Questions & Answers

Joe H : Can you set this camera up to have manual focus, such as shooting a home movie, with the screen at a set distance from the camera,??? thanks Joe.DAVID S : Not sure I understand what you are trying to do, but think you want to project a movie onto a screen and then photograph the image on the screen. I am not aware of a way to manually adjust the focus on the camera, but think you would be quite happy with the results the camera produces through its excellent autofocus system--it is very sharp even in low light.MICHAEL G : I don't think so. That, and its too-small-for-my-hands overall size are its biggest drawbacks for me (well, I also hate seeing that it now sells for less than half of what I paid for it right after it was introduced). Its 10x lens (20 times 0.5x) is its biggest asset.
Ken C : what is the shutter lag time?DAVID S : very short. not a problem.MICHAEL G : Like most pocket cameras, it's very slow. The time can be reduced by pre-setting the exposure by pushing the shutter button down halfway before taking the shot but it's no faster than earlier cameras I've had.KAREN P : I can't answer you, but I can say that of all the cameras I have owned under $400 the Lumix is the best out there. And I've tried all the top brands. I can't say enough about their quality.ANN R : The shutter lag time is longer than I would like it to be! I tried to take some photos of a baby recently and missed all the cute shots because of the delay. My apologies for not being more specific. The camera is decent, but not great.LESLIE S : I have only experienced a shutter lag time in low light; however, most times it's not a bother. What bothers me most was the tough screen when you try turn the touch screen off and it still gives off that beeping sound when you touch it. Really a nuisance.
Long T : Is the item brand new??ELLEN S : The camera I bought last was absolutely brand new with everything that should be in the box was in the box.Long T : Do you have the item in stock??Long T : Where is the camera manufactured??FREDERIC R : Yes it was brand new

Bought used with a D rating works perfectly and looks like new!

Delighted with the camera and the rapid service. Would certainly recommend Adorama to my friends.

Excellent pictures and large zoom

I use this camera for pictures of people, animals and scenery. The pictures are excellent with high megapixel count. The 20X zoom lets you take many close up pictures in nature and sports. The view screen could be made to be more visible in sunlight.

Good, but too complicated

Very highly rated and reviewed camera, but I would need to spend 4 or 5 hours learning all the settings. I am not that into photography. save the money and buy a simpler camera if you just want to take pictures.

A Truly Excellent Camera

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 may not have the longest telephoto lens currently available, but photos taken with this camera are crystal clear and have vibrant colors. I used my DMC-ZS30 during a recent trip to Hawaii and I am delighted with the quality of the photos I brought home. In addition to having a sharp Leica zoom lens, an excellent sensor, GPS, and a handy touch screen, the DMC-ZS30 is a solid, well balanced camera that to me feels much better in my hands than any of its competitors. I've purchased several Panasonic Lumix cameras for myself and family members, going back to the DMC-ZS7, and this product line has never disappointed me yet. In my opinion, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 is the best of the series, even better than its successor, the DMC-ZS40.

Quality Photos and Easy to Use

I take flower pictures and enter them for the State Garden Club Calendar. I take photos on my trips, and lots of photos of my grandchildren and my 6 pets. Also of my husband and our historic house and gardens. I spent weeks making my decision which camera to get. I want to be able to have an intelligent point and shoot function. I want to be able to do great panoramic shots. Close ups are important. Good inside pictures are important also. And I wanted to learn the more sophisticated functions. This lets me do everything I want. The panoramic function is especially easy and looks professional. The battery life is about the same as other cameras or maybe a tad better. It's a nice size to put in my small purse. It says it goes out to 40x but I haven't gotten to that point in the manual yet. The only negative thing, and it is very negative to me anyway, is that there is no hard copy manual. This is the only issue I find with this product. I love Lumix cameras. I had one some years ago and it was a workhorse. If it hadn't been left out in the rain I wouldn't have gotten another camera. As it was, I got a Cookpix and was unhappy with it so gave that to my grandson and got this Lumix. It is well worth the price. I am very pleased except for the manual which has to be read on the computer.

Great jack-of-all-trades camera

I first saw the new generation of Lumix cameras last month while I was on tour and was impressed with the panorama shots, HDR, and other capabilities so I decided to buy one and try it out as my backup or general purpose camera. The camera's size and weight are very convenient. While not as small as my Canon A2200, it fits easily in a shirt or pants pocket with a nice flat profile. The battery appears fully adequate for 300 or so shots -- frankly, I've never run it below about 60% charge. The display screen is wonderfully large and you can choose between maximum and minimum information displayed. The 20x optical zoom provides a fantastic range of options. The zoom range can make it tough to get a quick picture sized exactly as you wanted but the 18 MP lets you err on the zoomed out side and crop as you like later. The camera recharges its battery via a proprietary USB cord. This is both good and bad. On the good side, this means I can recharge the camera virtually at will using any available USB socket, including one of the Li-Ion power packs I frequently carry. On the downside, you have to buy another charger if you want to recharge a battery while using the spare and I'm not sure about the availability or price of replacement cords. I would be much happier if the camera used a standard microUSB cord for this function. The internal GPS unit does a great job at getting your location and tagging the pictures while keeping the camera's time tags synced and it doesn't burn up the battery like other GPS units I've used. The flash works great at short ranges but of course is limited at distances greater than about 15 feet. The mode dial is easy-to-use but not entirely intuitive at first and slips easily into a new mode (e.g., Manual) even if not intended. So far as I can tell, the camera uses only JPEG and MP4 formats. This is fine for most users' needs but you should be aware of that before buying it. I would still stick with my DSLR for "good" pictures but this is a great lightweight and relatively small camera for all-purpose use or to keep as a backup to your DSLR.

Fantastic Point and Shoot

I use this camera to augment my DSLR and to use in places where I can't take my larger camera. I didn't realize that this camera has the myriad of capabilities and functions that it has. Beside that it takes excellent pictures. I haven't found any drawbacks so far. It's a great little camera.

A great camera for the price

I first saw this camera on a trip in the Canadian rockies this summer. The person using it was taking some great distance photos. Also noted that the camera was capturing the true colors in a very user-friendly format. I would caution you to the type of screen protector you use. I got advice from an Adorama rep and was mis-guided.

Lot of features for the price

We needed a new camera and wanted a higher zoom level that's what brought this camera to our attention. We have only had it a short time and still learning all the features but for a point and shoot it deliveries very high quality sharp pictures. The zoom is great for all the sporting events our grandkids are in. We can get very close up action shots. We are just non technical users so I can't give you any technical insight but this is an easy camera to use and comes with great features. We are very happy with our purchase.

Great point and shoot

My wife uses this camera for travel and for business shoots of her art work. Power up is very fast, no waiting for image storage, great zoom range. Macro mode works well for art work. WIFI was easy to set up. Down-sizing of images at the camera before uploading is a huge bonus. Strap should mount to both sides of camera instead of the lame wrist strap.

Remarkable camera

I use this mostly for travel, but also for shooting flowers and gardens. It is very portable so is always with me. It replaced my Leica V-Lux 30 and seems at least as good but nearly half the price. Very sharp photos and I love the super telephoto results that let me examine things I can barely see with my eyes. An amazing camera, now with wifi!

Camera works great!

I bought this camera to replace a similar model (zs7)used when I needed a small super zoom travel camera. It works great with many new features. To correct a slight clipping of the highlights in some pictures I set the exposure lower by 2/3 stop. Adorama had the best price.

Setting up connection to My network fail

Even with a phone call to support, I have been unable to get the camera to work fully with my Apple Wifi. The iPhone app to control the camera works perectly so I know the wifi is OK but it won't let me sign in to the network for other function. Otherwise the camera is great.

Amazing Camera

I bought the white one from Adorama a month ago. It is my first point and shoot and I am very happy with this camera. I just got back from a trip to New Orleans and the camera took amazing photos in color, black and white, sepia, and so on. I love the Wi-Fi function and I can view the photos on my iPad when connected wirelessly. I am still trying to figure out how I can wi-fi the photos to my printer. I did not take any photos at night, so I cannot report on how well it performs in low light. When on GPS or Wi-Fi mode it does use up a lot of battery. It fits nicely in my pocket. I would highly recommend this camera!

Remarkable camera

By Dave S.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 18.1MP Digital Camera (Black) is a versatile, high-quality compact camera with a 20x optical zoom lens, manual exposure control, Wi-Fi connectivity and touch-control LCD screen. Its 18.1MP MOS sensor and new Venus Engine image processor provide low-noise images, accurate colors and fast performance and its 20x optical zoom lens stretches from ultra wide-angle to super-telephoto lengths for a wide range of shooting applications. This Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens offers the 35mm equivalent focal length of a 24-480mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.3 at the wide-angle end. This aperture is wide enough to capture low light action and the camera's Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization will compensate for camera shake to provide clear photos and videos when shooting at the telephoto lengths that this lens offers. If you need to reach a bit further, a 40x Intelligent Digital Zoom feature is also available. Aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion lens elements and Nano Surface Coating minimize aberrations and flaring for sharply rendered images.

Full HD 1080p video recording with built-in stereo sound is supported by the ZS30 and a dedicated one-touch button will take you instantly from photo mode to video. You can also shoot still images while recording a video without cutting the video. Slow- and fast-motion video and multiple lower resolution recording is also possible and 5-Axis Correction minimizes blurring across the entire shooting range. A 3.0" 920k-dot Touch-control LCD screen is provided for composition and playback. You can control autofocus, zoom, shutter and playback with simple gestures on the touch-screen. It also features an auto level gauge to keep your images straight.

The DMC-ZS30 has built-in Wi-Fi and by downloading the Panasonic Image App to your iOS or Android smart phone or tablet, you can wirelessly send your shots to your device for instant sharing and storage. The App also allows you to use your device as a remote control for shooting and viewing photos and HD video. NFC (Near Field Communication) allows you to connect camera to phone with just a touch and sharing images with a friend's phone is just as easy. Direct upload to social networking sites, auto transfer and wireless TV playback are all possible with the Image App. The camera also has built-in GPS with geo-tagging, mapping and compass functions.

The ZS30 offers full resolution burst shooting of 10 frames per second and its Intelligent Auto mode allows the camera to set the optimal adjustments while you compose and shoot. If you want your settings to be even more specific, 18 individual photo Scene Modes, such as Panorama, Sunset or Night Portrait, offer predefined settings that correspond to the scene you are shooting. High Dynamic Range is included to capture balanced shots of scenes that contain both dark shadows and bright areas. Four photo aspect ratios in multiple resolutions are available (4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and square-shaped 1:1) and manual exposure control is supported so you can adjust aperture and shutter speed to create images exactly the way you envision.

For expressive imaging, Creative Control and Creative Retouch allow you to add 14 artistic effects before or after you shoot, for example Retro look, Toy Effect or One Point Color. Creative Panorama offers the same effects on panorama images and Creative Control is also supported in video mode.

The DMC-ZS30 is conveniently powered by both a conventional AC adapter and via the USB input, so you can use your computer to charge your camera. PHOTOfunSTUDIO 9.0 image management software is included with your purchase.
