Panasonic DMW-MA2M Mount Adapter to Mount Leica M Lenses on the Lumix G Series Micro 4/3 Mount System Cameras

I purchased this to mount my Leica M lenses on the GX8. So OK, it's well made and holds the lenses in place. Even adjusting for the 43 format, An electronic viewfinder is not optimal for focusing/using Leica range finder glass. Stopping down the aperture necessarily darkens the viewfinder, so it's a bit of a dance between focusing and aperture, unless you're choosing to shoot in a kind of aperture-priority mode that allows you to see to focus. It also was disappointing that for the price Panasonic didn't provide even a storage bag for this premium adapter. There are far cheaper options, so I wonder if spending the Panasonic money was really worth it.

Panasonic is a technical partner with Leica, so it's no surprise this adapter marries up perfectly with Leica M lenses. In my opinion, Leica M glass is the best on the market, but it doesn't work so well on full-frame mirrorless cameras for focal lengths wider than 50mm. Corner smearing and color shifting can be a problem. Fortunately, MFT crops out a lot of these issues, and Leica glass can outresolve a typical MFT sensor even though a 16 MP MFT sensor is equivalent to a full-frame 64 MP sensor in terms of pixel density. The fit and finish of the item is worthy of Leica glass (though not quite as exquisite), with details like the knurling matching the knurling for modern Leica lenses. I am sure the baffling is there for a reason, because the images that come out of the combination of my Olympus EM-5 Mark II and my Leica 50mm Summarit 2.4 are stunning.

I use heritage Leitz lenses, both Thread Mount (with Leitz TM>M adpater) and Leica M directly on this adapter. Beautifully made, no slop in the connections.

Bought this to enable the use of Rangefinder Lenses on Micro 4/3 cameras, specifically for a 15mm Voightlander Ultra Wide which has great depth of field while on M4/3 the sensor angle of view is halved.

After reading bad reviews of similar (cheaper) products that didn't couple perfectly with Leica M lenses, I decided to go for this Panasonic adapter for the simple reason that I knew that they have a partnership with Leica, meaning they could produce the best adapter with colaboration directly form Leica. I'm glad I did because this adapter works perfectly with all my Leica M lenses. Don't waste your money on inferior adapters, this is the one. One other brand is more expensive (and good), but I doubt that it's better built than this one.
