of the camera itself . It is clearly not ment for novices in photography , if your looking for a point and shoot you really are barking up the wrong tree. This camera is at home in the hands of a Photo Pro as it is the avid Photo traveler. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars was i felt there were some things that Panasonic did not think through , i totally believe they will remedy those in the future. Non of which would impact the average user.

I'm Impressed

This camera focused quickly and easily. Takes great photos. Low light was super fast and without all the fuss of repetitive effort at getting a focus. Rarely need flash. It holds steady even dark nights photographing lights, hand held with little or no blur. I am quite amazed at how fast, slick, and quick this little camera is. It takes my Olympus lenses without a hitch. My only gripe is the buttons on the back. Sometimes I have to hold the camera one handed and the grip is fine but the palm of my hand inadvertently rests on the buttons and selects them messing up my shot since it will sometimes stop the shot for menu choices, etc. Very frustrating. Other than that, so far, so good and I'd rather have this little great camera than any other I've seen.

A fabulous little device!

A fabulous little device! I had read various reviews of this product before buying it and I found none of the negative comments to be valid. The tiltable viewfinder is perfect for macro shots of insects. The controls are well thought out, conveniently located, and often customizable. It would have been nice if the LCD screen had a greater range of positions, but for my purposes that's not an issue. I almost always use the EVF which is bright and clear. That it can be tilted is a stroke of genius! Image quality is excellent. It captures RAW + jpegs very quickly. It feels nice and solid and is easy to hold. All around, I'd give it the highest rating I could.

A professional lightweight camera

I travel a lot and having a light but professional camera is essential. Because of its size it is unobtrusive when photographing or shooting video in places where theft or other issues may arise. It does not look like an expensive camera but the photographs and videos are, in my estimation, equal to the "high end" DSLRs. The stabilization in the camera and lenses are great for capturing spontaneous events. I have yet to find any problems or issues with the functioning of the camera. I would encourage any level of photographer or videographer to purchase this camera.

bokeh isn't bad

This camera has decent bokeh. The attached pic is a flower taken with the stock lens. I also have the 25/1.4 Summilux lens and it is, obviously, even better. So don't be too worried if you hear that M4/3 cameras don't have bokeh. Maybe not as good as a monster DSLR, but good enough for most folks. I've had a few pics come in with poor exposure when using auto mode. However, most pics I shoot are in manual mode, and I have not been disappointed in the image quality of those pics. This is a great camera if you like shooting in manual mode. With a pancake lens, it will easily fit in a jacket pocket.

Valued addition

I've had this camera for about a month now. So far I haven't had any problems with it. The focus assist threw me off, until I read the manual. I prefer not to use it. I use multiple lenses on this camera (Leica-R, Nikon, Contax and Panasonic. There have been times that the images seem better than my GH3 camera's images. I use the GX7 as a second camera to my Panasonic GH3. It's almost like using the rangefinder Leicas. I really enjoy using this camera. I am a retired cameraman and this camera is much better than lugging around the big movie cameras. The most important thing is the excellent quality of the images.

Disappointed

The HDR function is nice, and the manual focus peaking comes in handy. However, the lens issues have been a serious problem. The diaphragm is not circular, but is an egg / trapezoid shape. Getting anything useful out of the Panasonic service department has been impossible. Panasonic needs to get a real service department and a quality control department. I could not recommend this camera to anyone else. I am extremely disappointed.

Culmination of m43 evolution

I upgraded to the GX7 from a Lumix DMC-G2 because of (1) improved sensor with less high ISO noise and more resolution, (2) low profile rangefinder form with EVF, (3) focus peaking, and (4) in body image stabilization. All of these represent substantial technical improvements over the G2, and the camera maintains the excellent handling and ergonomics that I enjoyed with the G2. I shoot a wide variety of subjects including portraits, macros, sports, landscapes and abstracts. I have used the GX7 for a week, and find that it exceeds my expectations, with great raw and jpg output, fast and accurate auto-focusing with all my native m43 Panasonic and Olympus lenses, and easy manual focusing with adapted legacy glass. The only I thing I miss from the G2 is the articulating LVF, but the tilting EVF and LVF more than make up for this. Its also a great looking camera and fun to use!

Excellent camera

I've had this camera for 24 hours now and have been using it non-stop. Let me start off by saying that this doesn't replace my GH3. The GH3 still has a few big advantages: much better batter life, more flexible LCD display, better video compression, and a much more solid and tough body. Having said that, this is a fantastic little camera. The new sensor does give me better stills, although I mainly use this for video. And the low light performance for both video and pictures is a bit of an improvement over the GH3. The LCD displace is much sharper and the focus peaking is great which is something I was really hoping they would add to the GH3. Overall, the images and video that come off this very compact camera are fantastic and I'm even impressed with the stock lens. The focusing is quite fast too.

Excellent camera

By Nima R.

And the low light performance for both video and pictures is a bit of...

Great images anywhere

By JAYME N.

Not sure if is something specific about my camera or the GX7 in general, need to do so...

PANASONIC DMC-GX7 SILVER KIT W/14-42MM

What should you expect out of an all-in-one creative camera package? We don’t have enough space to explain it to you, so we might as well show you: you should expect the PANASONIC DMC-GX7 SILVER KIT W/14-42MM, a veritable start-up kit for all of your creative photography impulses.

Product Highlights

  • Fast shutter speed with all of the LUMIX lenses from Panasonic ensure that your Panasonic DMC-GX7 will offer crisp, clear photographs that look above and beyond what any amateur can usually hope to accomplish.
  • Picture quality and video quality is second to none here, thanks to a 16.00-Megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor that will give you high sensitivity and resolution with the lowest amount of noise.
  • The tiltable viewfinder gives you more flexibility in image selection—and it doesn’t hurt that the 3” LCD screen is accurate with both colors and framing.

Want a camera that is less a camera and more paintbrush? Then the Panasonic DMC-GX7 should be your go-to creative outlet.

Learn about the PANASONIC DMC-GX7 SILVER KIT W/14-42MM

The start-up kit. It might work in some cases, and not in others: consider how effective a start-up magic kit might be as opposed to a start-up filmmaking kit. It’s easier to pull off a magic trick than a full-length movie. Despite whether you’re talking about art or science, it’s hard to see how one could simply “start-up” with one single purchase. And then you meet the PANASONIC DMC-GX7 SILVER KIT W/14-42MM, and it all starts to make sense.

The Panasonic DMC-GX7 is something special, in that it gives you everything you need to craft a more artistic style to your photography, whether you’re an amateur or a professional. Featuring everything from tilt-able live viewfinding to seamless 16MP photos and full HD video, this camera is less a camera than it is an “artistic photography start-up kit.” And while that phrase may not have made sense five minutes ago, it’s about to.

  • Viewfinding with a vengeance. Good viewfinding isn’t just about having a neat little screen that makes you look more professional. It’s about setting the stage for your artistic vision—in practical terms. The Panasonic DMC-GX7 offers it thanks to a LUMIX GX7 integrated with a 90-degree tilt-able live view finder. This gives you everything you need to gauge everything from framing to colors, thanks to the 100% color reproduction. Even the GX7 body only option would offer this stunning feature.
  • We at Adorama like creative control, which means that we really like the fact that Panasonic DMC-GX7 features some 22 effects, with creative panorama. This means you can do some amazing things with your camera that you might not have been able to do with other camera purchases in the past, whether it’s overlaying on the previous picture or capturing your image and instantly working on the panoramic filter effects. Spiffy.
  • Stabilization is key when you’re talking about a camera this precise. The in-camera stabilization works as a sort of built-in tripod, allowing you to build all sorts of images without having to worry about the quality of your hand stability. This gives you a more professional look instantly, and allows you some more freedom when it comes to shot selection.
  • Focus accuracy. A good autofocus—or even a manual focus—should be precise. That’s what you’ll get here, with the LUMIX GX7 incorporating focus peaking that shows each focus peak. This allows you to choose a magnification that best suits your artistic purposes.
  • Lenses, lenses, lenses. The LUMIX GX7 is very fast, with a maximum 1/8000 shutter speed. But every Panasonic LUMIX lens is designed for DSLM cameras and utilizing their digital nature to take high-speed shots. Feel free to go crazy on the lenses; we won’t stop you.

There’s no accounting for creativity, but if you want an instrument that fosters your artistic side, the PANASONIC DMC-GX7 SILVER KIT W/14-42MM is likely one of the best bets you’ll find here at Adorama. Note: compare it to the Panasonic DMC -fz47 Lumix for an even better sense of context.

Seamless 16MP Photos and Full HD Video 1080/60p
The LUMIX GX7 is a hybrid creative camera featuring full-HD 1920 x 1080/60p smooth, high quality video recording in AVCHD Progressive and MP4 format with stereo sound. Find Your Inner Artist Using Creative Control with 22 Effects and Creative Panorama
The popular Creative Control mode performs beautifully with 22 filter effects. You can even adjust the parameter of each filter effect to capture your true artistic vision. With the Creative Panorama function, you can shoot a horizontal/vertical panoramic image with consecutive shots by overlaying the previous picture. The multiple images are stitched together in the camera to create one single-wide image capturing your scene. After you've captured your image, you can get creative with one of the panoramic filter effects.
* For photos only, and some filters cannot be used in Creative Panorama mode

In-Camera Stabilization for Non-Stabilized Lenses
The LUMIX GX7 incorporates an optical image stabilizer-like technology directly in the camera body. This in-camera LUMIX MEGA O.I.S.* technology works as effectively with interchangeable non-optically stabilized lenses, to enjoy blur-free photography.
* Nearly as effective as the LUMIX MEGA O.I.S. in LUMIX DSLM lenses.

Focus Accuracy with Focus Peaking and Magnification Windows
For more precise control over focusing, the LUMIX GX7 incorporates Focus Peaking that shows the peak of focus. The precise area of focus is indicated while viewing the subject in live view. Pin-Point AF allows you to set magnification from 3x to 10x. The One-Shot AF sets the rough focus on the subject where you can then go back to MF to adjust precise focus.

Share Instantly with Wi-Fi and One-Touch Device Connection with NFC
With the Panasonic Image App, you can use a smartphone or tablet to control zoom, set focus, and shoot remote from a distance. The Wi-Fi setup is quick and easy and picture data can be transferred to a designated electronic device right after shooting. You can instantly upload and share your images on a Social Networking Service with your smartphone, and NFC (Near Field Communication) technology connects the camera with a smartphone or tablet by simply bringing them together.

Expand Your Creativity with a Full Line-Up of Lenses
The LUMIX GX7 achieves ultra fast performance with a maximum 1/8000 shutter speed. In-body optical image stabilizer-like image stabilization*, delivers exceptional performance when mounting non-stabilized lenses to the LUMIX GX7. Every Panasonic LUMIX lens is exclusively designed for DSLM cameras taking advantage of digital technologies such as high-precision, high-speed Contrast AF.
* Nearly as effective as the LUMIX MEGA O.I.S. in LUMIX DSLM lenses.

Discover Ultimate Picture Quality

Light Weight, Durable Magnesium Alloy Body
Dressed in a magnesium alloy, full die-cast frame, the LUMIX GX7 boasts high durability for any shooting situation. State-of-the-art imaging is delivered in a sophisticated, stylish metal body.
